  • Adventure to Bidnija which is a rural hamlet between Mosta, St. Paul's Bay and Mġarr. It is located in the northern region, the second least populated habitable zone on the Maltese islands , This small village is where Journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed this with a powerful car bomb, the blast that left her vehicle in several pieces !!

Malta is so lovely in the countryside before the strong sun burns it all away. A really nice video thank you Steve. Enjoyed the view from the vehicle too, nice and steady. I really appreciate you giving up your free time and energy you put in to making these videos for no financial gain. Whatever type of video you want to try putting up, will get support from me. Maltese people all over the world, who can't get back to the islands, must love the things you show, memories of home, without all the modern concrete that the other videos of Malta concentrate on. Thanks again.

Hi Steve, thanks for your running commentary as I am showing it to my dad, which has bought many memories. Dad migranted to Australia in 1954 and I was only 9mths old. Seeing my dad so emotional, I think he left his heart there, but we have had a good life here. Stay safe.. Jack and Mary South Australia

My grandad was in the Police in Malta, he retired in 1964 but I remember him talking about the Mafia when I was a teenager in the 1970's when he lived in Msida and we still lived in Gzira. He said the Mafia restricted itself mainly to Valetta, and ran all the bars in the Gut. He said the British Navy and Maltese Government just turned a blind eye unless they seriously injured a sailor or soldier. He said they had links to the Italian Mafia and even hinted about how the British intelligence exploited the links during WWII.
Anyway, I love your videos. I used to be in the Scouts and we hiked all over Malta. Some of the walks you do are where we walked in the 1970's. I moved to the UK in 1981 and go back to Malta very often.
You go to a lot of places that I'm attached to because of family and heritage. My grandmother's family names are Attard and Montefiore, my grandfather always said he was British, and probably his grandfather was but he was feom Valetta. So obviously I am very interested in your walks around Rabat, Mdina, l-imtarfa, Valetta and the Three Cities.
You are making me seriously think about retiring to Malta. Thank you.

Good evening from the UK Steve.
Really enjoyed the views. Yes, the food orientated videos sound fantastic. I've been telling my partner all about the local Maltese cuisine. You must convince her that its much nicer than UK food, especially the bacon. I also brought home some bread and Pear Nectar (which you cant get in the UK) from my last trip away.
Hope to get back there soon once all this Virus business blows over. Stay safe Steve

Thanks for another great video. Another area to add to my list of places to go in Malta when I next visit! Thanks also for mentioning Daphne Caruana Galizia. I know you don't want to go into Politics, but I think she was a great hero of Malta, she told the truth, and paid the ultimate price. I hope that one day they will put a statue or permanent memorial of her in Valletta. Keep up with these videos as in these days of Lockdown (in Britain) I can now go on a virtual walk around Malta, through the eyes of your camera, to cheer me up. Keep Safe! Mark

Loved the video, wasn't in that area before and I heard alot about the journalist and it was nice to see where she was killed. May she rest in peace. Yes would love to see cooking and Maltese food. On your videos if u see wild flowers, I love a close up of them, as you passed a lovely pink ones today. My question for you is "How did you learn the Maltese language and the pronunciations of places? Love the music at the end of your videos. What is your name. I'm jealous of u in your lovely walks in these times, that is what I miss now here in Kerry is getting into my car and exploring the country side. Have a great weekend. Until we meet again. Despite the tragic events in the recent past, Bidnija came over really well. I was surprised at the size of the village, larger than I had imagined. You mentioned once again those sticks to fend the dogs off - that would really worry me !! By the way is it possible those hides where you mention clay pigeon shooting could be hides for the bird hunters ? I am aware the bird hunting lobby has a lot of support on the island.

In the pocket springs to mind ?? getting back to Bidnija its very beautiful and i only shown you a little part the road to Mgarr and really nice and there are olive trees still have fruit nearly 2000 years old up there !! Ct ruts , and some roman remains, and more beautiful views only so much can put in a 20/min video !!

    • @EnglishmaninMalta

Maltese bread is so hard to make good !!...Malta has been inhabited from around 5900 BC ...structures, which date back to 3600 BC.... Byzantine rule..invaded by the Aghlabids in AD 870..second millennium by settlers from Arab-ruled Sicily..Then the Normans...The islands were part of the Kingdom of Sicily until 1530, and were briefly controlled by the Capetian House of Anjou..A big change in the islands when Charles V of Spain gave the Maltese islands to the Order of Knights of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in perpetual lease. The French under Napoleon took hold of the Maltese islands in 1798 and then finally The British until independence 1964 then joined European Union in 2004 ....

Sounds like you talking about Maltese Bragioli (Beef Olives) This dish can be made with not the best cut of meat because it is braised in wine for a long time. many ways to do it, a simple one is ..Beat the slices of meat with a mallet so they are nice and thin. In a bowl, add your bread crumbs, chopped bacon, parsley, and a little salt and pepper. This is your stuffing. Place a heaping tablespoon of the stuffing onto a slice of the beef and spread it out along with a couple slices of hard boiled egg., roll and cook in sauce
