  • Not all bandsets shoot all ammo well, and each bandset will have a range of ammo it will shoot well depending on the active band length.
    How do you know you've got the right match of bands to ammo?

    AMMO WEIGHT TO BAND WIDTH METRIC CONVERSION
    1.1g - 2.1g = 12.7mm - 15.9mm
    3.6g = 19.1mm

      D*2=(band width in millimetres)

      @@simpleshot hi nathan nathan here.
      Been experimenting this week using your advice.
      As of the last week. Ive been high grade medical latex shooter for 24 yrs.
      Its not that im pig headed its just i didnt know fkatbands still existed?
      It was a thing old people used because thats what tires were made of.
      Ive hunted rabbits with 10mm tubes x2 all my life.
      I recently stole ideas from archery cams to make a 4x 10 mm(38) tubes with active licking cams for release on shooting .
      Last week i converted my whole system to handle 4x 1mm bands.
      For marbles. Its horifyingly fast!!
      Then made a frame for 2x1mm flatbands(tapered) and was too powerfull fir the ammo.
      So swallowed my pride and used a girly woosie 0.6mm band.
      And it was accuracy all over!!!!
      So flats; rekease energy faster than tubes. Internal pressure in tubes is not predictable. Simple!
      Thanks nathan youv made a convert.

    I'm wondering if this guide works for lead ammo or if you need to up/ downsize to adjust for the greater density/ weight per diameter? and also what size ball do you recommend (I'm thinking .40 or .45 cal would be the best overall, but I have .50 cal balls and molds)

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for the question. You will want to go with a heavier bandset as the lead does weigh more. Generally, it is one size up from what band would be used for the same size steel. For example, if you shoot 3/8" size lead (.36 cal), you will want to use the bands for 7/16" Steel Ammo and not the bands for the 3/8" Steel Ammo.

      The most important thing is the tuning (over the taper). You can squeeze some performance out with the taper, but your best bet is experimentation! Try a few and see what works best for you. There are faster latex options over TBG for sure, so you might want to look at our SimpleShot Black or Precise latex, for example. You'll get longer band life in general with a straight cut, and a faster latex will more than compensate for the taper.

      It's not the topic of the video, but your question is answered here: czcams.com/video/kS-4jX7heBo/video.html
      Nutshell version: there's a range of energy that any bandset can create. There's also an amount of energy that the ammo can receive.
      You want to strike a balance here or you'll have wasted energy (returning to your hand - ouch - if shooting OTT) if your bands are converting more energy than the ammo can receive. Or if the bands are creating less energy than the ammo has capacity for (ammo too large, for example), you'll have not enough energy in the ammo and a weak shot.

    • @usernamemykel
      @usernamemykel Před 6 lety

      "Not the topic of the video"? The topic of the video is "Matching Bands to Ammo" , and in that topic one should find, besides the relationship of bands to ammo DIAMETER, also the relation of bands to ammo WEIGHT.
      Perhaps the topic should have been more specific "Matching Bands to Ammo Diameter".
      I do appreciate the quick reply, and will check the link for which I am thankful .
      THWACK!

    • @usernamemykel
      @usernamemykel Před 6 lety

      Nathan, the link you provided has to do with OTT handslap. It doesn't address the relationship of different weight ammo to the band selection for a TTF shooter.
      Have you any data on that relationship?
      Best2u,
      THWACK!

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 6 lety

      Right. The topic was handslap, but the idea of matching ammo was covered in there (around the 1 minute mark). Handslap is a result of mismatched energies.
      We say weight is the important issue, not diameter. A 1 inch steel ball's energy capacity is much different from a 1 inch marble!
      The more weight (the ammo), the more energy the ammo can handle. So your heavier ammo will absorb the energy a heavier bandset will supply. Lighter ammo will be overpowered by the same band.
      This relationship is the same whether shooting TTF or OTT.
      We will put this in our list of new videos to shoot. Thanks!

      +Lenley Melvin Try 1/4" wide strips of theraband gold or 1/2" strips of theraband blue. Also, the extra small diameter dipped latex tubing we stock is excellent for .177 bb's.

      +Lenley Melvin We just finished up a run of those bands and they are now back in stock and ready to go. Sorry they weren't ready when you attempted prior.

    I noticed that the rule of thumb here is "Band Size = Ammo size x 2". Might be useful if you need to carry this info around in your head.
    Thanks for all the incredibly useful videos, and my beloved Axiom Ocularis.

    You need to learn the metric system. I dont think in inch, and the rest of europe is the same.
    Didnt get a bit of useful info here

      We much prefer the metric system. It's far superior for sure. But here, we don't use it at all, so sometimes we forget to add in the metric measurements.
      If you do a google search for "convert inch to metric" or any similar term, you'll find a ton of converters. Then this will be useful! :)
