      In 2022 Gamekeeper John what's your opinion of what you believe are the most powerful bands on the market I understand people like dif things IE smoothness of pull or some may like bands that suddenly stop when nearing max pull etc with no give some like smooth pull others like hard pull I get that but you been doing this for years so I know lots of your old videos was with tbg but as I said in other comment in 2022 do you still stay with tbg or do you like other make of bands also such as gzk green or other colour or precise or snipersling or other Chinese bands etc I am going to ask all the know CZcams experts to understand what suits them and why so I get an awesome understanding from knowledgeable sources .

    Just come across your channel great content subscribed.I have just brought some 0.72 gzk. I am using 12mm lead I usually shoot double 25mm to 20mm. Would you still recommend that taper with doubles for this band ?

    • @CatapultCarnage
      @CatapultCarnage  Před 5 lety +3

      Thanks James glad you like it pal
      No I would recommend a 0.9mm or a 1mm thick band for a single taper with 12mm but you'd get away with narrower double tapers with the 0.72 or 0.76 bands. It's a long time since I've shot 12mm lead and I've not tried it with these "higher preformance" bands.
      One thing is for sure they wont disappoint. I suggest buying a couple of meters of a few different thicknesses to see what you prefer.

      O.60mm for 30 to 20 but its unnecessary you can use a thicker band with a narrower taper which is easier to aim down and you'll get more bad sets for your roll of elastic

    what is the best thickness for hunting, in your opinion?

    • @christopherrowley7506
      @christopherrowley7506 Před rokem +2

      if you are shooting 11mm steel, which is a good round for hunting, then maybe something like .8mm thick. But there's a lot of opinions out there. A lot of people like really thick bands (1.0mm is popular among us pleebs), but a lot of the competition guys prefer as thin as possible to still get performance. The heaviness of your band isn't just a function of how thick it is but also on how wide you cut your bands and what your taper is. You just got to experiment and fine tune. If you are running 3/4in wide and it's feeling anemic, you can try cutting wider. If you are already at 1in, then you gotta step up in thickness. On the other hand if your bands are feeling whipy (feels similar to dry firing) or you're getting hand slap, then your bands are probably too heavy and you should cut narrower or go down in thickness.
      And that's not even bringing up the different brands and the colors of each brand. GZK, SimpleShot, Snipersling, and Precision make good bands. Probably some more out there. But a lot of that is nuance, truth be told, and again something you can experiment with and find something you like.

    Have you ever tried the GZK Black bands for cold weather? If you have I would like to hear your thoughts. Up in Canada this time of year most slingshot bands shoot like a wet noodle in winter. I'm hoping they will make a difference.

    • @AdventureTimeOutdoors
      @AdventureTimeOutdoors Před 4 lety

      @Ian I got to test my bands in -20 weather this winter and you are right not much difference. I live north of Montreal Canada. You are right you live in a colder spot than I but we do get a few nasty weeks of -30 + days in our winter. I would like to test my bands on a chrony I am curious what I get with my setup. I have 1mm gzk bands too but I shoot 3/8 and 5/16 steel balls and got a wicked hand slap. I ended up going down to .70,
      .66 and .62 and they shoot really well with that ammo size.

    • @AdventureTimeOutdoors
      @AdventureTimeOutdoors Před 4 lety

      @Ian I tried TBG......total junk compared to GZK

    • @AdventureTimeOutdoors
      @AdventureTimeOutdoors Před 4 lety

      @Ian I use GZK orange .62 with a 23mm-15mm and I tie them to the pouch with cristal string! I use the ammo keeper pouches (the ones that have the 3 holes to center and hold the ball). I shot 800 plus shots though the bands before they failed. So I shot a torture test video but only got 430 shots. I think I tied the string too tight on the second bands. I have half the footage but I cant seem to upload the rest to my phone for editing. So I will re shoot the video. When I tie my bands I dont tune them to the max stretch I always give them an extra 2cm. That made a big difference in longevity for me with only a little change in power it seems. That's my eye and feel not chrony. I will redo that video on my other channel (ATO) but this time I will test 3 different pouch tieing methods and see which one lasts longest. I will do it like that because 95% of my bands fail at or near the pouch. That band taper works great for me with no hand slap even with 5/16 balls and they shoot like lazer beams.

    • @CatapultCarnage
      @CatapultCarnage  Před 4 lety

      I have used the black but I prefer the green bands to be honest. I actually like black gzk the least of the three colours. I've probably never shot a catapult in the temperatures you guys have but I think I'd probably use a green .66 or .72 with 8mm steel
      The thicker bands do withstand cold better. 72 bands cut at 18-12 or 19-11 something like that. I use 8mm steel because I am a competitive target shooter and I have the skill to take headshots at my practiced ranges. 8mm steels biggest downfall is it cant be shot through any kind of brush, it will deflect too easy, that said I can be much more accurate than if I was to use say 11 or 12mm. Its all horses for courses. My setup works for the way I shoot and the land I hunt (most of the time). I don't know if you guys watched Zach Fowler's 30 Survival challenge in Canada but he had issues with ground squirrels moving before the shot reached them, shooting full butterfly too I can be fairly certain that I wouldn't have had that issue with my setup
      I've recently been using a .6 band cut at 24 to 12 mm with 8mm steel and it is without question the fastest shot I've ever fired from a slingshot, bandlife aint great but my god its impressive how fast it is

    • @ATOMark
      @ATOMark Před 4 lety +1

      @@CatapultCarnage I just picked up the .66 green and orange for my 3/8 ammo. I really like the orange but wanted to see the difference between the orange and green.
      I only switched to 5/16 ammo to work on my release. Shooting the smaller ammo really made me focus on my pouch hand and it really smoothed things out for me. To be honest I think the orange out performed the black in the cold and now that it is warming up the orange kills it.
      What difference have you seen between the green and orange? I find all gzk products are excellent, he is an awesome dude too.
