Please do “Too Much Time on My Hands” Styx played a concert at my high school in 1974... their album came out and they were getting massive air play but still honored their booking at the school. Cool dudes!❤ Back then I would say we had a great choice in local bands...Styx, Chicago, REO Speedwagon.
Tommy Shaw kills it on this!! Styx was an absolutely amazing band back in the 70’s and 80’s but got a bad rap from critics when they came out with Mr. Roboto. They really are incredible!
I have listened to Styx since 1984. My friend Nicky was jamming to them. Great band. Paradise Theater has to be heard straight through. Peace.
As a Styx fan since 1976, it's nice to see them getting respect these days. They were once considered (by many hard core rockers) a fluff, commercial, corporate type band. But man, do they kick ass. Styx was also my fist ever concert.
Mine too. Might have been in '78 at the Spectrum. 😥
They were my first concert as well.
I've been a fan since I was 10, so almost and I'm now 58
Fan since the 70s. I've seen them multiple times live. One of the best live shows IMHO
My sister gave me her The Grand Illusion album (vinyl) when I was 12 years old ('82). I *loved* it, and still do to this day. I think it's a masterpiece, easily my favourite Styx album, and they've put out quite a few great albums.
It's one of those songs 🎵 that grabs you and smacks you in the back of the head & from there it bangs the rest of the song!!!
Deep rabbit hole...keyboardist Dennis DeYoung wrote most of the power ballads and guitarist Tommy Shaw wrote most of the heavier bangers...Sweet Madame Blue, Too Must Time on My Hands, Rockin the Paradise, Babe, Lady, Snowblind, Blue Collar Man, Rockin the Paradise, Fooling Yourself, Grand Illusion...
in a show called “Supernatural “ very powerful episode.. anyways, they finish it with this song .
You've heard Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw sing their signature Styx songs. Time to give JY his turn at bat. "Miss America" is an absolute banger!🔥🗽🔥
I always got the impression that Tommy did this song to have fun, but to me, his signature song is Blue Collar Man.
@@jameshelm2847 i would go with Crystal Ball as his signature. My personal favorite is Man in the Wilderness; which is widely considered part 2 to Crystal Ball.
Snowblind would also work
I've been a fan since 1979. Their vocal harmonies are legendary!
This is my fave Tommy Shaw song. His bocals are awesome. JY's guitar solo is hot 🎸🎸🎸
STYX has been one of my favorite bands since i was 14 years old back in the late 70's. Their albums Equinox and Grand Illusion are unparalleled. Ive seen them in concert 4 times and they never disappoint!
I've been a fan since 1976! Their poster from the Grand Illusion album hung on my wall throughout High School and I was absolutely in love with Tommy Shaw. (Along with many others. Hey. I was a teenage girl. Lol) Also, the Grand Illusion Tour was my very first concert. Somewhere along the way I lost that poster and not that long ago I bought an album off of eBay so I could have the poster in it. Lol. 🤷🏻♀️ As you may guess, I am a huge fan!
Come to a Steelers game in Pittsburgh - you'll definitely hear this!
We used to play this album over and over. Lots of great songs from Styx!
Been listening to them since the late 70s, finally saw them live recently in the Quad Cities, sadly missing a few original members, but still a great show. Mr. Roboto is definitely worth checking out.
A friend turned me onto Serpent is Rising album...I instantly fell in love with their sound! Seen them 3 times, always a pleasure!❤Styx
Tommy Shaw also played in Damn Yankees with Ted Nugent and Jack Blades of Night Ranger. Saw them in concert back in late 80's early 90's.
I became a Styx fan because of Tommy Shaw. Great great rock musician. This song if truly tops.
Styx was emblematic of my high school years. Saw them at least 3 times.
I saw the Paradise Theater tour in high school. The crowd went insane to this song.
First time I saw Styx was in 82, I've seen them 8 times since. "Babe" was their first #1 hit song(1979) sung by keyboardist and OG member Dennis DeYoung. One of my favs is Too much time on my hands.
Been loving Styx since I was in junior high school. I’m 59 now
Also check out Damn Yankees. Tommy Shaw was part of that group
Fan as long as I can remember. First saw them on the Kilroy Was Here tour. Last saw them five years ago.
Paid $8.25 for a ticket in 1978 at the Greenville Memorial Auditorium SC when the album- pieces of eight came out. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. When Dennis sung Lady he rose about 30 ft in the air with a white piano. Unbelievable!😮
Learned of this song from the show Supernatural! Great 15 season series and amazing soundtrack as well!!!
The Pittsburgh Steelers use this song during the game to get the crowd going
Paradise theater was my first album i bought in 1982. Been a fan ever since.
STYX for almost 50 years Renegade is one of the best!
Styx has been my favorite band since 1977 listening to "Fooling Yourself" in a friend's car on 8-track tape of the album "The Grand Illusion" :) We wore that out!
You like surprises - good. With 3 leadsingers/songwriters (Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw/John Curulewski, James "JY" Young) Styx has a wide variety of song styles with common characteristics of surprise/originality, 3-part harmonies, and mostly/eventually uplifting/hopeful messages.
Speaking of uplifting, another Tommy Shaw song is the aforementioned
"Fooling Yourself"(Album: czcams.com/video/apTy_Wez4V4/video.html, Live: czcams.com/video/brDDzKOcvPA/video.html ).
For a James "JY" Young song I'll suggest an early years song "Young Man" (or "Miss America", "Snowblind").
For a John Curulewski song I'll suggest "A Day".
Also checkout the list of songs I put in the comments of your reaction to "Come Sail Away".
Their best stuff came from collaboration where each brought something.
One of my favorites from Styx!
also.. check out Damn Yankees ( tommy shaw, jack blades , Tedd nugget and some random drummer.. had brilliant album)
"Come Again", "High Enough", "Where You Goin’ Now", "Silence is Broken".
Michael Cartellone was the drummer, and he's worked and toured with many well-known artists; and he's the current drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd(since 1999).
Also, Damn Yankees made 2 albums.
GREAT song!! Been a Styx fan since 1974 when my older brother brought the 45 single Lady & I stole it from him. Styx Equinox is the first album I ever bought with my own money and I wore out Side 2 of that album. I had to purchase another Equinox album about a year or so later. It will always be my favorite album of all time. I am hoping you will someday review & play Suite Madame Blue off the Equinox album. It's my favorite all time Styx song . If you do review this epic track please play the prelude first ( Prelude 12) it leads perfectly into Suite Madame Blue. After Equinox, I purchased Styx's The Grand Illusion album (1977) and then Pieces Of Eight album (1978). They are two Styx's greatest albums EVER. After Pieces Of Eight I then went back and purchased Styx's Crystal Ball (1976) album. Tommy Shaw who sings lead on Renegade made his Styx debut on the Crystal Ball album. Tommy still fronts Styx, and they are still going strong today and they just recently released an album in 2021 Crash Of The Crown. The album is GREAT as was their release before that The Mission (2018). I own every album in the Styx catalog. Thanks so much for playing and reviewing Renegade.
Graduated in 1974. One of my favorite bands. Mr. Roboto was one of the songs broke the band up. The rest of the band thought Dennis DeYoung was wanting them to go too showtune. They wanted Rock.
Fan since teens and singer right here, and song, is why.
Styx was huge back in the day. They still tour today.
What band blows up, tours the world, breaks apart/stays together, continues touring for decades...stops in your hometown of 1000 and misses it?!?! 😳😆😭
Moi!!🤦♀️
I'll not discuss that song you mentioned...that was the end for me. 🤨
Try "Blue Collar Man," "Foolin Yourself" or "Crystal Ball" you may like. ❤👍🏽
Dude! Great reaction and thank you. You were asking...I'm 52 so this band has been an integral part of my youth. As a matter of fact, I'm going to see Tommy and them play about an hour from me in January. Thanks again for doing this one 🤘
Look up Tommy Shaw singing “Blue Collar Man” with a full orchestra and choir.
Yeah that Danny guy sent me to the treadmill guy!! We Met in a Layne Staley chat room!! I do dig tf outta Styx though! I love the song River of Decept
AStyx fan since their inception and through all the transitions.
Check out either Crystal Ball or Blue Collar Man both Tommy Shaw greats.
One of the best rock bands
I have been with Styx since 1976 - saw in concert in 1979, 1996, and coming up in 2023!
If you really want to hear Tommy Shaw you should listen to Damn Yankees he is with a great guitarist, Ted Nugent and Jack Blades they formed for just two Albums but the first was called Damn Yankees and that's the name of the song and Come Again, High Enough and others. You will just love this band
I have been a Styx fan since the early 70's.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Renegade was also in the pool scene in Billy Madison
I was introduced to Styx by my older cousins. I’ve never looked back! Awesome in concert as well!
Styx was my first concert, I went to see them when I was in high school, back in 1977 or 78, in Spokane. I then bought every Styx tape and listened to them nearly exclusively on the 6 hours drives to and from college for the next year or so. I loved how different their songs were from each other. I confess, when I was getting tired on a drive, roll down the window, and turn Renegade UP and go just a tad faster than the speed limit... that got me through some boring drives across the wheat fields of the Palouse. :)
Been listening to Styx since the 70’s. They were a big part of my teen years all through High School .
Just found this channel and this popped up after the most recent video.
I’ve been listening to Styx since I was baby. My first memory is hearing the Return Paradise Live album with my dad. It took me years to realize the studio versions didn’t have all the talking and adlibs 😂😂 renegade is still my favorite song.
Since 1973. I had older siblings that turned me on . They are my first Rock and Roll experience.
I saw Styx in April this year. They are a phenomenal live band. I’ve been a Styx fan since before I started school. I had a brother six years older than me, so this band, and other great bands were always on, in the background.
First arena concert I went to - Wichita, Kansas 1984. Absolutely incredible!
Back in the 70s we had make out parties and played the Equniox album over and over again.
Crystal Ball!! suite Madame blue
Tommy Shaw is also an incredible guitarist.
Been a fan since 1977 Saw them twice in concert. Love their Grand Illusion album!!
Fan since the 70s. Got to see the Mr roboto tour
Saw them live last month , Rocked the house . Best show Ive been to in years
Saw them live in 1972 while at Northeast Missouri State University. They were great!
Tommy Shaw was forever trying to pull Styx into the hard rock genre, but Dennis DeYoung kept pushing it into the showtunes genre. For a while it was a perfect mix, but Tommy finally had enough and left to form his own bands. I once had the pleasure of watching Tommy from about five feet away, playing solo at a pizza bar in Seaside Heights New Jersey to a crowd of maybe 20 people, there wasn't even a cover charge,.
Our daughter is 29 and Styx has been one of her favorite bands since she was probably 12! We’ve been to quite a few concerts and they are still amazing! Renegade is my favorite by them!❤
Snowblind was one of my favorites.
I have been a Styx fan from the first time hearing this song when I was 14 years old. My family listen mostly Country or Western or Gospel. I love Rock.
Been a Styx fax since 1988. I first heard them at my best friend Corey's house. He moved to my hometown in Cali from Illinois. He grew up a Styx fan as they were from Chicago. We immediately became friends after he heard me talking to my other buds about Dungeons and Dragons which he loved playing and asked if he could join our group. We just hit it off.
So months into our friendship, I was hanging out at his place so I could play the game "Pools of Radiance" on his Commodore 128 (that was a big deal computer back then!). He asks me if I knew Styx which I did not. He puts on the cassette Grand Illusion album which I was really digging. Then the song "Man In the Wilderness" came on, and i was absolutely hooked! I wanted to hear that again and again and to this day still my #1 fav song by Styx. Sadly about 5 years later, Corey moved away and we lost touch (no Facebook then), but I never stopped loving Styx's music and they are among my top 5 favorite bands of all time.
My mom was a fan so I have been a fan my whole life.
Styx fan for 40 years. Crystal ball come sail away renegade blue collar man best of times good songs
I love me some Styx
back in the day on the
8 track lol I’m old !!!
camping in California goood times 🎶🤘🏽music is life 🙋🏻♀️
My first experience with Styx was in the 1980's. I was in Middle School and heard Mister Roboto. I dove down that rabbit hole like it was coming home for me.
Styx came to the college I was attending in 1976-77, Girlfriend didn't want to go, so dang missed them. Love Styx!
I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s. You KNOW who Styx is!!!
In my view, the whole song is a metaphor for something else--the sudden realization that death (the hangman?) ultimately comes for us all.
Been listening since 1973. Been to see them a score of times.
They used to play my High School! Then Equinox came out and that was that... Coliseums or else. Suite Madame Blue is their best, but MANY great songs until Dennis De Young went crazy. Blue Color Man is also fantastic pop-rock at it's best by this band.
Ive seen styx live at least 10 times and they allways deliver you need to check out snow blind and suite madame blue!!
Became a HUGE Styx fan in 1980. HAD EVERY ALBUM. AND WTF? You paused in the WRONG PLACE. LMAO... I was ready to rock tf out.... and pause... This song was AMAZING on their "Caught In the Act Live!" video. You might also want to check out their "Mr. Roboto" video... in fact, watch Mr. Roboto.
LOL
I've been a fan since the 70s.
I love your reactions.
So real.
I just realized that you gave the Channel a shout out!!!! Ty
Lady & Blue Collar Man are the 2 other big ones!!! Also "Too much time on my hands"
I grew up with Styx music in my childhood….Suite Madame Blue is a great song 🗽
Styx( named after the river Styx that the dead travel in the afterlife), have alot of great tunes, do more
Tommy Shaw also fronted the Band Damn Yankees which was a super group with Jack Blades on bass guitar and Vocals, Ted Nugent on lead guitar and Michael Cartellone from Lynyrd Skynyrd. You should definitely check out Come Again it’s a banger with Tommy’s awesome vocals.
This is from the movie 9to5 that she is in and I lo e this movie..
I’m 54 today 2023……my whole life 🎶🎶
Equinox is one of their best albums. I first saw them live when they were touring behind it's release.
They're touring again and are coming to Montreal on May 21 2024
Saw them last weekend in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Great show! Lots of energy. Enjoy.
I’ve been a STYX fan since the 70s.
Been listening to Styx since I was in 7th grade in ‘78?. I borrowed the high school neighbor’s Grand Illusion album and didn’t return it for 4 months. Memorized every song on there! After that I backtracked to their previous works and followed closely until the album happened that was their undoing: Kilroy Was Here. Mr. Roboto especially caused division in the band I think, and as fans, we weren’t ready for something like that yet in the mid 80’s.
Love Styx and Daryl Hall, if you haven’t watched the Jam sessions they do on “Daryl’s House” check them all out. They did incredible one with Smokey Robinson doing Sara Smiles
50 year fan.
Another metal band that's fabulous live is Iron Maiden. You should check out the live version of the song "Hallowed be thy Name"...epic performance!
Yeah that transition at the start…jarring. But an obvious classic. Can I listen to Styx all day, no. But if I’m on the dance floor I’m gonna enjoy it
"Caught in the act" is their best live album. Full of hits.
I Heard from Styx back then with the song Babe. Yeah, after a broken heart 😅 TX for the react and please continue with this great band! Too Much Time on my hands and Mr. Roboto are two good ones 🤟
Since the mid 70's
Next? "Blue Collar Man." Awesome.
50 years. Try Miss America, Crystal Ball, Suite Madam Blue, Lady, Fooling Yourself, Rockin' the Paradise, The Grand Illusion, and soooooooo many more.
Dennis DeYoung is gone thank goodness. He left in 1999 when the rest of Styx members refused to go pop, which DeYoung wanted to do, only because he thought they would make more money doing pop. No real Styx fans have missed him.
Tommy Shaw and James Young on guitar.
Been massive fan since the early 80's. Best song is Boat on the River. All in a Day's Work is great too
Hit sweet madame blue
A dirge is a funeral song. Slow and stately. Think Chopin's Funeral March.
Tommy Shaw/STYX, SO underrated. I recommend DRAKE WHITE "MAKING ME LOOK GOOD" Official video. Thanks
Blue Collar Man or bust!
I always felt THE BLACK CROWES were heavily influenced by:
FREE (Paul Rodgers)
THE FACES (Rod Stewart) and HUMBLE PIE (Steve Marriott)
(In my opinion)
