This wonderful song covered the airways on pop and country radio in the latter 70's early 80's and was a regular at high school dances. she was an exceptional singer, and performer. Thank you, The Midnight Special for preserving this history.
John Rostill could write some great tunes.... My Mom used to play ONJ's albums of this era quite often,. Regular Saturday ritual. Midnight Special vaults are a treasure chest!
Olivia was truly one of a kind she was talented an beyond beautiful had a beautiful voice an was completely down to earth an had legs for miles ❤ love you Olivia may you rest in love you are sorely missed ❤️ im Australian and she was our beauty ❤️
my Favorite Olivia Newton John Moment on The Midnight Special was when she hosted back around 1980 and she performed "Magic" while wearing white shorts-She was super sexy !
I’m getting sick of reading this same ole diatribe comment, not gonna lie. It’s always directed at women too, never men. MYOB and who cares what others do to their “own” bodies. 🤦♀️
I didn't realize he had done a live version of this on Midnight Special. The old MS DVD collection has a clip of her playing a lip synched version, obviously from a different episode. The lip synch version is funny because the guy on stage playing guitar is miming those super low backing vocals and cracking himself up over it.
wow olivia is alive. very nice song.👍 special request - olivia newton john - he ain t heavy he s my brother/ let it shine - december 5/1975 the midnight special.
I didn't like her music in the era where I was into classic rock: Boston, Styx. Kansas, Journey, Zeppelin, Van Halen etc; however, looking back, she had an angelic voice and was easy on the eyes too. She didn't miss a note in this performance but her male background singers sounded flat to me (but I don't have the most musical ear so maybe I'm mistaken)
Olivia's 1974 musical version of this classic song on the midnight special is the better one because the musicians were better in that one than this 1975 version. Check it out for yourself. You'll see.
@@BigSky1 I thought about that, but I am skeptical if that was the case they would have an unused pedal steel guitar sitting on stage. More likely it is a backing track. Which was not unusual at the time
I actually really liked Karen’s voice more than ONJ. Karen’s drumming was special too. My wife told me a while back this year that it’s been forty years since the passing of Karen. At 32 she passed on way to young. I can’t even imagine where her career would have gone if she was still alive today.
A fabulous country tune. May Olivia Newton John rest in peace. Cheers!

Released: 1974
she's so beautiful. That smile. I was hooked.

I saw her in concert from the first row of a theatre in the round. True beauty. Authentic, uniquely talented. Sunny personality. I really miss her.
I love the expression of the guitarist at 0:54 during his solo. It’s like, “I’m great. And I’ll prove it.” Very funny.
He’s got “bitch, watch this…” face when he hit that lil solo
Cool! She did it live! 😊 I think every girl my age at that time tried that hairstyle. Hehe. She wore it well. 🤩
LOT'S of hairspray I'm guessing.
@@eric_in_florida Maybe, but not as much as the 80s! Lol
Farrah Fawcett hair!
Yep, I was one of those that tried too
I had such a crush on her back in the day as a 15-year-old! Well, that was more like an 77 but hey, she's the best!
Love those pants!
What a beautiful women
She was awesome ❤

Almost as if she was the goddess Terpsichore (Kira) of song and dance.
That was all lip synched. I always prefer live vocals.
Very sweet
Not only the talent to sing it live, but a pro back up band to boot.
She's awesome, as always ❤ Olivia Forever
And that's the way it was.....
Nothing like live ..and no lip sync! Midnight Special way.
Que hermosa es Olivia más su voz siempre será recordada.
One of my favorites from Olivia 🎶💖
REST IN PEACE OLIVIA. GOD BLESS YOU
What an awesome performance! and the style (clothes, hair, etc..), like so many TMS uploads, is off the charts! haha! love it!
Wonderful, RIP Olivia.
I love this song, but it needs that deep bass that Mike Sammes provided on the original recording.
Thank you, that's what I was looking for!
Definitely; songs missing something here.
Her pants were a great fit.
They sold for US$50,000 at her Julien’s auction in 2019 😀
I know Everyone is going to leave this Earth One Day...
Livv, You left way to soon
No tatts, plastic surgery or botox…nothing compares to natural beauty!
not to mention, exquisite charisma!

Most beautiful woman I've ever Seen.
Very lovely indeed.
❤️forever
The Band’s backing vocals 🙉
🤠 Country Olivia is swell.
Great voice Now sounds in heaven.

Wow 😊
I love live music, I do.

She got Princess Diana hair. So pretty and fluffy
She used it first. Later, Princess Diana was one more on the list
Back in 1975 I tried to let her know, but no response.
❤🙌♥️
OMG
Thank you for posting this. What about “The Air That I Breathe,” “Let It Shine” and “He Ain’t Heavy?”

I was so surprised Olivia's grandfather was the MAX BORON, one of the founders of Quantum Mechanics.

Are the audiences all petrified? How come they show no reaction to such a legend sings so good! LOL
There is a ghost playing the pedal steel guitar! I can hear it, but there is nobody there
His name was Casper
I think the pedal steel player might be behind on the left where the strings are.
@@BigSky1 I thought about that, but I am skeptical if that was the case they would have an unused pedal steel guitar sitting on stage. More likely it is a backing track. Which was not unusual at the time
Check the 14 second mark. The guitarist is simulating a pedal steel with a volume pedal. That's who you're hearing
@@JohnFromArlingtron You’re right. Well spotted.
Love those britches
Digital breadcrumbs ♥️🌈🛸👽🤖👻🥰🎅
昔はよく竹馬に乗ってるのかと言ったもんだ
The wide leg bell bottoms kinda gave that illusion, eh? I love her pants~outfit. Olivia’s a cutie 🥰
I would write that Olivia Newton John - ONJ as her BFF Karen Carpenter called her - was gorgeous. But that would be completely sexist. So I won’t.
I actually really liked Karen’s voice more than ONJ. Karen’s drumming was special too.
My wife told me a while back this year that it’s been forty years since the passing of Karen. At 32 she passed on way to young. I can’t even imagine where her career would have gone if she was still alive today.
@@curtisphilumalee1447Liked Karen Carpenter’s voice much more too.
@@sg-yq8pmI hear Hal Blaine’s name in many many comments on music vids; he was a powerful force of a drummer!
It’s not sexist to say that, at all, and I’m a lady; Olivia is a beautiful woman, it’s a great compliment, to be perfectly honest.
I always preferred ONJ’s voice over Karen’s. ONJ’s voice just affects me as no other does.
Not really my cup of tea...kinda boring. When are you getting back to the good ones you were doing there for awhile last week?
Everybody has their own cup of tea! TMS featured a lot of great artists, some known more than others. Givem' a break....they're doing their best.☺️
@@kthor Who asked you? And I don't agree with you that they are doing their best.
You're entitled to your opinion, but I love this. Classic
Country Olivia was the best Olivia.
