- How To Balance Manuals
Here are a few tips that I've found useful over the years while trying to improve my manual game. Like I say in the video, I think I am much better at nose manuals but these tips should apply to either one. I think I will be making a follow up video talking about how to ollie into and out of manuals sometime soon as well.
Manuals are an interesting thing because it's less about technical skill and more about innate balance. But, while balance is something you have to develop for yourself, there are still techniques you can use to help you learn to balance better on a board.
As always, thank you for watching and I'll see you next time!

Vlskate: uses words to explain the trick
Braille: ok, you just pop the board and just booop. Up up. bamm.

I was riding today and I did the longest manual I’ve done so far... it was like 4 seconds 💀. I was doing it and I got excited but then my tail scraped the floor and I spun around, flipped backwards and landed on my feet because I was going fast 😂. It was fun while it lasted
Same!
If you count in Mississippi's that is pretty long
Saf Corp so you accidentally did a backflip, wow so believeable

Too bad that "infinite manual" cheat from Tony Hawk's pro skater isn't available irl.
xd
Andy Anderson is super close to it
it is if ur good enough
June saito
isaac selander z Or Moon Gravity or Infinite grind
When trying tricks I accidentally manual all the time , can never do it intentionally 😀
That means you're leaning backwards. Learn ollie nose manuals and that will improve your ability to stay centered on the board

@@James-ip5gz thx for the tip im really struggling
Adnan Can relatable asf 😂
your tutorials are so much better than braille's. In my opinion
Dexterity 20 Braille are more for entertainment
Braille is for fake skaters
NisaRouge don’t be a douche. His channel is cool too, it’s just more focused on younger beginners.
Another note is that skating started out looking dumb as fuck, it was about having fun and surfing the ground, started with surfing
It's a lot more relaxing
be aware of razor tail while you are practicing
That's why I suggest learning to manual on the nose of the board so you don't lose pop on your tail
That's how you learn more hahahah
Whats a razor tail?
Hold my beef stew are you new to skateboarding cause razor tail is when the tail of your board scrapes against the concrete and over time the tail gets very thin and you receive no pop from your board
yes i am new to skateboarding and thanks for telling me what it means
The "secret" to manuals is that they get easier when you get faster.
Fr
First time I tried doing manuals on my skateboard I was going maybe a bit too fast and fell, twisted my knee. Luckily it healed up good months later and of course I never stopped skating. Back at it and my Ollie’s are getting better. Going to make more attempts at manuals again soon.
Where are you at now?
@@hobogrifter Think he broke is neck and is paralized all the way down
@@ScrambledNotEggs sounds abou right
@@hobogrifter he’s now in a coma but he has his treflips pretty consistent
As someone who hasn’t skated in 20+ yrs it’s time for me to get back on
I'm a skater that us not very good but I say you should do it, go for it but because if you don't start doing it again you might regret it, so I say you should do it.😁
Your never too old to skate!!!!
And never too young to skate!
A tip that helped me with nose manuals was to have a straight front leg.
Any time I see people doing manuals I always think of Wacky Arm Inflatable Tube Men
Omg yes
🌫
*wackywavinginflatablearmflailingtubemen*
You mean whacky wavy inflatable arm flailing tube man?
You said It wrong dude
i just fell down while holding on something XD
That hit way to close to home
4:46 aaaand that's why we hate nose manuals.
we know who we are...
Number Six Yup! Razor tail > razor face
After trying to nose manual for a week, you naturally catch yourself with your front foot as you get better and better. You just know when you're leaning too far forward and about to fall. Very rarely do I fall like that unless I hit a rock
That's so me lol
Shit gets so squirrely when I try nose manuals, feels so awkward, back foot trips me up since I'm not used to balancing on the nose as good, my backfoot starts floating and I have to fight just to keep from pivoting.
@@warhammer1 I'm using a Longboard myself I found a bit of speed will fix that for you maybe try it riding Alternative, I usually ride goofy but tried Regular and wasn't to bad, how is you nose manual going now
Someday my manuals will look like this 👍
Manuals are so much fun! 👍🏼

These have helped sooooooooo much I’m kinda a beginner in skateboarding like ik how to ride and save myself if need be I just can’t do tricks and these have helped immensely. The first video I watched was the how to Ollie and I did my first ever Ollie the same day I watched it but still really suck haven’t been able to do it again but still helped.thanks for making these videos
Like the way how you explained everything going in detail and foot position one of best vids on skate boarding I've seen I reckon can't wait to try on my 46inch long board
Great timing, just as i started to get back into manuals :)
Thanks for the help, these are my favorite thing to do
dude your videos help me so much like i can tell that you care about your vids keep up the good work man
I always turn to VL skate for specific problems as for this vid it's probably the best again on the subject. Thanks!
👌 thank you i have been trying to find a video like this
That helped a lot surprisingly, very good tutorial videos 🙌
Thanks for the video. Definitely something I need to work on.
The video I have been waiting for
one of fav vids rn :D keep up teh good work
Don't you hate when you hit your shin on a SKATEboard???
Worse with a scooter. Not coz it's metal, just coz it's a lame ass scooter
don’t u hate when u realise that you are actually the poser
mustang_bros my man. Every man and his dog that has insta is a poser.
I’m trying to learn faking big spins, and when I practice, the board often goes flying and hits the ball of my ankle. That’s so much worse than a scooter.

I learnt about this channel through Braille. I prefer your trick tips over braille's tips. I just watch them cause they funny. But thanks for every video
They all help alot
Can you make a tips video for "into a manual" and out a manual ?
Hopefully you can do it now, but the only tip i can give you is to kind of pop your tail like you'd go for an ollie but hold it it just takes practice.
Manuals are just so cool and satisfying
Dude its so rare to find skateboard tutorials that go in depth like yours. Most of em only mention where to place the feet but you look at the big picture. upper body is important as hell with tricks like these
Today I was attempting a manual. I totally forgot to balance. It was like my brain went blank. So, I kept scraping the tail of the board on the floor and I was thinking: “Why can I not do this? Am I doing something wrong?” The answer was yes. I was doing something wrong.
In conclusion, if you’re wanting to know how to manual then don’t scrap the tail of the board on the floor. 😃
i just want to say that i love you and i think you're the best 🤗
I just recently learned to nose manual and want to improve more at them. The first thing I noticed when learning nose manuals is how sore I got from practicing. Yet I can do very long regular manuals and not feel sore at all. So, clearly there is a muscle development factor in this. I believe we automatically get better at balancing manuals as our stabilizer muscles grow with practice.
Thx for the information and I will use this thank you for making this
Grinding and manuels are the 2 tricks i found to be the coolest and always wanted to do tbh
Thank you for another helpful video! Ive just started skating, so im still a beginner and watching your videos helped me, so thank you so much for sharing the good content! I hope to be as good as you one day :)
u stil skate bri?
This is a great video!
thanks man this helped me alot
Helped me a lot thank you
Nice videooo, congrats bro! 😎
I think it’s best to practice manuals stationary, because if you’re practicing manuals while rolling you’ll get razor tail extremely fast. First get somewhat of an idea on how to balance you’re Manual, than attempt them while rolling! It prolongs the life of your board 🤙🏽
Good points here VL👊🏽👊🏽
Tomcat is
It helps but it's completely different to be honest. I thought I could nose manual stationary on a carpet at home but when I actually got the hang of nose manuals rolling (took a week) I noticed the muscles you use to balance are completely different.

Was just trying to do manuals yesterday!! Thanks for the video :)
Thank you!
Thanks I just started skating a while ago 😊
I've been skating for so long and still suck at manuals... my journey to learn starts here!
Must be a mind reader because I needed this 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I recommend leaning a little more foreword it makes it easier for my manuals and nose manuals more back idk it helps
thank *YOU*
Thx a lot
Your the best🔥💯
Thanks !
Fell down doing manual today, board shot out from beneath me when I leaned too far back. Lucky I had my wrist guards though! Took a layer of plastic off the brace. But i finally cracked 1 second manuals.
And then I did the splits practicing a running start.
My control foot (back foot if regular manual or front foot on nose manual), probably was too far back on the tail ... I think it needs to be more near the screws. Thank you for the vid!
Thanks for this one Vilas. I suck at nose manuals. I’ve recently been spending a lot of time doing stationary manuals while watching tv at night. It has helped tremendously. It is surprising how much the muscles in your legs and feet have to work when balancing stationary manuals. After doing it for an extended period of time, you can really feel it.
This is the best skateboarding trainer ever
Thank you
Hooray 🎉 ❤
The manual is a trick i thought id never be able to do cause i have bad balance but im finally starting to get it :D
Skating is so stress relieving am I right I skate when I’m stressed
Great video's man. I have been watching you since back in the driveway
Nice video 🙏
Wth...I was literally just trying to learn manuals for the first time earlier today! Crazy haha. Thanks dude
Where is this place ur recording ? It seems dope
I am inloved wit manuals 😂
From my observations of those that can manual well, it's all in the cantilevered hands used as moment arms... held parallel to the direction of travel...
That first spot in the parking lot looks really quiet and chill and a perfect practice skate spot.
Another really helpful video! Thanks dude!
do a video on how to ollie in and out of a manual
Thanks man
I tried manual before and i cant even ride this 30cm, but I tried tommorow.

I was trying to learn how to manual earlier and I fell on my rib so hard on the road
Do you have a video for nose manuals and some tips for a FS 180
Nice video 👍 I will take a few tips into account
I would like to know more about how exactly the upper body should be used for balancing, arms where and how to correct, details, you know
Thanks this hwlp
I usually try to manual putting the wheels on a crack
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
I’m getting better and better I’m at 1 second now!
If you’re having trouble getting your upper body to help keep you balanced, one thing i do is tighted my butt muscles and abs
Keep em rollin!! Always a treat!/|\
Hey vl skate idk if you'll respond but what hardness wheels do you ride?
I wish the roads in my country is that smooth
Honestly, I've found it much easier to have the back foot pretty far backwards (pretty much ollie spot) and have the front foot a bit more back (on the first bolts or even further to the middle of the board) as well. I really don't like to have my back foot in the pocket for manuals. At the same time, for nose manuals I definitely _do_ use that approach a little more, but it's still pretty far on the tip of the nose. I suspect this will have a lot to do with how steep your tail and nose of the board is, because for regular manuals having my back foot in the pocket really doesn't work at all. I don't have the back foot like truly over the edge of the tail, but definitely not in the pocket. The other thing to note is how some people prefer 1 stiff leg and 1 bend leg versus others who prefer two stiff legs and use the upper body to keep balance, instead of bending / stretching the leg. I think beginners will attempts to not 'freeze into balance' enough and move around too much. But I also think a 'bend knee' manual is much harder to keep for longer.
Bruh I’m so close I just keep leaning back to much and now I’m getting razor tail😤😤😤
One time when i was learning moving ollies i landed too far forward and i was holding a nose for like 20 seconds and didnt realise now i cant do one again lmao
What were the black shoes you were wearing in that video
Nice video
Owen Slattery didnt even watched da whole video
Is it alright that I put my front foot a little further back when I manual?
