    Congratulations!
    You're one of the few who got the gist of his message on first guess. Yes. Suga is playing 2 characters of himself. When he started BTS he wanted to be a king with power and fame and clothes and cars and all the luxury he could acquire. But then he realized his most valuable commodity was his time. Paraphrasing. He just wanted to put his feet back on the ground and live life without all the stuff. There is no CGI in this video. It was filmed on location. It's all real. And yes. Suga is a genius. He created the concept, wrote the song, produced it, hired the perfect director, with the perfect cinematographer and perfect art direction. It's the Most Beautiful MV I've ever seen. I have no idea why it wasn't nominated for anything. It's Stunningly Exquisite to look at. The next in the trilogy. Haegum. Hay gum. 2 characters again which I know you would have figured out right away...so it's not a spoiler for you. I do know you could have gone into more depth. Do it. It's your channel. Your POV. Your passion. If it's too long for others, they can turn it off.
    Check out the reactor, Roscoe. He goes into Deep Dives in interpreting the meaning and the visuals. He is a director by profession. His reactions are long and involved. So. Do You. Indulge us with your expertise! Again. Bravo on your interpretation.

    Nobody asked for this, but I'm inspired tonight.
    The way I see it, the peasant storyline follows the real life story of Yoongi -- he's a nobody with ridiculous talent. He joins BTS. (This is actually the first time I realized the Jin/JK fight scene represents when BTS came together and the fights they had as a young group). When he takes the keys, BTS debuts. The underground haters mock them, but at the same time notice that the character is starting to prosper? When he rolls up on the king, he represents BTS rising success and international success. The detained version of himself is after BTS became a global phenomenon; he feels trapped by the fame.
    I've always seen the king as a metaphor for:
    1) the rap/hiphop haters (ARMY is the executioner in this one!)
    2) SUGA - as part of BTS, suga is king of everything, but AGUST D is inside him and evolving the persona of suga
    3) Ego - a cautionary tale from come-up Yoongi to World Star. Don't lose yourself to ego and become mindless with money and power.
    Okay and a final thing I want to add is about the word daechwita. People look it up and they're like, oh it's military music or played for royal processions. It's a HERALD. It announces a motherfucker is coming. ***Imagine the scene in Aladdin where Ali rides into the city (but, like, military and Korean and seeeerious)*** He's fucking heralding himself.
    There's more, but this is already too much. It's one of my favorite songs. I read that it's not autobiographical, and is a reflection of struggles common in their industry and I can see that. I just see autobiography, too. 😊 My ADHD is ON tonight. Sheesh.

      @@joeesparks7 I relish the technical insights of those with professional music or video knowledge and experience which really helps appreciate the intelligence, creativity, talent, hard work and quality (and humor) that BTS has in their productions.
      I think most ARMY would also like to hear your analysis of the mv's.
      Over the years, I have gotten my fill of all those who just use BTS for clickbait, and say nothing besides, "I didn't expect that!", "They are so hot", or "I liked that. Like and subscribe."
      ps, I also appreciate your manner, paying attention with minimal swearing, plus not vaping and such while watching.
      I would suggest to raise the video insert a little and make it a bit bigger, so viewers can read the CCs, especially when we pause to catch up or notice details. Otherwise the pause time line, and bottom icons are in the way of the text.

    the trilogy in order: Daechwita , Haegeum and Amygdala. The most aggressive or bad one is the alter ego (Agust d) if they are like two personalities.Agust d backwards is Suga, TD is where he was born and the first rap group he belonged to .

    • @NanciBK
      @NanciBK Před 3 měsíci

      DT Suga, not Suga TD. Deagu Town Suga.

  • @NanciBK
    @NanciBK Před 3 měsíci +1

    Yoongi says that he sets traps in his music. If you fall into one (if you get offended or feel attacked) then it was for you. It's not about anyone specifically, but for those who fit the description and choose to take it personally, he invites them to do so. LOL
    The one exception to this is in Cypher Pt 2 when he says to quit rapping and take a vacation and "go to Hawaii, go home" which is a direct reference to a Rapper name BFree who was from Hawaii and was relentlessly awful to BTS, dissing them to their faces.
    Yes, two aspects of self. The trilogy is a story of his mental health journey with his traumas and he plays dual roles in each one, a "good" aspect and a "bad" aspect. The scar represents his trauma and the "good" aspects are more healed versions of himself with a more healed scar, while the "bad" aspects represent more damaged and struggling aspects of himself. He is "killing" the older and less healthy versions of himself and moving on. In this MV it's his rage, paranoia and isolation he is symbolically destroying. The Mad King with the blonde hair like Yoongi from his early years in BTS is alone, paranoid, taking heads, wrathful. The Peasant Agust D is no longer alone but with his 6 brothers behind him (not the BTS members themselves, but representative of them) and one woman representing ARMY. He is more confident, happier, more grounded. In the end, he shoots the Mad King with a Colt ARMY model revolver, representing the strength he found in ARMY.
    Note that Peasant Agust D exchanges a couple of looks and gestures with the street butcher in the beginning of the MV, who is the same person as the executioner at the end of the MV. Also the two guys who get into a scrap behind him on the street in the beginning are members of BTS making a cameo appearance. Jin in the false beard and Jungkook.
    Also, Agust is pronounced like the month of August. Agust D is DT Suga backwards - which is Daegu Town Suga. Daegu is his hometown and also Daegu Town Crew was his original underground rap crew. He went by Gloss as an underground rapper, which is a play on his name, Yoongi, which means "bright/glossy/pearly/shiny" because he is so pale and was even as a newborn. Suga is short for Shooting Guard, his favorite basketball posiition to play. Fun Fact: Yoongi is the first ever NBA Global Ambassador. A fact he finds amusing. He said "Why is the NBA calling me? Aren't they more famous than me?" LOL He can often be seen courtside for games whenever he gets the chance (before he went into his military service.)

    A couple of things that you might not have picked up on. When the king is in the courtyard, before they start slaying people, those are a bunch of people bowing down and he literally stands on one of them. The king is power-mad and Yoongi has spoken about how greedy he was in the beginning of their time as BTS. Yoongi doesn't want to be like that anymore, so slum-Yoongi gets rid of the mad king.

    It’s pronounced August D. 😉It’s Suga reversed plus DT for Daegu Town which is his hometown in South Korea. Daechwita means “great blow” in Korean and is a form of martial music played when the king is on procession. It’s also a play on words for Big Hit, the entertainment company that is home to BTS. Agust D is pronounced "August Dee"... just like the month. It's a combination of his stage name in BTS, SUGA (Shoe-gah) which is from his favorite position to play in basketball (SHOOting GAurd), with DT, which stands for "Daegu Town" (Day-goo). Daegu is the city he is from and Daegu Town was the name of his underground rap crew before he joined BTS... so... SUGA backwards + Dt... AGUST D.

    He wrote, produced, made the beats and conceptualized all these videos and storylines alone basically as a mixtape, no professional studio by himself on his laptop. The back up dancers are not his BTS members, but there are two acted in this, briefly, in the beginning scene in the street market. This is a popular real set that is used in many K-Drama's. Suga insisted on going all out on this music video, and he does the story boards, or is at least majorly involved in them. It was his idea to do the fake scar, and that scene with him raising his head and seeing his face under the hat. Day-chi-ta is how you pronounce it. no W sound. Very little CGI is used in this scene. Only at the end when he kills the king. 14:39 timestamp on this video, if you check it out, you will see JIN and JK of BTS, with the arm bump, and the minor fight scene. Jin has a fake moustache on. It's funny. There is a behind the scenes for this and for each of the three trilogy MV's. I'll link those for you.

    Bookish Theories has an awesome explanation video for this song/music video if you are interested in uncovering the hidden symbolism in the video. Agust D has also said of the ending, “I don’t know. Maybe I missed.” Not showing the king’s dead body was intentional. As if the mad power hungry king is a part of himself that he tried to get rid of but couldn’t. (At least at this point of his life)

      Please don’t repeat the myth, however nice a story it makes.
      Yoongi certainly isn’t the great or great-great or any kind of grandson of the Empress Myeongseong. In any case, she married into the royal family, she wasn’t born royal. He belongs to the same clan (160,000+ strong) and may be very distantly related to her but he doesn’t appear anywhere on the Joseon royal family tree. The House of Yi is extremely well documented, for centuries, right up to the present day.

    Thank you so much for this reaction! To answer a couple of questions, his name is pronounced like August. It's SUGA and DT for his hometown (Daegu town) all backward. Also, those were not the other BTS members as his "gang," however, the two guys that get in a fight in the street scene are members Jin and Jungkook! In my opinion, and the way I interpret the characters he plays, is that the king represents the haters and jealous artists that are consistently bombarding him and BTS with negative comments and nasty rumors, trying to bring them down and belittle their success. The commoner character represents SUGA himself and could also represent BTS. In the end, the haters are destroyed. I could be off-base, but that's my take. Regardless, the MV is epic, and i never tire of watching it! Oh, BTW, Daechwita is a loud drum rhythm that is played specifically when the king enters. Think, "Hail to the Chief." Thanks again for your thoughts on BTS vids. I thoroughly enjoy them! 💜

    It can be both about inner conflicts, criticism of the system, industry etc.

    Ooh, if you're really interested in what he was saying you should check out an explanation video for all the crazy Korean history references. I like the DKDKTV one but Bookish Theories also has one.
    This track kinda goes with the BTS track Shadow - Agust D is Suga's shadow/dark side and the Trilogy is Yoongi working towards integrating the competing sides of himself to achieve self-actualisation. They were on a whole Carl Jung thing in 2020 👍🏽🖤💜

    You will love this song. It's a nostalgic song that includes homages from legendary rappers from America from the 80s to the 2000s. I hope you listen to it once. You'll see how high BTS has a heart for hip hop. If you enter this address, you can see the video with the lyrics.

    We don't hate you for mispronouncing. anything. Geez. It's another language. NO one. I repeat NO knew how to pronounce it on first sight. A helpful note. Don't look at the spelling to pronounce it. The W is silent. Phonetically. Didge. uh. taw. Actually the Korean pronunciation is more Ditch. Cha. Tah. You can always go on google to ask. And several comments below have already explained Agust D is pronounced August Dee. So. Be nice to yourself. It's ok.
