just bought a hollow body kit and am so excited to finish it and gift it to my husband
Nice!!!
Be careful about hollow-body kits, as they tend to not have wiring backplates and they can be harder to solder everything into place with them. Take your time and don't rush anything, and you should be fine. Good luck!
@@dwaterson21 for sure. Wiring up a semi hollow body can be an exercise in patience!
The finished guitar turned out great!
This is the sweetest looking kit build I’ve seen. Nice job.
Many Thanks. Sound test video will be out soon.
Fantastic video series. Thanks so much for putting in all the time to make both the guitar and videos so we could see all that is involved. Been thinking about one of these kits and yes, assumed the hardware & electronics would be throwaways. But the guitar itself seems solid.
Many Thanks,. Yes, the wiring harness especially is a throw away. The pickups were a surprise, but there is no guarantee that they would all be good. For a kit at this price, QC seems to be an issue (by some of the comments and other reviews I have seen). But the bones of the kit do seem to be very solid.
Looking solid, Bill!
Many Thanks!
You could also do a black leather dye on the fretboard. I love a dark rosewood.
Nicely done Bill! 👍
Thanks Gio.
Been following along Bill. Nice build. I'm doing a headless right now. That is a beautiful "V".
Thank you. A headless would be fun. it is something on my plate for the future.
nice build. i ordered a custom pango kit. i thought a bout not getting the hard ware but the price difference was like $20. so i got the hardware lol
Yeah, the bridge isn't too bad. So the extra $20 is worth it for the bridge. In mine the pickups are pretty good as well, at least my initial impression of them... Will see once I sit down to do the tone demos
@@billsguitargarage That's what I figure, if the bridge is okay that's 20 bucks right there, if I get it all seperately it'll easily be 150 bucks on top without pups...
I like your in depth explanation……I have a prs kit to put together….but I’m a chicken…..
Very nice build! Looking forward to the pickup comparison. I didn‘t see you grounding the shields of the pickup cavities, do you think that’s not necessary?
No need to ground to the pickup cavities. With Humbuckers you don't really need to shield it. I do mainly for esthetics. The pickups themselves are ground to the pots which in turn grounds them to the bridge.
Bill, would you recommend I shield my cavities and electronic cover with copper tape?
Lots of debate on both sides regarding shielding, but as a rule I always shield with either conductive paint or copper tape.
Has anyone had an issue with the holes for the bridge being too small?
I have seen a couple reviews where people have mentioned some issues with the hole size and spacing. Just keep in mind that you want the hole to be a very snug fit. The smooth portion should fit in the hole, but the splined portion will not. You will need to use a mallet or a press to install the posts.
@@billsguitargarage Thanks. The small portion wasn’t even close to fitting
Don’t Fear The Reamer
Absolutely!
