  • Today I'll explain how you MIDI can trigger your outboard synths in Pro Tools.

    How to use actual midi cables and record audio with Juno 106 in Pro Tools

    Hey what if the synths are out for sync?

    I'm using the same synth for a controller as well as playback device, and getting double notes etc. because PT is triggering the same synth I'm playing during record. I was hoping that muting the MIDI track would also mute the midi data being sent to my synth as I'm recording but the double triggers are still being sent. The only work around I have found is to route the output of the midi track on which I am recording, to "none," during record and then back to my synth for playback... but that's a workflow killer. Is there a preference to tell the midi track to output midi data on playback only? Not on record? That would be sweet.

      Sorry for the late reply, I missed this. I'm not sure on your issue. At this point I do everything in Ableton and I don't use keyboard controllers to control the DAW. I would think your workaround would be the best option. Maybe try muting the synth on the keyboard while recording and see if that works.

    Hi, have you seen any issues with it being in sync with the DAW and the BPM being sample accurate? What did you need to do in order to make sure that it would've worked with no latency or other issues to you analog synths being connected audio and midi wise?

      There's always a little bit of delay with analog running into the DAW. But sometimes it helps with the groove of the song, depends on what you're going for. It's good to check the delay time by zooming in on the wav file and nudging it accordingly.

    I cannot for the life of me get PT to send midi info into my Moog Grandmother. I have tried everything. Nothing will make the midi info go into the GM

    It will be great if you show us how to sync the synth to protools. I can’t connect my Yamaha Genos to protools. I tried the play back engine but what am i missing ? 😢 can’t seem to find any tutorial about it

      Oh dang! If you connect the synth via usb to your computer, Pro Tools should be able to see it automatically. If it doesn’t it could be the synth USB output. Or try a different usb cable.

    What if the outboard synth doesn't appear under the 'predefined' output menu?

    I find when I try to record multiple parts in Protools with different hardware synths, the timing is off. NOONE covers this ever. Baffling why.
    Have you encountered this?

    • @jonsolomusic
      @jonsolomusic  Před rokem

      I know what you mean! If I record analog synths this way I only do one at a time. There's always a little lag regardless because it's an analog signal.
