- Rigacar is a free add-on for Blender to help you rigging cars.
In this video, you will discover the main structure of a rig generated by rigacar. You will also learn how to adjust animation widgets and animation parameters.
Online documentation is available here :

If anyone has camber on their car you have to make the following change:
1. Make sure your wheel is set to _not_ have any camber and that its Y rotation is at 0
2. Go to layer 32 of the armature
3. Select the biggest green bone on a wheel and select "bone" from the context menu
4. Change Y rotation to whatever you want your camber to be (for me that was 7.5 degrees)
hope this helps!
Never had to rig vehicles with camber angle. Thank you for this. Let me known if you have issues after modifying the rig. Maybe I could improve the generation process to take this into account (for instance by using the rotation of the wheel on the Y axis).
digiCreatures yeah my method works perfectly as far as I know. Wheels soon as you would expect, and the front wheels still turn just fine. But something built into the rig to change camber would definitely be way better!
@@cervidae3359 I will test if I can use the global rotation of the wheel mesh on the Y axis to apply camber automatically on the rig.
@@digicreatures1945 Maybe also add some sort of "random seed" to wheel rotation, so each wheel isn't at the exact same angle. This would be especially helpful when the car is parked, so the wheels don't all look perfectly straight.
@@cervidae3359 You can already do that. Just rotate yourself each wheel widgets to choose the starting angle.
Amazing tutorials! Very well explained! From now on, this kind of rigs are easier and faster!
i love this rig,it makes the car move so realisticly
Thank you so much, it is indeed a very nice add-on as well as the tutorials.
Great add on! Thanks for making this!!! I had to learn where to place the origins the hard way but after that its great!!!
ugh Where to place the origins!
Beautiful tutorial ! =) Very powerful ad-don !
thank you, Ivan.
Hey You are a legend- thanks so much. i use this tool a lot- in my vids. works like butter once you get the hang of it. merci beaucoup
Hey! That is a very good addon and tutorial!! Thank you very very much.
OMG U CAN not believe how greatful I am.
I'm on 2.82 and it still works fine for me!
You are just awesome........
Hope this gets tons of views........
Thank you friend, you are the best health from Paraguay
Thanks man its so awesome!
BEST ADDON
this is awesom
I would be very interested in how you would integrate a steering wheel. Maybe you can make a video about it 🙂
Cool
Can you make it, so the wheels move/turn when using bigger wheels? (I can't scale down the wheel
or the materials will be messed up, the models that Im using are from mecabricks ( The Armature rotates the wheels as if, the wheels origin point is not at the center of geometry)
Hi @digitCreatures
At 18.00... when i move the suspension factor number...nothing happens with the car suspension. Same with the rolling factor.
So the suspension isnt being calculated when I animated the car along a path. The steering and rotation of the wheels is working fine.
Also, when I move the suspension widgets seperately..the also work fine (ik can see the body of the car going up and down..)
So its just that the suspension isnt being calculated automatically when I set the suspension fac to 0.2 or something...
Can you tell me what the cause might be for this? Everything else seems te be working just fine...
Thank you !
Rigacar is not a simulation tool, it just generate rig. You have to animate your car in a traditional way (especially suspension).
Thank you for this, cant really believe this is free, is there a way we can support this?
Thanks but no, there is no way actually to support my work. You have to use it really for free :)
@@digicreatures1945 you are awesome
Hello! How to make wheel camber in Blender 4.1 using Rigacar 7.1?
is there any way to animate a car but not following a path?
This add-on is amazing. Are you able to explain how to add more bones to the rig? I found the vertex groups in the "DEF" bones category and am trying to add a bone on the "main bones" layer to control the door of my model... I have only been able to go as far as adding the bone and parenting it to the root bone, but I can't figure out how to weight paint the door and make it correspond to the new bone. Thank you!
In Blender, you can use an armature to animate objets or to animate meshes. Rigacar generates armature to animate objects because car models are usually made from separated objects. So you do not need to weight paint anything. If you are not used to create armature to animate meshes, the simplest solution is to have one or more separate objects for each door. In the armature, add one bone for each door. Parent these bones to the DEF-Body bone (you have to enable layer 16 of the armature to see it). Then parent door objets to the corresponding bone.
@@digicreatures1945 Thank you, your answer helped me. Rigacar is so much fun to work with!
So if I'm going to be animating a railway related video and I was wondering if there was a way to make the rig for the side rods follow the wheel rotation and the car rig. Are there any tutorials? If I need to be more specific with this question then please let me know
Trains are specific stuff. Even if you can use rigacar, I would not use it for such models. For instance you don't need steering and drifting but you need to rig the side rods. Sorry, you should look for another solution and probably create your own rig.
@@digicreatures1945 Do you know of any tutorials that well assist me in making a rig? I have no experience in that field.
@@dieseld261 If you are still looking for solutions I would suggest Pixel Level Pixel. He has done a whole series on rigging and in particular for your requirement he shows ways of rigging pistons, which could be applied to the drive rods on a train.
@@WaterShowsProd I'm not looking for a solution anymore but I will definitely be sure to check that out. Thanks.
Thank you so much for thi Add on😊
One question: with 3.0 and no Layers, the work flow is invariate? Im still working on the first steps.of this series. Thank you bye.
Layers for armature still exist in blender 3.0. 3.x series introduced collection as a merging solution for group of objects and scene layers. But this is a different topic
OMG.. You're such a genius~ Thanks for your work~! Can I use it really free?? haha~ I Want make a youtube videos using this add-on~~ Is it free right?? haha thanks again~~
Yes it is free now and for all. Don't forget to thank the Blender team and all the developers and the community. Rigacar is just a very small contribution to Blender.
@@digicreatures1945 Thank you for this addon brother
@@digicreatures1945 bro really thank you. for your work.
Ok
Can you now do a tutorial on giw to move all this tp unity and make a game with it
I need help, The rotation of my wheels aren't smooth.
How to add bones to the rig?
I like ur accent
Hey ! so i've been using CARRIG PRO but this is so much simpler and i am planning to switch, i have one problem tho i click generate after renaming and stuff , and everything is parented correctly but i when i try to pose it, the wheels dont move, and also i suddenly can't find their bones, i tried a coupleof times and it's the same issue, however when i move the rig everything is moves which means, the wheels are parented to something in the rig it's just i can't find dthe bones and so it doesn't work
I Figured it out, in case anyone runs into the same thing, my tires center point wasn't at each center of each tire so click each tire go to object then set center point to geometry
You're right, it is an issue many people have. Take care of the origin point because rigacar uses it to decide where the bones should be located.
As for CarRig Pro, I haven't tested it. But as far as I know, the design is completely different. It includes support for simulation as rigacar is a pure rig generator only for animators (no simulation support at all).
how do you set the bone origin to world origin?
Not sure what you mean. If you want to reset the armature location, you should use the shortcut alt+G to reset the location.
can somebody help me? I am in trouble as my root is wayyyy bigger from the original car size. if I got to layer 14 it's alright but layer 1 is still big. pls help
hi man did you have solve that problem. I have similar issue. I can not find m.y root animation widget
@@rodrigomaldonado7642 oh. I solved it. Just make the BODY OBJECT . Like the mesh as the .body name and not a NULL. It solved my issue
Hey David, can you update the tutorial for 2.8?
It is definitely part of my todo list but I have no time right now :(
@@digicreatures1945 I was following "make games" channel, he is trying to update your tutorial, he said in the latest version of Blender you cant bake the wheel rotation when following a path, is there a fix coming soon?
@@MrIzeQ Thanks for this info. The baking for wheel rotation is based on the animation baker in Blender. This feature was constantly broken and modified by the developpers until the very last moment of 2.80 release. Version 5 of this add-on was created specifically to work with 2.80 release. I will check but normally everything is fine with the latest version.
hi can you tell about how rig suspension car, like time 22 minute in this video, ground detect influence on wheel only.
8:08 there are no layers in bone sections in blender 2.8.. what i should do? here are screenshots

ahhh solved! i just misclicked the section icon..i clicked bones instead stickman.

My wheels turn the wrong way and slow. What should I do?
Activate "Wheels on Y axis" (put the value of 1) and move the root widget along the Y axis. Check the spinning of the wheels. If it is not correct, it may be a problem of scaling your objects or scaling the armature itself (never do that). In this case, check your model, apply the scaling and recreate the armature. If the problem occurs when you bake the animation of the wheels, there is a good chance it is an optical effect. I speak about it in point 8) in the section "Advices and reminders" of the documentation:
"After baking animation for wheels, it could seem the wheels are not spinning in the right direction (going backward while the model is going forward) or the wheels are barely spinning. You can check the generated animation curves in the graph editor but it is more likely an optical effect. It happens in movie, it happens in life and it happens in Blender. To know more, read io9.gizmodo.com/why-do-wheels-sometimes-appear-to-spin-backwards-1593807400
Try using motion blur at render time to have a more realistic effect."
You can also check animation curves for the wheels. For a car going forward, the animation curves are going up.
@@digicreatures1945 I've already activated 'Wheels on Y axis'. But it turns the wrong way and very slowly. So I thought a negative values might help solve the problem. But it didn't. Also all my scales are applied. So I removed all rigs and did again with naming convention method. But my wheels seem to move to another location. So I rigged it manually. Now everything seems okay and it turns in the right direction. But the rotation seems a bit off.
I've used this add-on before and it worked perfectly right back then.
Thanks for your reply though 😘. I'll try baking the rotation and see if that helps.
does not show car tyers please guide me fast
