    I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

      Depends on where you live. In California any purchase under $1500 has to pay sales tax. That can add an additional 8%-11% on top of ridiculous high premium on fractional. If you are spending $1500 might as well save and buy 1oz at 7% premium instead of 1/10 or 1/4 at more than 20% premium.

    Also to keep in mind is that sales tax requirements vary from state to state. For example, here in California any single invoice purchase over $1500.00 is exempt from sales tax which depending on the city and county where you live could save you between 7.25-10.75%.

    For someone looking at purchasing Gold this is a great introduction. It is easy to want to just jump in and buy everything you can, when in reality you can benefit from starting slow. First and foremost, identify the primary reason you are looking to purchase gold. That should heavily influence where you should begin and it will help maximize your potential for reaching your goal sooner.

    Another excellent video! You mention passing your gold to your kids. I plan to do the same. I would just like to add that when my boys come to visit, I make a point of showing them my latest purchases so they have an idea of what I have. I have taken them with me to some coin shops and they watched me make purchases (and walk away if the price isn't right). While there, I ask the shop owners questions about what they pay for a particular coin or bar, the differences between, what they like to buy and what they don't. I do this so my boys will "see" how it is done and take some of the mystery out of it. I have a spreadsheet that has all the info about the coins as well as business cards from local dealers and info from online dealers. My hope is that when I am gone, they will have an idea of what they have and how to best liquidate if need be.

    There are a lot of people that are new to Gold investing. I mean more than I have seen in 20 years. I go to three local coin shops at least once a week. I run into these new investors that are apprehensive and frankly scared. I try to boost their confidence in a gold purchase, and then direct them to your Channel. I enforce the premise that you are not a pumper trying to sell gold for their own profit, where a lot of channels are.
    Thank you for the level-headed advice that you give to so many. A lot of them are truly scared, at least the informed ones are. A voice of reason in times of uncertainty is very comforting and rewarding.

    In many cases buying 1/10oz & 1/4oz Gold Eagles, or Maple Leafs is more liquid. Meaning they are often easier to sell if need be. Fact is not all coin shops can pull out $1800-$2000 cash to buy 1oz Eagles. However, it's a lot easier for them to hand out $200 or $500 on 1/10oz's or 1/4oz's pieces. Also, I never recommend buying 1/2oz's because its still right around $1000, so being that close its better if you can to buy the 1oz, or two 1/4oz sizes. I think the best single coin is the 1/4oz Eagle its really right in the sweet spot. Happy Stacking!!!

    Thanks for another excellent video. I’ve made 3 mistakes when I started buying outside of numismatics. My first gold purchases were several 1oz. RCM gold bars, (unaware of the drawbacks) my second was generic gold rounds from gold line (premium prices for a not so premium product). I was able to recover from these mistakes with trades. My third was generic silver products. Traded away the majority of generic silver rounds and bars keeping only 50 10oz. Germania mint bars (love these).Yes if your simply going for weight there is nothing wrong with gold bars and generic gold if the premium is in line with the purchase. At the time I didn’t consider ease of resale or tax ramifications as a part of my exit strategy. Now I’m very aware and have accordingly purchased only specific products.

    Thanks, I needed to see this! I started out buying gold without much direction and ended up with a hodgepodge of bars and coins of different sizes and from different mints. I paid too much attention to spot prices and premiums. It makes for a fun collection but I agree it most likely will be more difficult for me or someone else to sell, especially in bulk when needed. Concentrating now on Eagles and Maples.

    I just want to make an addendum to what you said about gold should not be sold in stores for its stamped price. You are correct in that. However, a number of states have passed legislation to allow gold to be traded for good and services at its weight (although I doubt they’ll give you change in gold as well). Check your state laws for more information about how this system works in your state.

    Thanks. Starting out I stuck with 1/10 AGEs. Branched to Maples and Britannias. Then a Kookaburra, Lunar & Kangaroo. Then started collecting Liberty Head Eagles. As opportunities arose I picked up a 1 oz Buffalo, AGE & Britannia. Picked up a St. Gaudens Double Eagle as a birthday present. A few half oz AGEs, some more pre-33 here and there. This year I’m focusing on 1/4 oz, primarily AGEs but have found a couple Half Eagles and picked up a Britannia. Overall there is a plan, even if it seems a bit whimsical.

    Always watch (and listen) to hear your opinion on Gold issues, forecasts, thoughts, and plans, BUT the real reason I watch is to see your display of satiny, buttery Gold coins. They hypnotize, and mesmerize me, as well as encourage me to continue to add more to my own savings account. After all, why would I put my hard earned dollars into a savings account, where the bank can lend it out to someone else, and make money (interest) off my hard work, while they pay me a few pennies for doing so. Coming into a little inheritance soon, and getting ready to snatch up some more Eagles 🦅. Definitely going to add some full 1 ounce coins, and looking to find some good deals, and waiting for a bit more of a dip in the spot price, say around sub $1,800. Anyways, thanks again 2 is 1 for your indirect encouragement. 😊

    I buy my Gold (online) from Walmart, and they transact with all of the most well known dealers. The reason I buy from Walmart is that they let you pay with a credit card (with no fee) and
    have free shipping. I use my Synchrony Premier 2.2% cash back card, so I get my 1 oz. Maples for only 1.7% over spot - I haven't found a better deal ANYWHERE else. I just bought 8 - 1oz.
    Maples, which was shipped from APMEX in only 3 days, and I'll be buying another 20 0zs. before the end of this year. I'll be buying a good amount of 90% U.S. coins locally, as I can get it
    for only 8% over Spot.
    Als0, Walmart has their 1 coin price as low as the 100+ coin price with other online dealers.

    I am really worried about the current bank crisis. If a bank as big as SVB could fail, I fear for a lot more. I know a friend who is running a high-growth startup, and was badly hit by the bank run. I have pulled out more than $340k from my bank. After all, the FDIC covers only up to$250,000, and the implosion could have bad effect. Looking to invest into the stock market now. Does anyone know how I could go about it?

      @Erinmills98 Před rokem +4

      We underestimate the fact that banks are corporate entities also governed by greed. Since 2020, the banks have been over-leveraging their assets, which was one of the reasons for SVB's implosion. I have never been okay with keeping much money in the bank. I simply invest through my financial advisor, collect my profits, which I then spend.

    Some great info, especially for newer stackers but it's good to refresh the knowledge and I like just listening to your rational thinking. I do take a look at spot at least once a day so if we have a big pull back I can be ready to pull the trigger but what I've noticed lately with the pull backs, like right now on Bullion Exchange they're saying they're sold out of quarter oz and half oz eagles because they don't want to sell it at a loss. The price for a half would be 995 and a quarter at 519 if you could buy it. I understand why they do it but It's a little irritating. It's not like they don't make enough 95% of the year to make up for the losses.

    To me, the first thing to remember is that this is the LONG game. I know it's all relative to the times, but I wish I would have started out in 1/4 OZ gold Eagles instead of the silver I was buying. But, I still hold it all. Watch where you live as, gold bars and other nation's coins will have lower premiums to buy, but, they may be taxed when you sell. My plan is to buy silver and gold while it's relatively cheap (in comparison with equities and housing which are still on their highs) and then later, when they switch to sell when they are low. Long game, can't reiterate enough.

    I find coin shops generally add a higher premium than on-line. Tell them you would prefer to buy from them and ask if they will match on-line prices.
    Speaking of premiums, I also find, the higher the spot price, the higher the premium becomes. Within a week, our local coin dealer increased their cost $25 for gold Eagles. Why? Did their overhead increase? Did the cost of minting increase? No! They want a 6% profit margin. So when the spot price increased, they increased their premium to match 6%.

    • @ra1der5
      @ra1der5 Před rokem +1

      @@DrSchor No need to be rude. Yes, there are educated people watching CZcams.
      Coin dealers are very much like auto dealerships. Their premiums have always been negotiable. Get to know your dealer. Make your face known to them. Soon they’ll be pulling out their “secret stock” and work with you on cost. If not, your dealing with the wrong person.
      But hey, if you want to pay a 6% premium instead of 3%-4%, be my guest.
