    The problem for most of the bigger teams is the Springboks have the biggest strength in depth upfront, and the backline is now firing and ready to go. The legs are there for the rush defence with Damian Willemse, Andre Esterhuizen, Canaan Moodie, Jesse Kriel and Libbok. Ireland, New Zealand, and France are gonna have to fight to the death for the full 80.

      It would be more interesting if the team strenghts in the pools were more equibly distributed. That way, all top teams have a chance of making it into the finishing four positions. This way, a 5th or 6th rated team, through luck, could play in the semi's. WR cocked up badly here.

      It's the bias that media and rugby world in general have had against the power game. People want to see flash on their televisions. But the reality is, the Boks way has had huge success. They have won three world cups playing the power game. England won a world cup in 2003 playing a similar style. There are many ways to skin a cat, you don't need to throw the ball about to please the spectators to win tournaments which is what really matters.

      What we saw on Friday with the overturned tries of Moodie and Jordan is the new way of doing things. TMO watching a hawkeye view in the booth and checking pretty much everything. If they keep doing that with minimal stoppages then we might have a solution here to a very old problem.

    • @garrymack
      @garrymack Před 8 měsíci +2

      @Karma-qt4ji it always seems to happen in order to overturn a try. WR continue to make the refereeing the biggest deciding factor in the match which is idiotic.

    • @Karma-qt4ji
      @Karma-qt4ji Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@garrymack That's intentional - they check the lead up to tries to ensure that everything was legit, knowing full well that this is where the controversy happens. I think they deserve a small amount of credit for trying to minimise controversy because that is the biggest thing ruining rugby in the recent past. They keep a constant check on foul play, forward passes, offsides and a host of other potential infringements and have a voice in the refs ear whenever necessary in the same way as the assistant referees do.
      We saw this in cricket years ago - at home on our couches, we had a better view of the action than the umpires on the field did and they made mistakes. Technology was introduced and things improved dramatically - let's hope that happens in rugby. If we can get to a level playing field in terms of the application of the law, then there is a better chance that the best team will win the game.

    • @garrymack
      @garrymack Před 8 měsíci

      @Karma-qt4ji I don't agree with how it's basically determined to be foul play before it's sent to the on-field referee.
      I'm glad they have something but on the on field referee and the referral to him needs tidying up. Scott Barretts second yellow card offense was for direct contact with the head on Friday but they didnt even check for it at the time, hense he's been let off by the judiciary now but christ that changed the game dramatically.
      Crickets DRS is great but only because the thresholds for out and not out are super precise. I wish rugby could get to that point.

    Hate to break it to you but rugby is a physical game, this constant nonsense about South Africa being power++ is the reason that they can run rings around the best teams in the world, when it matters. Saying that Ireland can handle them because we beat them at home once is ignoring how average Ireland were yesterday against Samoa. We were lucky to win that while the Springboks absolutely destroyed the All Blacks and NZ were poor because the Boks forced mistakes and placed their backline players in the way, cutting off the wide play. Based on the games this weekend (so far, France and Aus are yet to play) there is not one Northern Hemisphere team that looks prepared and ready for the WC. The truth is that we need to face up and man up, no team has ever won the WC by being anything but physical! Eat your oats boys ;-)

    Fiji had to change its coach recently when Vern Cotter resigned. He rarely stepped foot in Fiji over the more than 3 years he was coach. Simon Raiwalui was given the job for this world cup at short notice.
    The Fiji Rugby Union is currently being run by "temporary" leadership as the previous management have been removed for apparent mismanagement.
    While the new coaching team is doing an excellent job; shout out should go to the senior players like Nayacalevu, Radradra, Botia, Mata and co. For keeping the team together.

    I'm English and Irish, Ireland need to just forget about the favorites tag and just play to their capacity because they can be upset if they hold back and worry about the pressure of not winning the WC while being number 1 ranked, France is the favorite. England need to just accept that they are a dark horse and the best they can hope for is an upset of the top 4 nations. At the end of the day it's about Fiji, for them to win at Twickenham is Legendary. The big problem with England is blue collar tough minded people don't play the game there, they look down on it as a posh game and truth is those posh men are not the strongest willed English people, we need more Mike Brown types who came from the public school system.

A new tournament will start come the quarters and it will be who can win 3 games in a row. As a South African, gave to acknowledge that Ireland and France have been the only teams to win consistently over the past 18 months.

    I made this predictions when the Boks lost at Mount Smart. I said that would be the strongest nz will get because they showed all their cards. SA didn't and it clearly showed. I'm still very critical of Nienaber and Rassie and how their selection process has been pathetic but Friday they got it spot on. All you nz fans are saying that "its easy to beat a team that had 2 yellow cards and a red card" We were dominating you since the whistle blew and at one stage it was 14 v 14 and we still dominated.
    All you fan boys were raving about "jason ryan has made us a strong pack and unstoppable". He was doing these things illegally and got away with it for a year and a half. @TASanalytics pointed out a video where nz forwards drop their knee in the scrums, engage early when defending mauls and shifting the mauls illegally but ayy YOU GOT EXPOSED. No wonder you guys has the "best maul defense" for a year and half. Also, what's with your players jumping in when ever the opposition goes over the line? you trying to block all camera angles so the TMO cant make a decision? you guys are too predictable and that's why we read all your off loads on Friday. I would be more concerned with who is in charge of the whistle out there and the TMO influence. The first 2 penalties were clear but many were 50/50 and if that is the standard of umpiring at the RWC23 then there will be more 100-minute games due to the officials, not very entertaining, and will be a poor spectacle. No doubt that the SA performance was good and the 7-1 split on the bench shows how SA intends to play, no surprises there, and that is all they have, easy for backs to run off a solid forward pack. Can SA play that game again and again into the quarters and maybe semis? Match up any other team against SA with 13-14 players for 40 minutes plus and what would the scoreline be? Ireland is looking good and will probably make the semis.

      Boks weren't interested in winning at MT Smart either. We saw that as a warm up hence we sent our starting XV to go on a vacation there, a week prior.

      Cope!! Record loss for the ABs. This game was about momentum and peaking to be on world cup form...ABs wanted to win this game so they can have momentum to face france...ghey olayed their strongest team anf got battered even harder by the boks.

      When it was 15 on 15 the boks put the ABs underpdessure hence the yellow cards came, Boks game plan is about using every opportunity to put teams under pressure. Thats why the Springboks continously kicked to the corner. They saw a weekness in the ABs game and attacked that weakness...the cant defend a maul legally. Springboks targeted them and made it impossible for them to infrimge so the boks forced the ABs to play legally and put every form of foul or cynical play out of the ABs game early. High rugby IQ from the boks.

      What I don't understand is the fact that it is only South Africa that are catching and punishing drug cheats. According to a UKADS report from 2019, there are over a million steroid users in the UK of which only 56% are considered to be doing it for 'body image', Wales has a clean needle clinic *exclusively* for steroid users, Scotland have had the occasional errr mishap with Craig Chalmers son being one of the ones caught, Ireland's James Cronin was "given the wrong prescription" by the NHS pharmacy and it just so happened to have a banned substance in it; he, like Australia's Ben Tune, was only banned long enough for the substance to no longer be traceable in his system - one month ban and he never missed a game. Imagine SA pulling that one with Apiwe Dyantyi.... we'd be back in isolation faster than the words stopped echoing around the room!
      A BBC report less than two months ago spoke of the issues with drugs in UK sport, focusing specifically on boxing though, and another article told of the ready availability of illegal muscle drug Sarms. I am focusing on the UK side of things because I live there, but this is not local to Europe and SA, it is worldwide. So why are only South Africans making the headlines?
