    As a South African, have to give it to both Ireland and France. NZ, it goes without saying. Ireland are the only team at the minute that worry me. They're shrewd and hold onto the ball more than anyone in the world at the minute. SA, although resolute in defense, are more than capable of moments of magic and brilliance. I know what South Africa offer when taking the lead, and applying scoreboard pressure, but SA actually excite me too when we are chasing a game. I believe we have that in us to play from minute 1 if we really want to. That excites me, but wow, next week is going to be massive. I do believe these 2 teams will be in the final.

    Kiwi here. I agree entirely with the analysis, if it’s close or SA are ahead in the last quarter SA will win. They are the best team in the world at closing out a game.
    The challenge for Ireland is the same as it was for the ABs, make sure the micro skills are right up there, all passes must stick. If Ireland hold onto the ball for long periods in the first half, there is a big window of opportunity, just before they bring on the bomb squad, score points then and then keep the ball away from their big forwards in the second half. It can be done.
    But, I still think SA will take the day.,

    As a springbok supporter we cant deny Ireland as the top contender, they are playing magnificent rugby at the moment anyway, but it depends which side Boks pitch up on the day really. Both teams are playing and managed well, The team that makes the less mistakes and takes advantage of the others mistakes

  • @wlk2408
    @wlk2408 Před 9 měsíci +18

    This game is going to be huge. Pollard is back with the Springboks but I doubt he will play. He might be on the bench because he can cover 10, 12 and 15 and his goal kicking might be needed at the end.
    Saying that, Marx is a massive loss and Eben will most likely play of tbe bench if he is selected.
    I think Ireland is going to run on Libbok. They targeted that channel against Tonga.
    Ireland looked very impressive so far and the Springboks will have to pitch up big time for this game if they want any chance to win.

    • @daaichommie708
      @daaichommie708 Před 9 měsíci +2

      Don't think they'll be worried about Libbok. They'll be worried about how to mitigate the Bok forward pack and conserve their own forwards. One huge mistake teams do against the Boks is that they turn the forward game into a dick measuring contest. Scotland tried to match the boks physicality. They did well in the first half, but the boks are designed to batter you down. You cannot go for 60 mins with that game style and come out ontop.
      I think it's going to be a very cagy and grinding game. We can expect a similar game to that of SA vs Scotland, except I think Irelands forward pack has more depth. Either way, huge game! Feels like a proper knockout game to me. Looking forward to it.

    Ireland are the number one team in world rugby with the ball in hand. Their ball retention, passing, link play and cohesion is rock solid but they showed against Tonga how good their defence is too. Every single player knows their role. With Sexton firing on all cylinders. Furlong looking big and fit and back to his best. The backrow dynamism of POM, JVDF & Doris has zero weakness. Aki showing serious pace and terrific form atm and both wingers playing above and beyond. Sheehan & Conan to come back into the team next week. I’d imagine they’ll go with a 6/2 split with Henderson, big Joe McCarthy & Baird to come off the bench around the 60th minute mark. South Africa will be a hugely tough & physical test but I truly believe this Ireland can beat them. They just look so confident and their structures and game plan looks so strong. Come on Ireland 🇮🇪☘️💪🏻

    No disrespect to Ireland, but I have been saying for a while I believe France and Ireland peaked a year too early. While both teams are still playing well, I believe they were better last year. The Boks have been improving slowly and I think they are again peaking at the right time and their depth is incredible. Depending on how things go with injuries in the top teams, that may be a deciding factor at the end.
    Here is a thought, should SA beat Ireland this weekend, all of a sudden Scotland has something to play for against Ireland.They would need one good game to make the QFs and nerves could creep in on the day. Either way, SA vs Ireland is going to be the biggest game of the tournament thus far. No doubt Rassie and Nienaber have a few tricks up their collective sleeve. This is an earth shattering clash.
    I think the pivotal player to determine the outcome, will be Bongi Mbonambi. He has to potential to have a shocker with his throw-ins. SA gameplan is 75% dependent on well executed lineouts. From there, they get mauling, milk penalties and produce even more attacking lineouts.
    Secondly, if Mostert can neutralise Sexton like he did Russell, Ireland will be playing backwards.
    Thirdly, whoever wins the turnover battle, will have an easy 12 point advantage. Without Marx getting his usual three, it'll fall on Vermeulen, Kolisi, Kitshoff, Bongi and Kwagga to dominate

    South Africa probably wouldn't mind losing this game(without giving away any knockout plans) - but to finish 2nd and play France won't be fun. So, there is a lot to play for. Ireland has been impressive and will probably go all out they do not want to risk needing a win vs Scotland. Tonga were weak but at least gave them a physical test. South Africa will have to decide if they want Pollard to start in what could be a very tight game. SA 6- Scotland 3 at HT in week one.
    Ireland are a few levels up from Scotland and the game may be decided by the boots of Sexton vs Pollard. IT would be unfair on Libbok though -as he has gotten the backline going of late - but yeah Kolbe, De Klerk and Willemse also are not reliable kickers. Will they risk further injury to Eben by playing him? Ireland know Mbonambi will probably start as hooker and will make way for Deon Fourie (most likely in the 2nd half sometime) that will be a key opportunity to disrupt the Bok Setpiece regardless of how good the other forwards are. Hopefully no cards spoil what will be the tie of Week 3
