- We continue to look for the best Fish & Chips in Porthcawl.
This time it’s the turn of Mansel’s Chippy on the Eastern Promenade and we eat them on the sunny but ‘windy’ Coney Beach.
Apologies for the wind noise in this video but hopefully you can hear us. It was windier than we thought.
So, it’s the turn of Mansel’s Chippy which is only a few yards from the entrance to the fairground and opposite Salt Lake Car Park. As with all the other Porthcawl chip shop visits we are ordering the same thing Fish (cod) & Chips and a curry sauce (Irish Curry).
The fish was cooked to order and they did offer lemon and tartar sauce. While we were waiting they also offered us a free ‘tea or coffee’.
Mansel’s Chippy does have offers on certain days of the week and we mention one of them in the video. I would check their Facebook page to see what there is when you visit

Well done again both, happy that the weather was better at last.
We usually go to Mansel's and find them really good and consistent also just a quick walk to Griffin park with lots of seats in the sun.
I am sure that even though it is still February, if there was no lockdown you would have had more company on the beach on a sunny day.
A good offer from Mansel's on the meal for two. I suspect I can travel the few miles for a takeaway as long as I don't linger? or at least let's hope the travel restrictions are over before the offer :-)

Thanks, it was nice to have some sunny weather. It wasn't too cold either. We've got a few more to try but at the moment we would recommend any of them.
Nice One! - I goto Mansels as well, I often sit out on the seats they have there to enjoy the grub! Mind you, I've not tried the fish there yet but will take care of that when I visit next time! :-)

Very nice video, now I definitely want to eat some fish and chips :) it reminds me of the time when I went to England on a bus trip with school, and had fish n chips on the beach in Brighton :) good times. Hope I will find some fish & chips here in Benidorm as well!

I used to go to Porthcawl regularly but it's many years since I visited Mansel's.I'll have to give them a go after lockdown as that meal looked delicious.You're so posh with your knives and forks in Porthcawl though Lol.
It was pretty nice, good to have some sun too. Yes, very posh with our silverware.

I'm from Porthcawl, we went there back in December when I was home in UK from Saudi. My daughter got dive-bombed by the Seagulls after her chips... which was entertaining. Mansel's is a great chippy but to be fair there aren't any bad ones in the Town but that's just my opinion. Love your videos guys, keep shooting

Spent a lot of time over the years metal detecting Coney, lots of ring pulls, bottle tops etc, no chips though. If you like curry sauce as do I, get yourself to B&Ms they do mayflower chinese curry sauce in powder form for a pound.

I must admit I’ve never tried this fish and chip shop,looks nice.Did you weigh yourselves before the program started you’ll be a few stone heavier by the finish.Always makes me feel hungry watch you two.Great show.
Weight, I think all bets are off during lockdown anyway. We testing chips for essential research purposes.

We felt cruel not giving the dog any but I think he's a professional chip scrounger, he didn't look that thin.

When me and the misses take a ride to Porthcawl we have either have savloy or large sausage in batter with chips always from Finnigan's on New RD.
We'll be going there soon. Mel fancies a sausage but has to stick to the fish & chips for the videos.

That's an awesome looking beach - is it good in summer? Or is it a bit muddy like Weston Super mare? Hard to tell from vid. I know nowt about porthcawl, would love a bit more of a tour by the area..

Mansels is my favourite chippy in porthcawl,we went to beales and they were rude to us so we never returned.

We don't really get a lot of US food over here or if we do it's not very good. Mel loves the steaks in America.
cracking video , nice chip shop that one havent been there for a long time , me and the wife will now be taking fork and tomato sauce from now on when we r allowed back out after lockdown !!!!

That’s a really good portion ,a free coffee or tea ,hand wipes etc very good ,I think those boxes must be universal ,no more newspaper although I have seen paper that the fish chips are wrapped in printed with a newspaper print ,do you live on the coast? I used to and miss it so much ,now live 60 miles inland ,
No more newspaper although they do sometimes have chip shop paper made to look like the old newspaper wrappers. Yes, we live by the sea which we have been grateful for over the past year.
