To compare "zoom" capabilities look at the focal length in 35mm equivalent. This camera is 3000mm Focal Length in 35mm equivalent. Quality optics for DSLR that go this far are very expensive, you can buy a small car kind of expensive. That said the sensor is in the compact travel zoom category with 1/2.3" sensor size and derided by photo experts as a "cell phone sized sensor".
Maxheadroom1980 agree, while sensor is not capable of driving “professional” level still image quality it is still adequate for daily snaps in good light, what this sensor is capable of is delivering excellent stable 4K video, add to that an impressive zoom lens and you have a good video capable camera.
Edward T. There is only one lens available to the public that is longer that I know of. Many years ago Canon made a 5,200mm f14 full frame lens that had a list price of around $45,000 It weighed 100kg. There were less than 6 made and were probably bought by spy agencies or military. I am unaware of any being sold on the used market, however, Canon’s 1200mm lens was much smaller and it is believed that about 20 were made. Asking price was originally about $20,000. Some of them have sold used, the last one (in New York) is believed to have sold for $120,000 so I expect if the 5,200mm lens ever came up for sale, that it would fetch more than that. Probably quite a lot more. In summary, yes, there is at least one longer lens made in the past, but cost and weight means that it is not an option for us mere mortals :) So the P1000 is the king of affordable long lenses.
Oil petrol profits have served this city well. Why do all those buildings look the same? Does anyone live or work in them? When you zoom that camera in on the stars you'll be questioning reality.

If you remove the infrared blocker from your camera and put in a 950nm infrared filter, you will be able to shoot at a much greater distance.
