Which ITALIAN ACCENT should you learn? (with Davide from Podcast Italiano)

We discussed his life, work and the Italian language, specifically how to sound like a native speaker and which Italian accent one should learn.

Native English speaker here. I always find it slightly disorientating when second language speakers use a distinct regional accent. For example there used to be a number of Scandinavian players with Liverpool FC who spoke with a broad Scouse accent. But because it's never 100% right, it just ends up sounding a bit weird. Surely better to try and pick up a neutral accent - and more practical too, as Davide points out, unless you are actually living in the area. Because your beginner materials will be voiced by trained actors, and your intermediate materials will be in a variety of accents.
And in any case, I'm not all that convinced that a native accent is necessary or even desirable. With English, many foreign accents sound charming to our ears!
With my Italian, despite my efforts any native knows within moments that I'm British. But I'm often told that I'm easy to understand - one old lady said how nice it was to hear someone speak clearly, while the young people all mumble these days! That's surely the main thing - to be easy to understand?

Ti rispondo in italiano, perchè tu lo stai imparando da quello che ho capito. Secondo me in italiano non è una buona idea studiare materiale con una vari accenti, perchè l'italiano standard è quello usato universalmente, considerato corretto e di maggior prestigio. Gli accenti regionali, anche a livello scolastico, non vengono visti di buon occhio ed alcuni non vengono compresi neanche dagli italiani stessi. Il miglior italiano lo trovi nei film doppiati e nei telegiornali. I doppiatori parlano un italiano straordinario. Il ragazzo in questione, Davide, ha qualche problema di pronuncia con la "S" e con la cadenza/ritmo, che lo rendono abbastanza noioso. Non ti consiglio di prenderlo come esempio. Un trentina di anni orsono c'era ancora la distinzione tra scuola romana e scuola fiorentina, oggi con l'avvento dei media, il modo di parlare l'italiano corretto si è abbastanza definito.
