    • @EducationPineapple
      @EducationPineapple  Před rokem

      These washers sometimes look perfect and still leaks, but a change of a new washer stops the leaks, so popping the bubble is unlikely to stop the leak.

    Great video, thanks. I have this problem but when I removed the inner section the washer stayed in the base. Looking at your video, the cap that holds the washer in place is missing from mine. Assumed it's been flushed. Are they known to break off? I'm assuming also I'll need to buy the complete new value mechanism.

    • @EducationPineapple
      @EducationPineapple  Před 7 měsíci

      The cap must have been missing from a previous person's effort...I cannot see the cap breaking off as it is very tough plastic. The cap needs to be there to flatten the seal, but also to add weight to the plunging mechanism. To save money try to change only the seal, maybe use a cable tie to lock it in and see if it stay on well without falling out. If it does stay on, I would wrap some heavy lead soldering wire above on the shaft to add weight. If it does fall off then click on one of the links in the description...the whole unit including the inlet valve is only £36 on one of the links. Good luck.

    @zzalsjes Před rokem

    Thanks for the video. I have the same central flush unit. When you replace the cap over the washer (~6:50) you seemed to just plonk it on any old how & it easily snapped on. Mine is more difficult even with a lot of force. Did you have to align the 4 protrusions on the inside shaft of the cap with the 4 grooves on the shaft & then pull it on? You didn't seem to twist it on but getting it off did twist it before finally prising off with a screwdriver. Probably one of those things that you don't think about too much once you've done it a few times. Appreciate any advice - Cheers!

    • @EducationPineapple
      @EducationPineapple  Před rokem

      Yes you have to align the notched, push in then twist. You should try to clean all limescale off with a toothbrush...also apply a bit of vaseline or even some soap or detergent to help lubricate.

      I have been doing research non stop on this this past month. Absolutely new models from the shop leaked. The mechanism is inherently flawed and will always leak if you test it. Go with an old style siphon mechanism. New tech isn't necessarily better.

      Hello for dripping taps on modern systems, please watch this video czcams.com/video/DRL6gH_qxJM/video.html
      May I suggest that the other two parts (base of cistern flush unit that fits onto the bowl and water inlet valve) are not changed for a leaky cistern that leaks into the bowl. My philosophy is to do the simplest fixes first. So in other words, change the middle unit that I am holding and see if that fixes your problem before looking elsewhere. Take care to re-watch the whole video noting especially where the two halves come together, and matching the four tabs firstly.

      Make sure rim that washer sits on is free of limescale...use nylon toothbrush only to clean or your finger nails. Take whole fush assembly out and soak in dish washer descaler...coil some sodering lead wire around the base (I used about 6 coils) of the shaft above where the washer plunger is to add weight to give a better seal. All of that should do it.

      @EducationPineapple  Před rokem

      Did you have a new rubber or silicon seal as well. The plastic device alone without a new rubber seal will not work. If it did come with a new seal, I would take it apart and change the existing seal for another one. Some times new parts can be damaged too. Imagine the part sitting in a box sideways resting on a shelf for years. The seal would become bent. Also make sure the lip of the hole in the toilet where the seal eventually sits on has been clean of all of its limescale with a soft tooth brush, or use your nails to gently clean.
