I love it when you both do the repair, Jan asks all the questions I would have asked.
She loves to help where she can.
Absolutly love this format of amature and pro Q&A asking all the questions we usually would and other videos don't cover. Brilliant video and great guide to fix this very common issue!
+adzthewise . Thanks, we was not sure about making videos in this format, your comments have inspired us to make some more in this style. Jan and Al.
What a great idea! A cistern inlet stop valve. I need one of those desperately! Or maybe I have one. I doubt it though. Thank dereton33! Great video.
Great way of demonstrating how to fix a problem. Having someone ask questions on your behalf and not assuming previous experience.
Brilliant video, very helpful and I was able to fix the problem myself quickly and easily. (I just needed to clean some gunge off the seal). Loved the format which gave me the confidence to have a go. It was a revelation to me that you can turn the water off at the toilet rather than rummaging through the cupboard under the sink! Fantastic! Thank you both.
No problem Alex.
Brilliant video, all fixed in less than 10 minutes without having to call a plumber. Thank you!!
Excellent!
Love these videos - all great & allows/teaches us to fix things ourselves. Thanks to you all!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for saving me a massive water bill, Brilliant video ,I was able to turn the water off to the cistern immediately .
No problem Patricia.
Thanks 🙏 for this video omg 😲 2 weeks of pain water flow and it took a second to turn the screw wow problem fixed amazing
Cheers so much from Essex! Love your channel and Plumberparts UK. Both my go to plumber channels. V helpful.
Thanks Kate, we both try our best.
love the way you do these videos. The lady has asked a number of questions in these videos where the plumber would not think of explaining and the answers have helped me thank you
No problem.
Great video. The lady asked all the questiosn I probably would and more.
Nice format.
Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Only 112k subs!! This is THE place I go to for my needs. A proper legend, keep up your great and informative tutorials.
Thank you.
Happy to help! Thanks Craig.
Very useful video, I've put and end to the constant hissing that was coming from my toilet. The house is so peaceful now, thanks!
No problem.
8:00 They tend to go for a biggie...! Even though I have dire problems with my loo, pan blocked and cistern started to leak at same time, that just really made me laugh! You're a true gentleman for putting up these great videos.
Ha ha thanks Dave.
I'm a complete amateur at DIY but have been attempting to revamp my bathroom. So far by watching Als videos I have managed to fit a new towel rail and cure a constantly running toilet
So thankful Al for the advice and money you've saved me.
All you people out there that want to find fault need to have a rethink.
Thanks Les for your kind comments.
Nice video guys - gave me the confidence to get it fixed! Turns out we live in a hard water area and it was the build-up of limescale where the washer is supposed to seal that was allowing the water to trickle through. Thanks guys!
No problem.
Andrew Hawkins m x
a soak with warm water and vinegar is good for dissolving limescale.
Thanks for the video. This was very helpful. After watching the video I was able to shop for the part I needed and replace the part following your advice. Thanks!
No problem Jennifer.
Very helpful!! So simple. Turned the unit as indicated, debris under the rubber seal, cleaned it out, re fitted, water stopped running.
Took 10 minutes if that. Marvellous!
No problem.
Although the constant dripping into the bowl was a nuisance, the big problem was the awful noise it made ,removed the siphon body with a quick twist , and flipped over the rubber seal , Problem solved , no more leaks and the horid noise had stopped .
Great video , I am going to take a look tomorrow at mine and follow all the steps ,
Hopefully won't need to replace the unit just the washer but this video now has given me a heads up of what to look for
Thank you
No problem.
Totally brilliant! This is how to do a CZcams How To. Dereton33 is the Man for these instructional vids; always gentle, always precise and....always right!
Modern toilet design is not perfect, being totally plastic....made worse in hard water areas. These vids help the DIY person to get by design flaws. Proper job!
Thanks for your kind comments Firebrand55
A clear and concise videofix - A BIG thank you from Cornwall, England.
No problem knower.
Well done! Excellent job and so clearly explained! Thankyou. Take care xxx
+Jessamy Goddard . Thanks Jessamy. Jan.
Toilet fixed - thanks to you guys. Mine had to be twisted anti-clockwise to get out and when I put it back I realised that it had not been fitted straight so when tightened looked crooked. Maybe that is why it was leaking as the plumber did not turn it fully til it clicked and it gradually started coming out. Glad I did not need a new part. Great how you give extra information during your videos. Thanks again.
No problem Cheryl.
Fixed mine due to this video after days of constant loud running water! Thank you so much
You're welcome!
This leak was causing my pump to short cycle. Swapped out the valve, and all sorted. Wouldn't have tried it without your vids so thanks!!
Glad it helped
Absolutely clear and simple, excellent explanations with questions and answers
Thanks.
Excellent video. Answers questions that the other videos don't. Well done
I appreciate that!
Fab love the Q&A lay person v pro style of your vid 👌🤩 Thank you I have two loo's doing this in a house I just bought both look exactly like yours I may attempt it myself but if I fail at least I know what to ask the plumber for ! Great stuff
Good on you for having a go.
Thank you for the video. I never knew how to remove the syphon. Once I did I could remove all the grit from the burst "water saving" bag the water company provided. Ironic really as it caused my toilet to run. Cheers fella.
Some ideas are just not thought out properly, i remember those damm bags, threw mine straight away.
Thanks. You saved me $100 and made me try my first plumbing work!!
No problem
Great video AL. My toilet started leaking between the tank and the pan on the donut ring and thanks to your videos i fixed it easily without any problems. One thing i did notice thou and its related to this video is that on my flush system it has a small pipe from the fill valve that connects into the overflow pipe. When you flush this tiny pipe continues to pump water into the overflow until the fill valve shuts off. This seems stupid to me but it does it deliberately to keep the pan full to prevent any sewer smells coming. Wastes water but worth mentioning
+track nut (Gamesman) . Yes it is quite normal.
Just wanted to say thank you for a clear explanation. Really helpful
You're very welcome!
Great Video , fixed my problem. Thanks !
No problem.
Fixed mine, thank you.
Really helpful and sorted my cistern problem. Thank you!
No problem Nicholas.
So useful, thanks for this tutorial - it has guided me through step-by-step how to fix my toilet - works perfectly again now, cheers! :-)
No problem.
Brilliant video.....just saved me calling out a plumber and enabled me to solve the problem in just two minutes....withythis video I could have spent the whole day and still not figured it out!
No problem.
Great video, thanks! I had the same problem. I didn't know the mechanism could twist out so easily.
No problem.
just solved my flush problem after watching this video
Top man, helped me sort out a dripping Roca cistern.
Thanks Chris.
Perfect. 45 minutes from diagnosis to CZcams to Screwfix to solution!
No problem.
well done guys your tutorial came very handy!!
No problem.
A very good video. Thank you
Really useful - lots of confusing advice out there, but this is very clear.
Thanks.
Brilliant .. saved me $$$ in Australia .. thanks a bunch from down under!
No problem Melody. Wish we had your weather.
@@dereton33 Haha .. is quite hot here so not sure you would love it! By the way, I learnt quite a bit from your video but the leak did not stop after a washer change .. I thought it did but started again .. I guess it a replacement of the siphon job! .. back to the hardware store for me .. meanwhile I just turn the external water valve on and off to fill the cistern as otherwise one would be wasting water 24x7! You seem lovely and take care.
All the best Melody.
Did I hear you say West Auckland - Te Atatu South FTW ;-)
Your wife played the straight person very well - asked all the right questions.
OK, probably due to being a fairly new cistern the slots were to the side, rather than middle, of the push buttons. The main body was held in place by a couple of clips at the bottom that were easily released (if you don't have big workman's hands like I do, and the sealing grommet (the whole body, actually) was different but the seal could be easily pulled out and re-inserted upside down - there was a barely noticable mark on the sealing side, maybe 10 thou' deep but evidently enough to allow some leakage.
It was a very small leak, heard rather than seen, but it is now fixed and this clip got me pulling finger and actually doing it - less than 5 minutes total :-)
Great video sorted my problem. couple of points to note. The water supplied to the toilet may be from the tank in the loft and turning the mains off (if you don't have a isolation valve) won't stop it filling, probably need to find a gate valve to shut it off. Some siphon units have clips at the bottom that need to be pressed simultaneously then pulled up to remove. Mine was leaking into the plan because of those blue tabs that go in the cistern so they clean your toilet bowl as you flush. Alot of scaling had built up this was getting caught under the rubber seal (shown in the video) when I flushed!
Thanks for your info Kevin.
dereton33 no problem. Really enjoy your videos helped me out numerous times!
thanks; good video;helped solving overflow; thousands of thanks
No problem.
A total pain in the butt, these push button flushes. What pig invented them? Thanks for the great video. Same happened with me but worst still, if you get a toilet blockage at the same time!
Another great video Al - ably assisted by Jan - Thanks!
+1954BJohn . Thanks John.
Thanks both of you; made (and very well received) for the lay men and women up and down this fine land :-)
Our pleasure!
@@dereton33 ...and I fixed my cistern too straight after watching! Thanks again 🤗
I'm not a plumber... But after saw your video, i become a plumber, and solve my house toilet running water problem. Thanks. KANNAN, INDIA
No problem Ramu.
Thank you Sir

Thanks - exactly what I was looking for ... clear and easy to follow ... off now to mend the toilet!
Thanks
@@dereton33 ... and it’s all sorted, it was a worn silicon seal ... I’d have bought a new unit if I’d not watched your video. Thanks again for your help - have a good weekend
Good advice again. I also like the idea of having Jan ask questions, giving us "newbies" an extra insight. I'll be tackling ours ASAP thanks to this video. Keep up the good work :)
No problem James, good luck with it.
Great little video. Well done and appreciated.
Thanks Jim.
Cheers for the handy vid guys, I can now add "fixing toilets" to my list of DIY jobs
No problem.
Thanks
Spot on ordered part fitted it no problem thanks loads saved me tons of dosh
No problem Chris.
Thank you so much for your video, as soon as you said there's a screw to turn the water off i was relieved from that constant noise. I had a little look inside and realised the toilet blu was stuck under my flapper i believe lol. Moved it over screwed the flush button back, tirned the water back on and what do you know i feel like a pro. Problem fixed!👍🏼
That`s great.
Went for a leak and found a leak! Haha. Great explanation. The rubber washer in our flushing appears to have gotten “bubbles” and it may be a case that this is causing a poor seal and allowing water to still run in the toilet. Cheers!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for showing the cistern problem.!
No problem!
Great video loved how jan asked valuable questions really well explained,my cistern was different but video helped thankyou ❤

No problem Jacob.
This just helped me at silly o'clock thanks 😄
No problem.
Nice one Jan👍
+jason mc cann . Thanks. Jan.
I love this video and it’s so easy to understand. Unfortunately mine just can’t be turned because the pump is screwed too tight to the bottom. I tried to twist it left and right but with no such luck !!
That was great!! Thanks so much. 😀
You are so welcome!
Very informative video. i am going to try fix mine after watching this video.

I didn't know I could turn off the water with a screwdriver, I've been turning it off via the stopcock while I try to fix it...thanks for the help and I'm not even 4 minutes into your video!
Glad I could help
Love this
Thanks .
Hi great video
Great video - thank you :)
Glad it was helpful!
well done I'm going to have a go.
Well done Jack, give it a go.
It only works had all green gunk on the rubber seal cleaned it job done. Thanks.
@dereton33 thank you for a great informative video. Quick question, my toilet is similar to one in video and continues to flush but just has a very small trickle of water running. Should I follow same steps?
Yes the same.
In hard water areas these units tend to stick due to a build up of limescale. Soaking the unit in lime scale remover often sorts the problem.
Thanks for the tip neville.
well explained thanks
No problem.
We also have the push down buttons but they are attached to the syphon. Ours to me looks like the liquid soap systems, I am not sure whether that can be repaired. I really wonder where will i get exactly the same syphon now! :( Your video at least showed me that there is a better design.
Sometimes it is better just to upgrade to a newer model.
Thanks. Really helped.
You're welcome!
