    I live in the Bahamas and our new rental home has these concealed cisterns installed. I had a few sleepless nights when the WC started to run. The plumbers here aren't familiar with these systems and they have no hesitation to grab a jackhammer and blast away. And there is no way on to match tiles and grout. Your video is perfect. I was able to fix this in minutes. It was easier than fixing a classic cistern. We have high calcification in the water here so I cleaned up the float valve and what you call siphon as you advised and all is perfect now. If you come this way you can stay in one of my rentals on me any time. Thank you!

    Dear Roger. I can’t begin to tell you how much this has helped me today. Our system is a Geberit but essentially the same and when I saw the water slowly running into the pan I was horrified it might mean a total strip out of the bathroom wall! You have considerably added to the state of human happiness in our house! Many thanks, Colin

      Hi Colin
      Thank you, I am very glad to hear it.
      I think we are all lucky to have CZcams, I have fixed a few things in my house with the help of videos.
      The fact that some plumbers start hacking off tiles is a sad indictment of their unwillingness to ask the question that took you to this video.

    Great video.
    I'm a general builder who has been trying to get a plumber to service a Villeroy and Boch concealed cistern for 2 months now.
    Have spoken to about 20 plumbers.....you mention villeroy and boch and concealed cistern and all have said not a chance.
    After watching yours and other videos, I decided to do it myself.
    It was so easy that I decided to descale all 3 concealed cisterns in the house....took 30 mins a cistern.
    Have now decided that if general plumbers are that scared of these cisterns, when I retire, I'm going to start up my own concealed cistern servicing company 😂😂😂
    Only joking....when I retire, I'll be fishing, playing golf and travelling 😀

    Nice one Roger! Mine developed a fault yesterday, water kept draining into bowl. Took everything apart quite easily thanks to your excellent video, lots of Water stone and bits of old tile plaster and such. Gave everything a clean and put it back and its working like new. NOTE: there was always a slight trickle from the cistern into bowl (causing horrible skidmark looking stain) now there no a single drop dripping into bowl. Keep up the good work Sir!

    I have got exactly the same system, but it's labelled Saneux.
    I had a plumber come and have a look and he didn't know how to do it and was talking about smashing tiles off.
    He suggested I contact the manufacturer to find out if it could be serviced through the button plate and if the parts were available.
    Your video has given me confidence to tackle it myself.

  • @masksareridiculousfourteen88

    Thank you. My cistern was a different brand but the basics were the same. I had spare parts because I had two of the same loo but didn’t end up using one when we reno’d. The flush buttons stuck, the intake going into the float had some kind of partial blockage and the water didn’t seal fully and trickled into the toilet. From a few weeks post install. The plumber left the area. Your video saved me hundreds. Champion. Not to mention I thought it may mean ripping off tiles and wall which would mean thousands. So grateful.

  • @paul756uk2
    @paul756uk2 Před 4 lety +2

    I've got a bit of a love hate relationship with these things. With the introduction of low content cisterns they needed something like this which dumps the entire contents very quickly rather than a siphon which drags the water up and over the before the siphon starts going and has a lower flow rate so you need more water to flush the pan. The advantage with those is that they couldn't leak like these new ones do. A friend of ours had a massive water bill because she didn't realise hers was leaking. It's not always easy to see the trickle of water running down the pan. Mine has a Grohe flush valve and I recently changed the head because of this but to be honest it's lasted around 14 years so can't complain. Grohe stuff is pretty good. They are reliable but you have to watch out for that trickle especially if you've got a water meter. Good videos as always.

    Thanks for another excellent Abacus video Roger! We had a wall hung Abacus cistern fitted last year, and we panicked when the unit would stick and not flush sometimes, within the week it was fitted. Turns out the float valve needed adjusting.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  Před 4 lety

      Hi Phil The fault you describe is usually because the two rods are not cut to length by the installer. If it has been fixed by the float valve adjustment that is good but it might be that when the rods went back in they were clicked in properly. No matter, if it is working leave it.

    Thanks, Rodger. You helped me to replace a broken Geberit syphon which is very similar. Someone else commented here about the plastic becoming brittle with age and that’s exactly what had happened in less than 20 years. Not the most environmentally friendly design but I agree that the whole replacement procedure was straightforward thanks to the clarity of your instructions.

I could not remove the large central part in this one so I cleaned around it as much as I could. One PROBLEM: I did discover that there is a volume of water OUTSIDE the lining! Have you seen a concealed cistern before with this problem? When the lining is empty it pushes inward due to the weight of water on the outside. It looks like a jobs for a professional...

    Geberit cistern slow filling. Internals pretty much exactly the same as in the video. Took apart, couldn't see anything. Reassembled...filling OK. No idea what the problem was. On the plate behind the button cover was a QR code linking to the Geberit maintenance PDF. This explained a couple of points that differed from the video.

    Great video but my god, I ain't having a concealed cistern any time soon, dunno why but hadn't even thought of that until now. Just how many parts eh compared with just popping the top off and done.
