    Hi Al. Had the syphon problem. Watched this vid a few times. Admittedly, a bit intimidated at first, but bit the bullet, bought the bits, rolled up my sleeves ........ Job done. Thanks so much for making and uploading this clear & concise video.

    My top tip just having done one of these: the donut washer that comes in the close coupling kit was too thick for my setup; and its curved bottom meant the cistern rocked around. The cistern then sat 3mm above where it had been before meaning the holes on the rear for the wall mounting were now above the existing holes in the wall. I needed a flatter foam donut washer which I got from a plumbers merchant - but it did mean I had to stop and go out and get one. Have a look at the washer you are replacing for guidance - of course you won't see this until you have your cistern dismantled. Get one in advance if you want to save time. They don't seem to be held by Screwfix or Toolstation (apart from a Euroflo 2" one at Screwfix which was too wide).

    Very useful. I just replaced mine. Just one rusty screw on the back and my in-line valve had seized so I had to get a new one. I had to saw through the plastic lever arm to remove it. I got a new one and had to move the handle shaft to a different lever hole to make it work with the new siphon. The new siphon is serviceable without removing the cistern so this job will be easier next time.

      Thanks. But now I’m doing the same job at my Sister’s house and it’s not going well. The builder glued the overflow pipe into the overflow stand pipe so I have had to hacksaw the overflow pipe (need to extend that). And the inlet valve needs replacing but the plastic nut on the bottom has seized/stuck with sealant (don’t need sealant there surely as the seal should be the rubber washer inside). Just applied some “silicon remover” gel to try to soften it and waiting. I have a tap back nut box spanner somewhere so will try that.

    Thanks Al for your video - replaced the syphon yesterday - as you've suggested in previous video's it can be a swine of a job. The fitting was OK thanks to this video - it was the leaking on reassembly that was causing problems. A late night trip to B&Q to get high grade sealant eventually worked.....Thanks for giving me the courage to do the job!

    :-) Just thought id give an update, Might help others. I had a comedy of errors when trying to install. Just thought id highlight some gotchas for people. 1, I did have to hacksaw off the old screws at the back. 2. The new plate I ordered, was actually a slightly different size than the old one, so did not sit right on the pan. The Dudley Turbo is rather Large! And it was a super tight fit for me and the inlet flow. I did not screw the nut on tight enough so had to redo as I had a slight leak. I then had problems with the inflow as it was leaking, I had a washer in the inlet pipe. I then went and got a new inlet flow with a brass screw, however it was too big to fit with the Dudley installed. Went and got a plastic one from B and Q but again got leaks. So, in the end, I gave up this time and called out the plumber which I had cover for and they came and installed a new system. As it was still leaking. They then mentioned the plate issue, lucky I had kept the old plate. So moral of the story make sure the cistern you have is big enough to accommodate everything. Plus one more question. The plumber mentioned I might not have needed a wash for the inlet when using a plastic pipe. Anyways, I learned loads and loads, but was glad I could get the plumbers in and get it fixed ;-) As I spent hours on it. lol.. Until the next time....then again maybe not.. haha.

    Very good vid. I am at the dismantle/cleaned up stage i.e. ready to refit. My siphon is rather tall about 12" and nowhere can i get a like for like replacement. So i have made my own flap to fit in the old siphon. However, i love the idea of not doing this job again by fitting the likes of the Turbo 88. Does it matter that i will be refitting with a less tall siphon? I hope you can see this message before i refit as i am at the stage of waiting for delivery of the coupling kit.

      @misterocain Před 4 lety

      @@dereton33 cheers for answering but none, as far as I can tell, extend to 12". Nearest I can get is 10". I am not sure if being slightly shorter (by 2") will cause a problem. The system is circa 30 years old. I will make do with what I have got and trust my flap cutting skills. Once again, very informative video. Cheers.

    I did the same thing earlier this year. My close couple kit came with the metal plate + 2 doughnuts, one was very solid rubber and I thought about using it but there was no way I could tighten the wing nuts to bring the systern down so I used the other doughnut which sort of fitting into the bottom rubber thing. Any idea what the solid doughnut is for? Anyway no leaks and all works. I set the double flush water volumes as per the instructions that came with the syphon.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  Před 10 lety

      Mark Davies Some pans have a deep insert so the solid rubber seal is then ideal. It`s good you had a couple of options with your kit. The pan in the video had a deep insert and thats why the old doughnut washer was a hard rubber one.
