  • We get up close and personal with the new 2025 ‘G90’ BMW M5 Sedan at its global debut, checking out the details on Munich’s shocking new PHEV V8 halo car.
Boasting 535kW and 1000Nm from its electrified, twin-turbocharged ‘M Hybrid’ powertrain, the all-new ‘G90’ M5 boasts switchable two- and four-wheel drive and 3.5sec 0-100km/h performance.
It’ll also tour up to 69 kilometres purely on electric power and hit 305km/h with its petrol-electric plug-in system fully uncorked.
Tom Baker takes us for a tour of the newcomer inside and out, ahead of the new model’s Australian debut. Pricing expected to approach $300K for BMW’s new ‘G90’ four-door M Car when it lands Down Under in Q4 2024.

It's good to see you in action again Tom. I reckon that my budget might just about extend to buying the carbon mirror cap....

Nobody is buying a full EV M5 lol. Buy a Hyundai and save the wasted coin

Out of all the colours they could bring to the event... They brought a flat black M5.

Seems BMW aren’t too confident on the looks of the car when they provide a very dark coloured car in a very dark studio concealing most of the design details. A mineral white model displayed in the Australian sun will reveal all. 😊

If they were not confident about the design they wouldn’t make such bold moves. Bmw is not afraid to take decisions and play around with the looks, design. The problem is it takes customers/journalists a while to get use to the new looks, adapt to the changes. When the g80/82 m3/m4 came out everyone was going mental about the looks. Today they are oh its grown on me ohh its looks more aggressive in person. Let alone the power punch they pack. Bmw is the only german car manufacturer who is in its own lane, merc audi are playing too safe and porsche just Sticking to the basics. Bmw is evolving and not afraid to play around. I am sure you will see one live in the aussie land by the end of the year under the bright sun ☀️ your neighbour from NZ ☺️

Flat bottom steering wheel "for some reason" - literally the deciding factor for me to order the new upcoming M340 ;)
I can't deal with the fat round steering wheel of current gen BMWs

It seems people either love or hate the design.

I miss my old e92 m3. This actually weighs the same as my ranger raptor. I mean it’s less lame than a EV, but if Porsche can make the new 911 GTS at 1500kg give or take why does this news to weigh 900 odd kg more? Needs a 1.8 not a 18kwh battery lol.

Light bonnet, haha, the car is 2.5 tonnes, but it just needs to be better compared to the 4 pot Merc, so the bar is set is quite low.
Ultimate driving Prius, and that’s an insult to Prius.

Those door handle wells are ugly, the front is ugly, the light on the front is obnoxious and the body shape is very E90ish, not a fan, surprisingly like more and more of BMW's cars they missed the mark for me.

Whenever a new bm comes all of you dummies come yapping eww design eww this eww that blah blah blah. Mate they bit ahead of time, consumers eyes take a while to get use to them, adapt them. When m3/m4 g80/82 came out everyone went gaga. Now they are like oh its looks more mean and aggressive in person. Let alone the performance they pack. I remember when I was 32 back in 2004 and the new e60 m5 came out. Everyone went mad comparing it to the e39’s looks but today e60 has aged better than e39 looks still timeless but e39’s look a bit old classics now. Chris bangle design still looks new. Anyway give yourself sometime it will grow on you.
