  • Today's video shows a great example of why it's so important to determine the root cause of a problem before just replacing parts!
Today we take a look at a turbo that was destroyed thanks to a 10 cent part.

Great video as usual. In aircraft maintenance we take FOD (foreign object debris) VERY serious. “FO is no joke”.

You can tell apart the professional from a youtuber by the tempo at which they try to convey all the useful info they can and complete absence of dragging the video on with formalities. These guys have work to do! :)

Great video Brett.Just found your channel. I got my dream gc8 impreza turbo in mid 2021, but experienced a lot of issues, as the car needed a lot of worn out parts needing to be replaced.

Thanks Brett, this actually happened to me a week ago... your video was so very helpful with explaining what the hell actually happened to my car the other day, & before now, it was pretty much the "UNKNOWN" for me.
    Cheers Mate!

Great video I have a 2021 Infiniti Q 60 and I am thinking about replacing the intake tubes with Burger motorsports that are not corrugated. Do you see a problem with that?

Brett how much would it cost me to fly you out to the USA and do a full engine build on my 2015 STi limited? Your Truly a boxer Wizard!

I rebuilt my first turbo for my 1.9 tdi seat leon just the other day with great success, The only problem I have is the fins for the in take side of the turbo are slightly dented but just ever so slightly which makes the the turbo whistle a little bit.
This might sound a little stupid but would the turbo fins being slightly dented decrease the boost output?

Hi Brett, i would like to get your opinion on possible causes of having black sludge debris on the inlet of the compressor housing as well on the area connected to the up pipe? Its on my td04 of my forester xt 2012 model.

Most likely a build up of oil blow-by coming through the bypass valve. A PCV/Crankcase catch can should help with this.

    can i remove turbo forever?
    Doesn't this damage the engine?

Sorry this is late but usually a stock turbo car. Is underpowered so if u remove the turbo it will be slow. Like my jetta tdi( diesel) it gets like 85 hp vs the 120 hp but the vehicles need to be retuned for low end cause it is turbo reliant

All EJ series prior to 2006 have a catted up-pipe.
