- In today's video, Chuck and Joe sit down and talk about pulleys. They cover our range from 92 MM to 66 MM specific to supercharged Coyotes and this range of 6-rib options. This is a very general discussion and keep in mind that your car/build may require something specific to how it is set up. It is always best to consult your tuner and builder regarding the specific needs of build.

Great content helped me a ton.
Thank you.
Thanks guys I really learned this.
Really thinking about getting a VMP for my stock 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca. Hesitant to pull the trigger and mod what I think is going to be a collectors car but these videos are are changing my mind haha
Joe and Justin are excellent tuners. My only gripe is i was told 800-850wheel with my set up on e85 and 82mm pulley, and i dyno'd under 700wheel. Bur since then Justin has sent me updated tune and it feels stronger, just haven't re dyno'd again. Couple more wot logs and Tune updates and i should hopefully be close to 800wheel at 7500rpm. But they are both outstanding tuners. Sometimes it takes time to dial in a badass motor...lol
I’m running your Roush phase1 to phase2 730p upgrade it came with 82mm pulley and running 93 octane no fuel additive I’m 530 ish above sea level . It runs great. I’ve added VP to it before and it wakes up even more.
Same with me 82 pully on 93. I need a e85 tune
At 4000 altitude I did 576 on 91 and 653 on E85. 82mm pulley on a Gen2R gen 1 yote
Excellent commentary
For a 2018 phase 2 2.65 blower what would you recommend I’m currently going with the 1050id injectors Upgraded fuel system and long tubes also in Colorado just trying to be on a reliable pully but want more power as well
Just got my first supercharged vehicle it's a 07 f150 roush stage 3 any advice on it when it comes with Pulley or any other maintenance to the supercharger
went with an 82mm on my 16 with a gen3. did over 800 and its good enough for me! thats the size you guys recommended to keep it fun and somewhat safe on e85
Awesome video!! Just switched to an 85mm on 93 and boostane on my 2014 gt with Aluminator and a gen3r. Car runs great!!
Could you feel a difference coming from the 88mm? What was your WOT degrees/timing on the 88?
@@jasonmichael7800 I'll have to ask my tuner as far as timing. The hp on 88mm is 708 and 85mm is 735, torque is 570 on 88 and 590 on 85
@@wilee.5.054 that is okay, no need to do that. Do you feel that it was worth it? Is your Aluminator high or low compression version? Thank you for your time.
@@jasonmichael7800 it's a high compression version
I will probably switch to 88mm just for driving around. I haven't really got on it much yet to find out, I just had it tuned yesterday 😁
Cant wait to drop my mustang off to you guys !! Big fuel big TB and tiny pulley. Should be a fun daily!!
Wow you guys are doing some really cool stuff but I have a question, have you guys ever worked with a r53 mini cooper?
I definitely want some clarification for sure. I just replaced my Gen 1 block with a Gen 2 new stock block. Wanted to go 79mm pulley 1000 FIC injectors with race fuel Sunoco 260 GT plus with the boost a pump. Will go to a e85 setup soon. I was told 82mm with race gas was a major stretch. Which is it cause this video doesn’t really support that. Let’s have a conversation so I can fully understand please
Ryan, email in or call to speak directly to support who can clarify any questions you may have.
Very educational, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Hi guys this video was awesome and super helpful. Just for clarification I’ve got a 2020 GT w/ roush 2650 stage 2 in Australia. What is the smallest pulley I could run with an e85 setup? And what supporting mods in terms of fuel system would I need? Really looking to get 800+whp.
E85 with a supercharger is going to require that you install a return style fuel system due to the volume requirement increase. As for pulley set up, shoot us an email to sales@vmpperformance.com and our support/tuning teams can discuss your goals and recommend a pulley size to suit them.
I hope the next video is about hp numbers on each pulley size it would be very useful
I have a 2014 roush stage 3 phase 3 with your twin 67mm throttle body and matching elbow if I go from a 85 mm pully to a 82 mm would that be ok for pump gas? Now I'm still running the 2.3 litter supercharger
Hey Matthew, that should still be fine. Be sure to directly message your tuner, if tuned with us just respond to your last open ticket, to check to see if you need a calibration adjustment.
Can 18+ go a little further on 1000cc injectors considering they have direct injection?
Wait i have the roush phase 2 for my 2017 mustang gt. It comes with 80mm pulley. Am i just wasting gas and not getting the power using 93 octane? Ford never said i needed any boostane. Should i be going with a bigger pulley?
The pulley sizes used on the Roush head units are a bit different as they are a different size supercharger than our VMP Gen3R and Odin head units. When we're discussing anything less than an 88 mm on a 2.65L Gen3R/Odin, it'll require more than 93 Octane to be safe.
how much power will I make with a 92 mm pulley on a Odin kit for my 2018 mustang gt and longtube headers with 91 octane fuel
I had an Odin kit with the 92mm out on my 2021 Gt… bone stock with dealership gas and some 93 shell I added. It made 594hp 497 tq.. it pulled timing due to the low octane I’m hoping.. only 12 degrees of timing.. the tune 93@ 17 degrees.. after I get some good gas and octane booster.. should be 625-650… hopefully
What is the smallest pulley you can recommend for a gen 1 coyote with a gen3r and your return style fuel system on E85 at sea level? Somewhat safely, I'm ready to rebuild if necessary
On a stock bottom end Gen1 car, we tend to try to stay very mild for safety. An 88mm pulley with aggressive tuning can put them at risk. Once you build a bottom end, your potential opens up greatly.
Hey i have a gen 3r on a 17 manual mustang gt. Fore innovations system on e85. Mantic twin disk. Calimer stage 3 trans. I live in Wisconsin witch is 1000ft about sea level. What pully would get me to 800wheel to 820. Would a 79mm get me there Or should i go down to a 75?
79 MM should be right on top of where you want to be based on what we've seen.
I have a 2014 mustang gt w a roush supercharger on it. It’s stage 1 I’m thinking of getting a cold air open air box intake next what pulley size do you recommend??? The one I have on now is pretty big I can’t really hear any whine
Hey Marco, give us a call at the shop at (321) 206-9369. There's some variables such as your goals and other modifications that we'd love to discuss to make sure you're getting everything you want out of your ride. We offer a few different packages that really wake up Roush kits and our support team can cover all of that.
So On your page any TVS pulley will fit the Odin? I am thinking of getting a 92 for daily use and 85 for rowdy time. I just Got my VMP fuel system to run E85
Any of the pulleys specified for a 6 bolt TVS should work using the spacer included with your Odin/Loki kit.
I just purchased the loki kit for my 16 f150 I live in Rio rancho NM 5500 feet vmp what pulley do I need to get to the 10-11 lbs of optimal boost levels I spoke with vmp and they said 3.3 pulley or 3.1
Either of those will work well, happy boosting!
What pulley do you guys recommend that will be safe for a 14 gt with a gen2r and 93 octane?
Hey Steven, most folks run an 82, or possibly a 79 based on fuel quality with the 2.3l TVS, such as the Gen2 and Gen2R. It's best to speak directly to your tuner who can review logs and verify the vehicle is safe.
What about running a huge pulley but with e85 instead of a smaller pulley on 93 (without full fuel system)? I am running my car on a big pulley on e85 and very happy with it.
Has it blown up yet ?
@@freedom6919741 it did blow up but not because of too much boost or power, I just revved it too high too many times 8500 rpm and my rocker arm retaining clips came off and messed up my cam caps and also my piston skirts broke
So with a Gen3r on a built Boss 302 Motor on e85 with vmp fuel system and Fic 1000cc injectors, the smallest pulley to safely use without going to larger injector is 75mm pulley. Is that correct. I assume i should be close to 850wheel on 75mm pulley with my set up.
More like 750.
@@harrisonclark4382750wheel on e85 with 75mm pulley only 750wheel. Seems low. I will dyno and see.
@@harrisonclark4382Using 1200cc fic injectors now
@@maximusvonce1381 i’m curious to see what power you make. I have a GEN 3 VMP , ID 1300s, sleeved short block, Fore triple pump, on the 75 mm. Going to be going back to the dyno soon. It made like 945 on the 69 without leaning on it.
@@harrisonclark4382 Why didn't you stay on 69mm pulley.?
You guys need to fix the webpage when searching for pulley's for the 03/04 Cobra's. When you look at single pulleys it gives boost levels only for the VMP 2.3 ( which you dont even offer anymore ) with no break down of what it makes if on the VMP 2.6. The only thing that lists boost levels for the VMP 2.6 is when you look at the listing for just the blower by itself, even on the max kit ( which I have ) there is no break down of what pulleys make what boost levels, so then ( like I did ) I went and searched for single upper pulleys on the site and ended up ordering the wrong one thinking I would be making 18 PSI for my set up only to find out I'd actually be at 23 PSI on pump 93.....not good. Love your guy's products but that site is in need of some help. I'll be calling tomorrow to get the pulley returned, which I had rush shipped thinking my dyno tune will be soon so now I'm stuck eating the expedited shipping cost on top because of misinformation on the site. Not really happy at the moment.
Duly noted. Passing along the info. We'll be awaiting your call in the morning. Let sales know what happened and we'll send a note over for when they arrive in the am.
@@VMPPerformanceTV Thank you
No problem. Thank you for your continued business and our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience.
@@VMPPerformanceTV I just spoke with sales and everything has been taken care of, thank you ( VMP ) for being understanding of what happened. There really does need to be some changes made on the site for the 03/04 Cobra pulley section, at least adding the boost chart for the 2.6 to the max effort options link. The cars may be getting older but that does not mean people are no longer modding them and the correct info should be more apparent on the site. Thank you.
2015 mustang gt roush supercharger r2300 tvs, fore return style dual walbro 465 pumps, FIC 1000 Injectors, roush dual 60 mm throttle body, Texas speed 1 7/8 - 3" long tubes @ 1200 ft above sea level. What pulley would you recommend?
Hey Brice! What's your horse power goal and what fuel are you using?
@VMPPerformance I ordered a 2.7 inch pulley from you guys today ( 69 mm right?). Was hoping to make 850 -900 whp. I will be running e85. You think that's a realistic goal? I think I will be maxing out my injectors at 55 psi
@@VMPPerformanceTV, as I stated, I ordered your 2.7 griptech pulley. I am having issues getting it to fit over the snout of the supercharger. Any suggestions?
Hold up, at 6:15 you said no scenario can you run 82 pulley w 93 octane? Ive been tuned w VMP for years…you know I have your elbow, TB etc and an 82 pulley w a 93 tune. ‘12GT Roush 2.3tvs. 🤷🏻♂️
We were referencing the Gen3R and Odin which are both 2.65L
Will a 66 griptech hang in there on a gen3r 6 rib or is slip inevitable
Hey Chrystian. The margin for error is so tiny when running such a small pulley on 6 rib. The belt sizing has to be spot on, tensioners upgraded and in good shape, and any misalignment absolutely dialed out. We typically recommend upgrading to 8/10 rib kit with an overdrive lower to add both belt width and pulley diameter to assist with grip once your need for boost reaches that level.
Can I run a 79mm on Vmp gen2r with 56lb injectors and BAP ?
As long as it's on 93 octane, it should be possible. Best bet is to confirm with your tuner directly as they'll have intimate knowledge of your vehicle and how it's performing.
@@VMPPerformanceTV so thats a definite no with a 72mm then..? on 91-93? im in Arizona
🤣 love the pun!
hi joe i called vmp and asked to make sure if i can use an 82 mm for gen3r for pump gas and boostane and they said no you can only go down to an 85 mm pully after that you need e85 can i use an 82 mm pulley on pump gas
Your gonna want e85 and return style fuel system when you start running more boost that a 85mm
I was told that I need to run e85 on anything smaller than a 92. I want to run an 88 on 93 and e85 on the track and was told no can't do that
@camddvp 88 you can run 93 pump gas 85 pump gas and boostane i dont recommend 85 on pump gas and boostane though iats get hot fast stick with 88 for pump gas
@@camddvp but you can use 85 on pump gas and boostane
Can an FIc 1000cc injector support 75mm pulley on e85 at 7800rpm in a built Boss Motor with Gen3r. I believe you said a 75mm pulley is limit for fic 1000cc injectors. I am assuming thats close to 850-800wheel.
@Joe Goodnough Would you recommend 75mm pulley with fic 1000cc injectors, or stick with 79mm pulley. To be on safe side.
@Joe Goodnough Joe. Should fuel pressure always be 55psi all the way to 7800rpm no matter what. It should never drop below 55psi during full throttle runs?. Sometimes mine drops to 50psi. Usually stays between 50-55psi
Could I run a 72mm pulley on a roush phase 2 kit 1000cc injectors and dual dw400’s safely ? Or even with a 69mm?
Yes with boostane or E85.
Stock Gen 1 motor will pop on those pulleys for sure.
💪💪
For 2011-2014 coyote, Is your VMP comparable to the 2.3 Roush tvs supercharger with the pulley setups? Thanks.
In what way are you asking? The applicable pulley size is different, as the 2.65 L displacement of our current Gen3R puts out more boost at a similar pulley size.
Do do have pulleys for the roush 2.3 s/c?
@@VMPPerformanceTV
Update or feedback to my previous question regarding pulley compatibility.

Vmp twin 67 t/b
PBH fead uplift kit makes 14psi @ 7k rpm with vmp 75 upper. Running E50
Belt has some idle slip so may have to use the griptech.
How much boost will the 20% lower add?
Every 5% of overdrive is approximately 1 psi or the equivalent of one pulley size roughly in most cases.
@@VMPPerformanceTV my boost gauge shows about 23psi with a 20% over and 2.8 upper- sound about right?
There's a ton of variables that affect measured boost and we'd need more details to confirm. But that doesn't sound abnormal in a general sense.
Joe basically said the 75mm pulley is limit with fic 1000cc injectors, with vmp fuel system on e85. 72mm would require 1300 injectors on e85. Although i know a 2009 gt500 running a 69mm pulley with gen3r e85, fic 1000cc injectors and he is fine with good air fuel ratios all the way to 7k rpm.
This conversation is Coyote based. GT500s are a significantly different platform with less compression, larger displacement, and just different overall needs.
@@VMPPerformanceTV Hey i am glad you had this video. Now I know its ok to run 75mm pulley with fic 1000cc injectors on e85 with your fuel system to 7700rpm. Any smaller than 75mm pulley and i need ID1300 injectors...
@@VMPPerformanceTV Hey according to Joe i can run 75mm pulley with fic 1000cc injectors on e85. Can i still run motor to 7700rpm, cause Joe said reasonable rpm. Is 7700rpm reasonable. Also i am currently on 79mm pulley but my boost is only 14psi with gen3r on e85. I think my max boost with 75mm pulley will only be 15psi since i am at 14psi now with 79mm pulley. My Boss engine heads and 3 inch exhaust must breathe real good.
None of that sounds too unreasonable and yes, a lack of restriction from a good flowing set of heads, cams, intake, etc such as the Boss' Roadrunner will produce a slightly lower boost number. In the end, the statements made in this video are generalizations and estimates made from the numerous cars we've tuned. It'll come down to the tuning team reviewing logs regarding your specific car to be absolutely sure everything is safe.
@@VMPPerformanceTV Ok thanks. Michelle Wilbur will review my logs with 75mm pulley. But i have not seen a higher boost number than 14psi with 79mm pulley all the way to 7500rpm with my set up..I guess my Boss Heads and 3in exhaust just breathe well.
Is the 88mm pulley translated to 3.5 pulley or 3.4 pulley?
3.4
@@VMPPerformanceTVthank you. I’m throwing y’all’s supercharger on my gen 1 coyote built with a gen 3 short block, apr head studs, and redone heads. would you suggest the 3.4 or 3.5 pulley?
@@VMPPerformanceTV hope you get an answer!
Pulley size would depend on fuel choice. If you're on 93, we typically recommend no smaller than a 3.4" pulley. If you've got a return style fuel system and access to E85, that opens up a whole slew of options based on what parts your engine was build with and your overall horsepower goals.
Doesn’t a factory roush stage 2 come with an 80mm?
My tuner telling me run a 69mm on pump? 😂😂
I havent even taken my car past 6500rpm yet cause i am going so fcking fast 120mph that at 7800rpm in 3rd gear i am 135mph. Gen3r is a monster up top. Scary man. You better respect the power or you will learn the hard way.
