  • Continuing on with a Frequently Asked Questions with Johnathan Price, we recieved a lot of submissions concerning RPM, and specifically why does it drop. A lot of bass heads who deal with this issue mention it usally happens when they are stopped. It is important to know the reasons that cause this, due to the fact that the root cause can affect other parts of your install negatively.
    In this video, JP goes over why it is your RPM drops when you are stopped.

    What is the permanent cure to dropping rpm when I break and gear is engaged, apart from simply revenge up the engine

    Hand throttle cables are good for setting your idle up when needed

    You can get a tune to fix your idle or you can add 1 or 2 more batteries to help delay this if you run them correctly and put at least 2 on a battery charger at night relaying on just your alternator is not the best option for your batterys do to it hammering amps in your batterys when you slow charge your batterys like led acid or AMG they will last longer and have a longer run time due to having a deep cycle charge when you are just relying on your alternator to charge your battery they're used to hammering amperage in and out so they will adapt and over time they will burn out faster

    My Corolla idles at 700rpm at a stop sign, but recently, it's been dropping to 400-500 for a split second when I come to a complete stop. It feels like it wants to die before resurrecting itself.
    Every says to clean the throttle body (did that) and the idle air control valve, but that just made the issue more pronounced. Could this be caused by a failing alternator?

    🤔 probably is the reason the alternator has a noise wheel bearing may have worn out.

    How do u setup uer subsonic filters and ure low pass filters

    • @ragextico
      @ragextico Před 2 lety +1

      Setting your subsonic filter: find the tuning of your box, divide that by 4 and with the number you get from that, add half the number of your box tuning. And that’s the frequency you should put it at.

    Does a bigger battery reserve decrease the load on the engine?

    • @allinorallout5926
      @allinorallout5926 Před 2 lety +2

      A second battery will help alot for you dailys, but if you plan on going loud for the hell of it, or competing in competition a 2nd or 3rd alternator with the addition of a smaller pulleys and a recalibrated ecm say someone handy with hp tuners can set you idle at a 1000 or even 1200 but I would suggest a higher stall converter, like a 2000 to a 2500 stall so it doesn't bang so hard when you put it in gear (manual, or a carburetor, or both this doesn't affect driveability much and is way or way way easier and cheaper) which also helps performance of vehicle. Depends on how far you want to take your build. The sky is the limit. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. #builtnotboughtwinseverytime

      @@allinorallout5926 Ah! I currently have a setup with a taramps 5k and an Ural 6x180 so about 6500w total which probably draws within the region of 3700 watts. I have a custom made 280a alternator with an external regulator set to 15v charging a bank of 6 40ah yinlongs.. I just find when the car is sitting there and there is a big load the car tries to stall it's self. Since I'm from the UK we call them astra mk5 estates but I think you call them saturn astra in america. I'm just wondering if adding another bank of 6 cells would stop the big fluctuation with the rev counter. I see JP demoing and he can just let the tahoe idle and it wont fluctuate the revs. Cheers for your reply!

    What if when you do your first startup the engine rpm works good, then drops a short while after, then goes back to the normal idle rpm 5 mins later? This happens on a nissan td27 engine.
