Saying a regular pushup is wrong is like saying a wide grip or a diamond pushup is wrong. It is just a different variation. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a regular pushup.
Exactly
there is nothing wrong, it’s just that depending on what you learn is “conventional”, it can get really easy as you progress and not that optimal for muscle growth.
In fact, you should incorporate all of those into your routine at some point.
Antranik teaches the pushup exceptionally well. Shoulder health matters.

Literally acting like they invented some shit gymnasts have been doing since forever. These are merely pseudo planche push-ups. That's what's so great about calisthenics, we learn how to make things easier for beginners...and make things harder, with or without weights. These bodybuilder people act like they reinvented the wheel every time they find something we do that is common to us.

For reeeeeaaaal..🤣
In real life youre a loser
If you are unfamiliar with exercises, this is not quite the best advice.
It is good advice for the one form of push-up that they are showing.
Where the good advice becomes bad advice is that there are several, many, different variations of push-ups. This is one of the variations.
It is not the right variation. It is not the wrong variation. It is one of the many variations.
So, as long as you are keeping your torso and body in a strict plank form, you're doing the push-ups right.
If you want to concentrate more on your upper chest, place your palms towards your feet. If you want to concentrate more on lower chest put your palms more towards your head.
If you want to concentrate more of the force on your pectoral muscles, put your palms further apart. If you want to concentrate more force on triceps, put your palms closer together under your body.
Those are just the variations on what people recognize as the standard push-up. there are no single points to concentrate on, so you can see how many variations this leads to alone.
Now, we get into other matters of raising and lowering your torso or feet. Then the versions with your torso and legs still being straight, but bent at the waist at different angles.
The only way to do a wrong push-up is by not keeping your legs and torso in proper alignment according to the variation that you are wishing to perform.
LOL I worked out with a professional bodybuilder and he showed me one variation of push-ups so all other variations are wrong.
Thanks man.
You the mvp here good shit
I think you got it backwards though. Bring hands past head will hit upper then bringing them lower towards feet hits lower chest.
@@michaelhoughton8449
Yeah, mike, watch the video again. You can see how it works. The explanation and everything in the video is correct. it is just that the kid tries to make it out like there is only one correct way to do them.
Video explains how putting the hands closer towards the feet activate the upper chest. With the hands toward the feet, you will be moving your hands in upward position as you raise your torso, which in a small sense is like simulating an incline press.
The opposite, of putting the hands closer towards the head would then also work for your lower chest.
You may be confusing the pressing movement performed when lifting weights in order to enhance the pectoral muscles. This is when pushing, or extending, the hands from your chest towards your feet will activate lower chest and the opposite for upper chest. this, of course, requires the use of a bench that allows you to place your body at the desired angle so that the movement is performed with the weights moving in a vertical direction, up and down.
with push-ups, your body is the weight that is being moved instead of a weight bar. The press with the body weight is done in a vertical pendulum movement instead of just a straight vertical movement, which is why it works as my original description above.
If you do place your palms in any position outside of straight off the side of your chest, you are going to want to perform this pendulum like movement and not just press your torso straight up or down.
This isn't something I'm guessing at, michael. It is something I am very familiar with with 39 years of knowledge and experience. The original post of hand placement versus activated muscles is accurate and correct.

Yeah man, essentially it's a Psuedo Planche Pushup. Really solid movement once you're able to do a few dozen pushups in a row! Can absolutely fry your whole upper body (outside of side and rear delts) if done properly. Can even get a great lat stimulus if you keep your shoulders depressed (pushed down, away from ears) during the whole movement, and a crazy bicep contraction if you go to a straight arm lean at the top.
Love that he taught this to you at 19.

@@tomc3216 one more difference: in a pseudoplanche pushup you shouldn't move backwards when you ascend. Maintaining the forward lean is important to hit the front delts as intended.
How would this work the back, lats, traps, biceps, or abs in a significant way? There’s no actual contraction for most of them, and for those that do have contraction, there’s no ROM or enough mechanical tension to activate them in any non negligible way as far as I understand
