  • So you've decided to pull the trigger on a new Toro Super Recycler. Which engine do you choose? Honda, Briggs, Toro, or go full battery with the 60V? I haven't seen many reviews on the Toro Super Recycler equipped with the upgraded Honda GCV160. Is the Honda upgrade really worth the extra cost? Ben and I talk about this and more in this review video on the Toro Super Recycler 21382.
    Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the review. I have a 20 year old Lawn Boy with a Honda engine. I don't maintain it, just cut the lawn. The pull cord broke and was tied back together, and most of the cord handle has broken off, which make it a little harder to start. For me, one huge advantage of this one is the aluminum deck. My Lawn Boy deck, like most other push mowers, is steel, and with years of wet grass clogging underneath, has resulted in rust-through holes, which now make it unsafe to use. Lawn Boy developed the Personal Pace system, which I love on mine, because it automatically disengages when you back up, while the other types of drive systems, need to be disengaged before you pull back otherwise the wheels "fight back"! It seems to me that the blade stop system wastes gas, because the engine keeps on going, so on those rare occasions that I need to stop, a quick pull of the cord and it starts up again. So, this mower looks like a great choice for me, however, sadly, I hear that it has been discontinued.

I recently purchased this exact model. Its extremely light compared to a Husqvarna I used to have. I bag my clippings and when the bag fills up, the front end tends to pull up. Even more so now that I attached my Big League Lawn CheckMate striping kit.

I like how the deck is specifically designed for mulching. The full bag lifting the front off the ground wouldn’t be much of an issue because it’s best to mulch most of the time unless your yard has a fungus.

Great review! I also prefer the BBC on a mower, with the non-EPA throttle lever for fine tuning the RPM and also using the low idle when bagging, but for a mulcher, nimbleness and quality cut/mulch wins out, as a BBC is unnecessary. With my 5.5hp Super Pro Recycler II, a better cut is achieved with a slightly *lower* RPM, but I don't know why that is. It may be because my 27 year-old Toro has a different deck design (it also has the baffles) but it has the throttle control lever to fine tune it. I have Kentucky blue and perennial rye (not quite as thick as your lawn, though), and even when mulching a few inches off the top (as long as its dry), it converts the clippings to virtual dust (which I don't expect you to believe). It may also be due to having a dedicated mulching blade...

I have one exactly the same model and I love it! I was never a personal pace fan but after using this one it is very easy to use and maneuver. I came from using Snapper commercial 21inch mowers and I also was looking for blade stop and a throttle knob, but honestly, this machine has more than enough power, and the since the mower starts so easily you don't really need the blade stop. Not to mention it has long-lasting HONDA ENGINE so it will last longer than the Briggs.

You can absolutely adjust the engine RPMs on a Honda engine by either moving the governor spring to the 1st or 2nd hole position in the governor arm. If that isn't enough based upon what your tach reads you can physically bend the governor arm (gently) to achieve the desired RPM. 👍

After about 3 yrs I'd say it's definitely worth it. Glad I bought this model vrs the junkie 2022 model. I don't know how toro can justify putting crappy wheels, crappy air filter and crappy everything else and charge $100.00 more. I'm telling you know, hold on to that mower and do like I'm about to do putting the Briggs and Stratton 223cc on that deck when my Honda wears down.

Well for the backyard lawn it did fine. The front lawn is the showcase. Reel and low is where its at. I realized you let the lawn grow tall for this video and to see how it would work. I think it would work fine with regular mowing once or twice a week and double cutting

Great rivew. I got one about 3 season ago. To be honest knowing what I know, I would go a different route, maybe a cheaper recyclers. I have to say my deck do not stay that clean but I mow low. That's another thing while it cuts well at lower H.O.C it dumps all the clippings at the ends of each pass. For the money you can get more features with other toro or even other brands.
