Only complaint is the cheap skirt flap. But ill repurpose my previous striper flap for this mower. Great video and presentation.

      Is there actually a way to just make this thing work as a free rolling push when youre going back and forth under trees and stuff 300 times? I’m not familiar at all with it and expected you’d have to hold down some safety bale and have to use the personal pace handle to keep the blades going anyway. Does it still push hard like you’re driving gearboxes yourself?

      @@stirv6462 Hi. If your mower is brand new, hopefully, the drive belt will begin to loosen (length) a little (with use), (& its frictional surfaces change some) to provide a little easier push (in off drive mode). I have the same situation here with obstacles (trees, bushes) requiring manual pushing our mower. (Mine [orig owner] is an old '84 Honda 21", needing replacement, so am looking at these new Toros). I hope that your situation with your new mower improves. (Hopefully, it will). God[Bible] Bless.

      @@stirv6462 So if you're talking about the personal pace and it feeling like the brakes are on when you're trying to pull it backwards. You can adjust the cable by pulling it towards the motor a little bit you have to find tune this thing and once you get it set you'll be good for a little bit. The belt will stretch and you'll have to do it all over again once the belt has stretch to its maximum amount it usually stays pretty good. But still it feels like the brakes are on sometimes It really needs a spring to help release it. But when I asked Toro about it online they told me there was nothing wrong and this is the first time they've heard of it, but there's at least 10 videos out there that complain about it apparently they don't watch CZcams have a good day.

I was regretting the Toro Super Recycler and was thinking of going with the Honda but after watching this, you put me at ease. #1 reason I don’t want the Honda HRX is the plastic body. No kidding I picked up one of those E series Briggs motors on a curbside throw away deal. Never been taken care of and used oil way too bad for me to resale after I got it running so I was like... What the hell I'll drain the oil and ziptie the engine brake and see how long it would run before blowing up. It ran a whole tank of gas out with 0 oil! I filled it up again and mowed my two dog pens (roughly 1/8 acre) before it locked up. Pretty jam up engines for the price point!

    I have the Toro 21386 smart stow black with red Briggs Engine from 2020. It seems to compare very close to this machine from what i can see. I was very disappointed to see that Toro did not use letters or numbers to indicate the height of the cut. If you cut around trees often, the levers can be easily knocked and throw the height off. I’d love to know if anyone experiences difficulties when pulling the mower backwards at times? I have periodically encountered this issue, perhaps the forward drive sticks on the machine. Also worth watching is the gas cap does not secure very well! You would think these engines would have a way to click lock the cap once it is tightened fully. I have experienced my gas cap coming off completely when mowing simply by bumping into a hedge or other low objects. Other then that, I do enjoy my mower. The handles are the same and in my opinion the best on the market for collapsing and storing the machine away. Enjoy your new mower, thanks for sharing the experience.

      I found that the small drive gears that drive the rear wheels if used on 1/4 acre or more need to be disassembled cleaned and re-greased about every 2-3 years for them to release properly so you can go backwards , also having the mower roll a few inches forward after you stop pushing on the drive handle helps the drive gears unlock to go backwards.

    Great review. I'm kinda in the market for a new mower. Mine is an 18 year old Toro GTS recycler with the 12" wheels. It runs great but I'd like to treat myself after all these years. I put a new carb on it about 4 years go - pug & play. This machine eats left rear wheels. At first a couple wheels cracked. Now the hubs loosen up and blow out. So i'm still replacing the left rear wheel every 3 years or so. I'll sell it as-is with a jury rigged hub.

      Keep fixing your old one as many parts were metal instead of plastic like the carburetor the transmission the cam gear and lobes and the blower housing . just got a Toro 2163 to replace my 28 year old Lawnboy Gold series that had a 3 speed transmission still on it's original drive belt (all new mowers just slip the belt to vary the speed which wears them out unless you get the real expensive hydro-static drive). I replaced the wheels and pull cord once and clean and grease the small drive gears so they lock and unlock properly every 3-4 years cutting 1/4 acre. the blower housing just failed from metal fatigue where it bolts to the engine from so many pull starts , except for what I just mentioned it never had any kind of problems. My new one had a broken plastic end on the blade clutch/brake cable while still in the box

      No new mower is "a treat", they're all flimsier and less hardy than they were 5, 10 and 20 years ago. I see lots of comments about folks giving up beloved older mower to get the latest n greatest only to be disappointed and wishing they had kept the older mower, warts and all. I am leaning towards buying a new mower, can't decide between Toro or Honda, but I know engine needs to be at least 160cc, those 140/150 cc engines are way underpowered for mulching AND self--propelled.
      All that said, I am going to get a replacement engine for my 2011 Toro recycler (still has the mulch/bag lever, big deletion and terrible mulch plug now) and keep it. I loved it but stupidly overfilled the oil last year and it pushed out the intake valve seal and burned oil and went a bit low before I noticed it and wore some grooves in the cylinder. Going to get a 190cc replacement engine, hope it will be nearly as good as the flathead in 2011, but doubtful.
      given ALL gas residential mowers will be phased out over next few years (Democrat side forcing massive EPA changes yearly), I wanted to fix up my 2011 Toro AND have a solid new mower. I figure a good gas mower might increase in price over the next few years as we ALL know the battery powered ones still don't come clsoe to matching the gas in performance and those batteries, nutz, cost half as much as a new mower (with a battery included). The operation cost of battery mower will be nearly double that of a gas mower if you try to keep it 10 years, the first 3 or 4 years maybe not, but that first replacement battery immediately jumps the battery powered operational costs way past some oil changes and $10 of gas per mowing season.

      @zack6892 Před rokem

      Yeah these mowers are overpriced. If you go briggs either get a timemaster or a snapper. The 8.50 and the 10.0 briggs professional series are pretty nice comparable to the GVX commercial engines a bit less build quality but way more torque and they aren't all plastic like the EX engines like the no oil change / upright storage/ cheap tiny foam filter crap on this one. Honda is nice but sucks they have plastic decks or the lower priced steel are FWD with smaller engines. The briggs really make better power even the cheaper one on the "super" recycler. Hard to get the perfect mower anymore maybe a Toro deck with a honda engine and a snapper self propelled setup. Used to be Toro had all of that when you bought them the old super recyclers are basically commercial units compared to these.

    • @rla1000
      @rla1000 Před rokem

      @@zack6892 That Honda "plastic" deck is bullet proof. It's some type of composite and it's indestructible. I've had my HRX 16 years and it gets *extremely* hard use. I even cleared three foot tall weeds and small saplings with rocks and sticks a few times. Steel decks flex and rust, and cast aluminum cracks under stress. Two years ago - at age 14 - the transmission went (partially) and I replaced that myself for $130, and four five years ago I had to replace a nut and bolt on the clip lever. I only use non-ethanol gas and have never had a carburetor issue. My HRX owes me nothing.

    • @zack6892
      @zack6892 Před rokem

      @@rla1000 I don't think the plastic is terrible but at 1200$ for the premiere hrx it should be steel or aluminum to be at least somewhat commercial grade. I'm sure the HRX could be a lifetime mower for a homeowner but I've seen the decks get holes punched in them in commercial work which don't total it on the spot but it ruins the structural integrity and will flex until the Crack spread. The newest engine gcv200 also is pretty nice it makes good torque and runs quietly but seems like a step in the wrong direction from the older gcv engines. Overall sure they are among the best mowers at the entry price point of 600-700$ but as you go up they are less and less worth it. You can get a lot more for your money from briggs snapper or timemaster I think but I guess it depends what your looking for. Also I expected the nexlite deck to be lighter it is actually heavier then my steel deck snapper commercial with the gxv160 engine kinda odd. The hrx is a nice all in one mower it mulches and bags well with no extra chutes or attachments but it lacks some quality for the price of the top model.

    • @zack6892
      @zack6892 Před rokem

      @@rla1000 just my opinion as somebody who owns a lot of different mowers. Love my hrx but I wouldn't use it daily for heavy work no way. My snapper I'll push into a field full of rocks without hesitation and it will be fine. If it hits something big may stall engine or worst case break sheer pin that holds blade adapter. If somehow it managed to have a hole put in it could be hammered out. If the drive system had issues it can be totally rebuilt under 100$ but very unlikely to need more then a drive wheel. The HRX if locked up could effect blade clutch and belts. If the drive system fails it is almost half the cost of the mower and ONLY on the commercial units does honda make them serviceable you can't even change the hydraulic fluid on the HRX217 they didn't make it accessible like the commercial unit which has the exact same layout. I think it's a great mower just not very well thought out or maybe made to be replaced not fixed. You will see them at small engine shops a lot because the owner sells it instead of buying a Trans. Honda also sells a ton of them so it's normal to see a lot of them at shops but take that for what is worth.

I want to get an HRX for my house and bring the HRN there. I feel confident that the Nexlite decks have a lifetime warranty. Plus I keep my lawn meticulously manicured so I'm never going over sticks or rocks. I however do get lazy and don't like to hose out my decks every time. I mow every 3 days at home and I already have some rust under the metal deck after two years of use on the HRN.

I used a fertilizer and killed it a bit so I had to dethatch it so its not growing yet. I am exited to use the Super Recycler as soon as I do I will let you know. It looks so mean but it doesnt have a on and off switch to turn off the LED's which to me its again a Toro thing that I cant understand why they do things backwards. The timemaster is the best of the 3. Steel deck, briggs professional series 10.0 which makes the briggs on the recycler look like a toy. With all the features offered in the HRX and 25% more torque then honda largest engine. If you don't have to transport it the weight won't be an issue although even the HRX is just about as heavy as a steel deck 21". I would avoid the recycler personally they have a very low quality engine and drive system. If you want a 21" you should maybe even consider snapper they use better briggs engines more power then the honda with steel deck. Snapper use a smaller version of the engine on the timemaster but built pretty much the same. The honda is nice I like mine but I kinda thought my snapper was built better and it was a lot easier to use just no roto stop. Really the timemaster is just better then all of them. Oh yeah no side discharge on the honda the snapper and timemaster both have it. You can actually get the commercial snapper Ninja for the price of this thing that's crazy the Ninja will be the last mower you ever buy.

    I took my 16-year-old Honda HRX in for its annual spring tuneup but unfortunately got it in too late and and everything was backed up and my lawn was getting loooong. So I go to HD to rent. All they had was a Toro. Now I know Toro as a quality company based on its commercial golf course equipment. However, I was shocked at the poor quality of the consumer mower I got. The drive control was flimsy and uncomfortable, a wheel kept falling off - several times, in fact, fell off in my car when I went to return it, the height adjustment kept slipping, the bag was tiny, and a bunch of other things. Maybe because it was a rental but I've rented a million tools and they were at least functional. The mower was clean and looked almost new. On the other hand, maybe because it was a rental it showed realistically what to expect.
    But just looking at the wheel height adjustment in this video makes me cringe - cheap sheet metal prongs, thin sheet metal lever that will definitely bend. Shame on Toro. And the mulching/bagging "plug" - gotta be kidding. And Toro wants the same money for this 21565 as a Honda HRX? My HRX is bullet proof - 16 hard years' use over a bumpy back yard, mowing and major leaf pickup/mulching in the fall, half acre lot and the machine gets used at least nine months out of the year from spring cleanup to final leaf pickup. Multiple changes between mulching and bagging, multiple changes in height adjustment depending on season. Today is November 29 and I know I'll mow/leaf pickup one or two more times in December before the snow arrives or after, lol.

The clippings on this new one are tiny so maybe that's why. Unless the grass is as dry as hay I guess I'll have to plan on washing it afterwards?

    Has anyone tried the 21564 red model sold at Home Depot and are there major differences. CZcamsr and subscribers can you provide insight on gas rwd toro? I went to Lowes and got a Craftsman m320 but later found out cut height is 3.75 inch. I noticed nowadays push toros rwd have 4.25 cut height. Getting to the sod I had ST Augustine Floratam sheets installed all throughout. I tried the craftsman once so far and while the quality of build I find great the cut height is definitely not to my liking. I’m also in SWFL Fort Myers area and only have a two garage for storage and we park both cars in by preference. I noticed toros have the folding storage capability and the cut height is higher however Toro uses several engine types on super recycler models. Home Depot reviews have trashed there mowers with engine, wheel, and quality issues. I also noticed right now you have to buy direct through toro because my Home Depot doesn’t offer Honda engine on toro which seems to have better reviews and feed by tradition. They have model number 21564 which is Briggs engine for order from store. However thinking about finding a way to get a Honda equipped version of super recycler 160s-190s cc. Can anyone provide good detailed feed on quality and engines as these mowers are in $700-$850 range and I’d rather not go through the mud on purchase and returns.

      The Toro SS (21382) with the Honda GCV 160cc 6.9 lb-ft of torque is last year's model. Not sure if Toro is still making that mower. However, I do have the Toro SS (21564) 190cc with 8.75 ib-ft of torque and the Honda HRX 217 VKA 200cc with 9.4 ib-ft of torque I bought new this year. That Briggs & Stratton engine is very close to the Honda's power. I put both those mowers to the test, and I haven't been able to bog down either one. Many people have complained about the B&S 190 engine having sputtering problems. Since I've had this mower, I haven't experienced that issue at all, and my backyard is very bumpy. So maybe they fixed it.
      A word of caution if you do buy 21564 from Home Depot. This mower will come from El Paso TX and if FedEx delivers it, there's a chance of it getting banged up. This happened to me twice, and both times I had to return it back to Home Depot. The same thing happened to another person in the Toro Facebook group. FedEx banged up his new mower. It might be best to see if there's a mom and pop lawn shop that sells that mower in your area if you want to avoid the frustration. That's what I did in the end.
