I love to listen to you speak in your videos. No stammering, no uhs or ers, just clear and concise. Well done. (Love your enthusiasm, too!)
I saw this John Daly tip a month ago from a tube short vid.
Went out to the course with it, and at 56 yrs old I “wooped” the high school golf STAR bus boy at my restaurant.
4 birds, won $25 and he bought dinner!
THANKS for sharing this wonderful tip.
For you to validate it's use is simply incredible! ♥️♥️
I love your channel!
thank you 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@AlexElliottGolf All your lessons Sir make me a handicap 18 to 8!
True story, if people apply!
I did the Daily drinking challenge, woke up in the parking lot with half a hot dog in my hand and a bad headache. I think it was fun?
I hit my driver better than ever today by gripping down, swinging using my 9 iron tempo and pausing a half second at the top.
And I started finishing in a more balanced position.
Wow!
Thanks Alex.
I always get told why are you gripping down your club so much. I just showed this video to my friend. I’ve never seen someone explain it though. Great video like all your others!
I was struggling with my driver and tried your advice with my driver. I chocked down 1 inch from the butt end and slowed down my swing and bam, your trick worked 100 percent. I was finally back to hitting my driver straight and great with no effort. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks again.
I love all of your stuff, Alex! You’ve helped me so much and I always look forward to your latest content! Keep up the great work! 👊🏽
Thanks, Alex.
I have been trying to slow my swing and this makes perfect sense.
The added advantage I find is that I am less tired as I am not wasting energy trying to hit the cover off the ball.
My challenge is to be able to focus on slowing and controlling the swing when I'm tired. The irony is my practice swings are closer to what I want to achieve and when I'm tired I tend to subconsciously throw more at the ball and lose all my form. It comes back to trusting the process I suppose
.
Great way to break down This John Daly insight. Thanks for sharing your insights and experiences with us.
I’m for trying these tips this weekend, thanks!
Love this video. All makes sense. Thank you.
Thanks for breaking it down, Alex. Really good video.
Some practical sensible tips there Alex less room for error with these thoughts 👏 I’ve heard John daly talk about the favourite club idea 💡
love this mate!
Hi Alex, thanks for putting this together. It makes sense and I can’t believe I haven’t heard this in over 40 years of playing.
Thanks for listening. I hope it helps!!
Amateur weekend golfer here and let me tell you using John Daly’s tips has helped improve my game by a long shot. My iron shots have gotten better and better and I recently hit my farthest distance with my driver about 280 which for me is a major improvement.
Gonna try this out tomorrow!
🤯 Wow that’s a great concept, I’ll definitely be applying this to my game.
I can’t wait to try this. Thx Alex
Yes! Been doing this with very decent results since learned a tip from Mr. 58 Jim Furik's 2015 article "Jim Furik's 10 Scoring Secrets To Fire Up Your Game"
He says on his tip #3: "Choke Down Of The Tee"
"For even more driver control, stand a bit closer to the ball and move an inch or two down the grip. Shortening your swing arc makes it twice as easy to find the sweet spot. I hit choke-down drives all the time---It's one reason I'm among the tour's 10 more accurate drivers."
Great message Alex. Will take it to the range today.-Be good-Russ
Thanks for sharing. I just need the weather to cooperate so i can go try some of these drills
Great ideas!
Yes!!! 🙌🏼 love this one
Thank you!!
Mind = blown. Putting this into practice right now.
Just tried this, much more consistent. Club and ball speed both up by 4mph. Used a 7 iron and a Meevo in the back garden! Thanks Alex will try on the range to see if it's going straight😂
Brilliant Alex I love the way you show how to do it . Certainly makes it so much easier . I tried this on the irons it works a treat I still found I need to hold the driver higher up but great video
Glad it helped thank you for the support Craig!!
You've convinced me!! I'm gonna try this! Thanks Alex..
Good stuff!
This was your best video yet 👍
Glad you think so!
this is really good
Gripping down is changing the swing weight, making it feel lighter and allowing the club to come through the ball with the body rather than lagging too far behind and getting stuck. Also, good rhythm happens when the time to take the club to the top equals the time from impact to finish. Makes you feel like a pendulum, one-two.
"short and compact" is not exactly what I envision when I think of John Daley swinging a club.
The passion and enjoyment you have in your videos comes across perfectly Alex. I start smiling too and can’t wait to get out and play again lol. Keep it up and keep them coming mate. Top 50 my backside. #No1 🤙
For sure, just trying to help as many golfers as possible 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Looking forward to trying this lower grip.
I always wondered about that when it comes to ball placement for the driver...
Hi Alex can you kindly cover more on grip? especially on the pinky position on overlap and interlock. Many thanks
Great video! Nicely demonstrated. If you can hit 250 but down the middle all the time you will have good scores.
Wild that I'm seeing a video on this right now! Just last week I started choking up on my irons (in search of A more compact swing radius) and the very first swing was the first time I truly felt that centrifugal force feeling throughout my swing... and BOOOOM... the ball starts rocketing off the face... easily adding 15+ yards. I swear it felt like Christmas! Haha
Great video and GREAT TIP! Thank you!
JD was a bit of that wild card on tour and I loved that about him. He did it his way and did not worry about what people thought. Tiger felt JD’s natural talent was crazy high so we should probably listen to his golf thoughts also.
Thank you. I'm 77 years. Oh, it made all the difference in the world for me. I hit a strider harder and Just far
He's definitely right about ball speed vs club speed. I've always had the sort of 3/4 swing, always get comments on how far I hit it compared to the swing. Most golfers try to swing out of their shoes. Consistency of strike is way more important than raw speed around the course. Great vid
Hey Alex I love your channel but I need some advice on striking my irons more pure... I have more muscle in my upper body than most golfers so my swing doesn't go all the way back. I always smoke my driver 300 yards but I tend to strike down more with my irons and either chunk it or when i swing faster I seem to be coming across my body on my down swing and the ball will go to the left. What is a great technique I can use to consistently strike my irons more pure and straight?
I watched Tommy fleetwood saying the same thing a few days ago tried it over the weekend and definitely works for me Alex 👍
Great to hear! This is class Billy!
I was just going to say the same thing. Tommy is my benchmark for this stuff, even bought a TM Brnr Driver following his discussion on the thing. Game changing club…….if you can find one!
Before seeing this video, I’ve been doing this for several rounds and noticed my strike consistency has been improved significantly. My scoring has improved 3-5 strokes per round. I can attest to what AE is conveying.
Love to hear this Robert
If you watch Lydia Ko she grips down the club and she is an expert ball striker. Also if you leave a reasonable gap at the top of the grip you will have a more solid grip and not lose it on the downswing and will not wear out the heel pad of your golf glove. Excellent video by the way!
So, does clubbing UP restore some confidence in achieving desired distance?
🔥🔥🔥
Changed my game overnight this. I dropped 5-10 shots and started feeling like a golfer within 1 day. The second most important thing is forcing lag in the grip. Now I hit 99 from 100 on the range.
What's lag in the grip?
Hi Alex how far should I grip down on each club does it very with each club and should the swing feel like you're chipping the ball kindly advise thanks for your help Jack
I will cover this in another video for you 🙌🏼
Hey Alex Lydia ko been doing this for last couple of years.
Off to the range after work tomorrow, very excited to see if helps, reading the comments so far I think it will .
How did you get on Mark, did it help?
@@AlexElliottGolf hiya , I hit the ball well, definitely felt like I had more control,no real lose in distance, only problem was with driver , I suddenly started skying the ball ,will use this technique but will leave the big stick alone, many thanks , love your work .
I’m a beginner and 5ft, always gripped further down because the club was too long for me. Then I got shorter clubs, still gripped down and usually find it is actually a straight shot! Albeit the distance isn’t there. Can’t wait to try this out. I really struggle with getting more distance!
Genius
I will be trying this in about 3 hours
I've been doing this since I started playing golf back in 1997, I just did it because I'm 5'8" and most clubs are made for taller guys, or at least that's what I thought and felt. I never really had the money to get fitted, but I will be doing that this year for the first time ever.
Got scheduled for morning tee off at 08:00 (05/03/24), west Indonesian Times (WIB), at Suvarna Jakarta Golf Club, definitely will try this. And i will reported what happen.
I'm 6' or 183,5 cm tall, 52yo, HCP 14.
😅
Thank Alex.
Those driver numbers are my exact number swinging full. I’m going to try this for more reduced effort.
I have found your site and none others are used now THANKS Iam having trouble staying down even my partners see me raising up when I top my shots.
Thanks! I will try and cover this in another video
I've been choking down and shortening my swing for yrs now ..def alot more accurate but def lost alil distance but better being in the fairway hitting a 130yd approach compared to having 90 yds from the woods lol
Love the channel - but cant to find a video for tips when the ball is above or below your feet when on a course, as it's something I really struggle with.
Would be great if could create one alex (or someone link me if I'm blind!)
Hi - this is one i have done previously czcams.com/video/FtQGmbThByw/video.htmlsi=udIZlgw2mYQJMmuk
@@AlexElliottGolfAmazing, really appreciate the link! Keep up the great content!!!
Coming for you in the next 2 weeks!!!
@@AlexElliottGolf awesome, especially for letting me know directly too!!👌
Hi Alex, at 5ft4 I have all my clubs cut down, so would I still grip down?
100% I grip down and I am
Only a little taller
I do not have fitted clubs and I really struggle hitting my 3 and 4 hybrids. (for a number of months, so I rarely use them. They always seem too long for me to control (I am 5 feet 8 inches tall). With low expectations this morning I decided to try gripping down on my 3 hybrid to where it felt like my favorite club in terms of shaft length. I am absolutely stunned that almost every shot was excellent 8 or 9 out of every 10 swings. It was easy and the ball went plenty far. I also feel like an idiot for not ever trying gripping way down. Stupid is as stupid does in my case. Than God for Alex!
would love to hear your opinion of Jim Venetos' swing method.
I'll check it out!
Never tried this one before. Try it out tomorrow. Btw Alex thanks for acknowledging us and showing you at least take time to comment some or throw a like out. So many people never do. Appreciate that and the videos!
No problem at all, glad you like the videos!
Choking up more and slowing down my swing has led to a HUGE increase in my striking this season. Seems counter intuitive, but it works!
I recently watched a video on golf network about shot shaping. Basically to hit a draw, you accelerate through the back swing then decelerate through contact. Vice versa for a fade. Slow back swing, accelerate through the swing. Does this work for anyone and Alex what do you think?
Yeah i like the idea of this
Where did Daly provide this information? Can we access it? Thanks.
I saw this on an article !
Did John make a video with these tips?
yeah he did
Also your clothing links are broken here as well. I'd love an AE jacket as those are my initials as well. Can you help with that please?
I’ve changed the links now it should work
Sounds interesting but wouldn’t gripping down change the lie of the club as you would stand closer to the ball?
Not necessarily
So you've applied Dalys wisdoms to your swing Alex.
Honestly, do you change your swing 3 times a week ?
Nope
Wish he had done a distance comparison of regular grip vs choked up grip. This does not tell, you how much you loose.
My friend broke my driver shaft sim golfing so I put my 3 wood shaft in it cause it has the same adapter just to get through a round and I hit my driver so straight I don’t think I’m switching back. I used to have a big slice and a snap hook every so often but every drive I hit was nice and straight. If anyone has a driver and 3 wood with the same adapter maybe give it a try has worked well for me!
Gripping lower really works, at least for me.
Lydia Ko seems to follow this.
Good player to look at is Lydia Ko does this all the time...
4
OK, but isn't John Daly known for a super long (way past parallel) driver swing?
I believe so yeah!
And?
Wife giving me a sideways stare as have three wood in lounge😊 feels very strange holding so low but give a bash next on the range, but convinced gonna just cost distance😮
Hahaha 🤣
good video but wheres john
Easy for John to say this he was one off the longest players on tour ...the 40 year plus players are looking for distance everybody knows more leverage more distance....easy for big John 30 yards ahead
Sorry but cant say i am going to give up even more distance. I would add a couple extra inches if that comes up next time tho. Lol.
Thanks for the video Alex.
As a Taller man (unlike John Daly), I drive much farther with a longer shaft AND Gripping on the end.
Makes sense, but you’ll lose distance as a result of the loss of speed. There is a trade-off, but IMO worth it if accuracy increases to lower scores. Get fitted folks!
Anthony Kim does this
Ya cause John Daleys swing was so short.😂
Sup alex hows r u today
I’m great Micheal how are you??
@@AlexElliottGolf great buddy starting to feel a lot more comfortable with my driver in my now.
Doesn’t matter where you put your pinky, the shaft isn’t going to be any longer 😂.
Sorry couldn’t resist 🤣
Where are Daily?
Of course Hawkeye knows accuracy
JT and Ricky grip down !
Why not just have shorter shafts suited to this length?
Great point - I do work driver
@@AlexElliottGolf So I could take my new clubs and get 1 to 1.5 inches chopped off all of them and then re gripped at the new length?
because it's about the control gained when choking down. Not about shaft length
@@antennasbc So, ergo. Have shorter shafts in the first place!
Why don’t you just have shorter shafts?
You could do!
Good afternoon Alex, I mean good evening in your case and afternoon in mine.
😂
Good afternoon Joe!!!!
I get it and I also grip down, not that far, but down ... problem is, Daly has a swing that's twice as long as almost everyone else's and swings like a demon ... losing an inch off his club length makes no difference to him at all I suggest, even if his clubs are standard length
Maybe I’m crazy but why wouldn’t you just shorten the clubs?
Yeah true
my dad is 70 and hits it farther than that... bomb and gouge fellas
Dropped it did he. Right. Ok. Hmm
He certainly did!
