- UPDATE: I never got my camera equipment back, I had to buy a new passport, pay my way into a country, had my phone stolen 4 days later, and now have since boughten all new equipment and am creating once again! I also got robbed in Barcelona. The moment you walk out the hotel room you "are" a target! Beautiful city full of robbers. Don't take anything valuable!

It was a shared room in Barcelona! If you did not see this coming you are insane!
But if you had your stuff stolen in a Youth Hostal because there was insufficient security then you should make a complaint. You should have had a locker that you could...lock! Also you might be able to find out what responsibility they legally have to accept for theft carried out to their clients on their property. I wasn't sure what kind of place you were staying at but it sounded like a very cheap hostal.
You're so right Nigel, I always tell people to lock their lockers. $7k in camera equipment and he stays at a cheap hostel, bad choice.
What was the name of the hostel that you got robbed in ?
Strange watching this cos right now I'm researching/deciding whether to book my two weeks vacation next month for Barcelona or Berlin! Ps, just to add that as a senior traveller I'd be staying at at a hotel and not a hostel or similar. Nonetheless theft/scams/pickpocketing seem to be a recurring subject in various Vlogs about Barcelona. Any advice/feedback from my fellow readers here would be appreciated.
Both places are beautiful! I obviously had an unlucky situation in Barcelona but I still enjoyed my time there. Berlin was personally my favourite of the two but that’s just because I value their way of living a little more. Also of the two I felt way safer in Berlin, but again, that’s most likely due to my stuff being stolen so I’m a little biased haha. Both are great though. Berlin is a little edgier and out there in terms of uniqueness, but Barcelona was beautiful and vibrant so can’t go wrong with either! 👍🏻

Your belongings were stolen. You were a victim of theft, not robbery. Robbery implies threat of violence, as in knife- or gun point.

I also got robbed Barcelona airport, just something like you the police just doings the report, they literally don’t care, I lost worth two hundred thousand dollars jewelry and Id , iPhone Mac, everything I saved in my whole life! I liked Spain before, so my whole family trying moving there, this why I caring everything! I am shocked 😢😅, and disappointed! The government should do something with it!

Sorry this happened, but Barcelona is a hot spot for robberies. The hostel has a copy of everyone's ID who checked in and left around that time. They should have done more to help you. What is the name of the hostel? This is why I always use a padlock on my lockers, even when people make fun of me. Better luck.
I am now reading g reviews on the hostel I booked and things ha e been stolen from people's Locked Lockers, the booking is non refundable so I'm kinda trying not to freak out. Are you allowed to say which hostel this happened at? I'm so sorry this happened to you!:(
@Hannah Kocian Of course you can mention which hostel this is. Some bookings are refundable, while some are not. Email the hostel or company you booked with right away and tell them you want to cancel and get a refund. If you must stay, do not leave any valuables in the lockers. Good luck.
@@TravelAddictGuy yea I booked the Safestay Gothic Barcelona Hostel, is that the same one you stayed at? Oh course it says non-refundable lol but I’ll see what I can do about it. What goes around comes around to those butt munchers that stole your stuff! Karma will get them in the end!
@@cheeseblock89 Hannah I did not make this video, jus commented on it. The Gothic area in town can be one of the more dodgy areas, like El Raval. You should your research before visiting Barcelona. Watch your things, especially at night and good luck.

Didn't you have a padlock on your locker ? I don't like the cages under the bed type lockers, they are kind of dodgy in my opinion. Sorry you got robbed man.
Unfortunately I didn’t put it on yet because I was in my bed and trusted my stuff would be okay (I thought wrong haha). But yeah I totally agree. It was one big learning curve back then that’s for sure haha. Appreciate it man!

Absolutely! Back then I was definitely still in disbelief, but I managed to turn that travel nightmare into a beautiful experience. I mean I got my phone stolen and paid my way into a country first but we turned it all around haha :) appreciate the message!!

Yes, definitely crazy!! I now have travel insurance for all my gear so my trips are a lot less stressful these days haha.
