  • I get asked all the time why I CHOOSE to ride a hardtail. Many people assume it’s because I’m new to the sport or can’t afford a “better” bike, but today I’m going to clarify those misconceptions and share a few of the many reasons why I love hardtails, as well as why I think many riders may be better suited with a hardtail rather than a full-suspension bike.

    Reason #5 is the most important for me. I'm all about saying no to the "N+1 consumerism" attitude in mtb. Not that I'm not tempted by it sometimes. But giving the middle finger to the latest trends and tech, and riding the exact same trails and features that the hot new long travel enduro bikes are riding feels reeeaaaal good.

      45 here. Agreed. Been through all the bikes including a carbon full suspension I rode for many years…no more! Now regularly riding a steel HT and an aluminum HT. Love them. Love how you can just feel the rolling wheels, rolling trail, and connect with the ground. FS is much more like floating straight on through than just rolling and moving your body with the changing terrain. The rider/bike system as a whole is a beautiful thing on a HT in how feedback from trail requires the rider to respond. The bike demands more from you but you quickly realize that the extra challenges are a big part of what makes riding fun.

    All my bikes are hardtails , rsd 291, RMB blizzard and a transition pbj . I bought the fat bike last winter and have been loving it in the summer too , they are more capable than we give them credit. I get a lot of comments when i go to a bike park with my hardtail like “ why did you bring your x-country bike “ or “ your going downhill on that “ . I love hardtails but im getting older and my ankles are getting bad so a full suspension might be in the works.

    I started mtb around 5 years ago on a hardtail, had my last bike ragley marley for 4 years great bike. Just got a new ride ragley big Al, still getting used to the 29er not as playful as the marley but it's rolls over stuff great and carries speed really well.
    I do feel like an aggressive hardtail has a cool factor, no full suspension can give off the same vibe!

    I owned an RSD Middle Child for about a year. Loved the geometry, but it was a little too stiff and harsh over the rocky trails I ride in Arizona. Great bike though. I wound up keeping my Trek Stache for when I need a hardtail fix. Just a lot more comfortable over the trails I ride most often.

    • @ridingwithjoshandwendy

      @JimmyRadloff Před rokem +1

      @@ridingwithjoshandwendy indeed they do. Really fun bike to ride. Not as stable as a Middle Child on really steep stuff, but snappier handling and very capable. It just monster trucks over everything with those big wheels and is very playful with those short chainstays.....and it's still sub 30 lbs.

  • @LaurentiusTriarius
    @LaurentiusTriarius Před 11 měsíci +2

    The problem with hardtails is that they last quite a long time, they are kinda piling up since logic prevents me to get rid of them. I recently put some ht frames with outdated geometry by the side of the road with a "serve yourself" sign. All four were gone in minutes, guess they weren't that outdated...😂

    Do you change your setup when you go to a jump park? Maybe increase the air pressure in the tires or forks? Rotate the bars? Etc. Also, could you give your thoughts on the different build levels on the Middlechild?

    • @ridingwithjoshandwendy
      @ridingwithjoshandwendy  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Great question! I tend to leave my bike set up with “jump park” style riding in mind for all my riding, as I like to try and treat trail riding like a skatepark. So I run about 10% sag and 30 psi (with an insert in the back). And if I were going to buy a complete MC right now I think I’d go with the aluminum GX no-dropper option, and then just buy a used dropper for $100 or so. $2,299 is a great deal for that level spec, and don’t forget to save yourself 5% with the discount code Josh5%off
