    Lions weakness atm: 1) DE 2) WR (depth) Very few kids come out of lower ranking conferences to do well in NFL. Yes, there are some but not a ton.

    • @Tre-77
      @Tre-77 Před 23 dny +1

      We didn't improve at LB. We have the same 4 as last year.
      I don't think we improved at WR. We lose a starter in Reynolds and think DPJ can fill that role. As much confidence as people put into DPJ or Green, they seem to have no confidence with our current DEs
      At DE we have Davenport, Houston, Pascal, Cominski and the player from Canada. You don't think in rotation, those players are capable of playing opposite of Hutch?
      If that's how people feel, don't do what we did last season with Romeo Julian and Charles Harris. Instead of trading them for a player or a draft pick, we let them ride the bench and then walk. Keep 2 and trade the others so you have depth.
      I think we have more DEs then we do LB, DT, WR, Safety and TE.
      Pass Rush doesn't always have to come from the Edge. Alim McNeill had 5 sacks last season and missed 4 games. With DJ Reader next to him, along with alternating DEs like Josh Pascal, who can provide more of an interior pass rush. We have options at that position.
      With the players we currently have under contract, I bet they get more combined sacks, hurries and pressures, then any rookie from this year or player that was available in F.A. it's not just about sacks.That would be like judging a CB on how many interceptions he has per season and ignoring his great coverageing ability.

      Not concerned with WR at all. Jamo is taking the #2 spot which is Reynolds spot. There are plenty on the roster to work with. If they don't work wait until final cuts.

      Remember, Ja is not a running back, he's a weapon. Last year I thought the Lions did a poor job of not having him as well as David Montgomery on the field at the same time. I like to see more of that this year.

      @JohnFischer-yb1xf Před 21 dnem

      Lol nobody would trade for romeo julian or charles. Literally 2 of them are out of the nfl and julian has no value. And lb??? We only need depth. Our top 4 are great. Idk how you could think we needed improvement at lb. I agree tho, if were lacking anything, we could use a pass rushing de, or a another vet wr perhaps. But really im not worried about either. Both kalif, dpj, green and washington are more than capable of taking nfl reps.

    There was a stat a few years ago which showed that all you needed to do was to flush the QB out of the pocket consistently and you'd win games. So then a lot of teams went with mobile, rushing-type QB's who could throw outside of the pocket or they'd just take off and run it. You need a line that can adjust to those types of quarterbacks. The Lions certainly had trouble with mobile QB's last season.

    • @JXR-MUSIC
      @JXR-MUSIC Před 22 dny

      i agree mobile QB is the lions kryptonite and they know that already, we signed hobbs 2 years ago just for him to be mobile on the practice squad offense.

    While I agree with the pass rusher dialog everyone wants to ignore the "tape" yes in "stats" the Lions pass rush fell way short last season, but, the "tPe" shows they were al.ost always 1 to 2 steps away, often less. So simply improving coverage is a huge change 1 second longer. Also I believe Houston healthy, Davenport, and Betts, and Pascal with potentially his first FULL season. Will be better than last year anyway. Also, pressure from the middle will be greatly improved. Not really worried

    • @thomaswatkins3686
      @thomaswatkins3686 Před 23 dny

      People making the point about pass rush are making a dumb emotional point in that the best pass rush in the league gets home in 2.5 seconds. Fans should go to their phone and use the stopwatch function.
      I’ve yet to see one comeback and tell us how often the QB got the ball out in under 2.5 seconds.
      Deduct those downs because THAT IS NOT A RUSH ISSUE. It’s a very specific design teams use to stop the rush. Some need to rewatch the ravens game with that in mind.
      I’m aghast at how few people realize this. The ones who do saw what Holmes did, clearly. That on those sub 2.5 second passes, there wasn’t a corner on the team who could cover that type of attack.

    I have a question for you guys.
    I looked at Arnold's and Rakestraw's scores and compared them to Jeff Okudah.
    Okudah beats both of them on the measurables. He scored better out of college.
    I'm only questioning this now. Brad has been more right than wrong.
    What happens if both picks are busts?

    • @sportstalkdetroit
      @sportstalkdetroit  Před 23 dny +5

      Good question. Okudah came into a brutal culture and then was injured. This culture makes up for any development that might need to take place. Hard believe they would both be busts

    • @jshah1961
      @jshah1961 Před 23 dny +4

      Measurables only tell a small part of the story. Okudah in 2020 was a consensus top CB, PFF and almost everyone thought he was a day one lockdown CB 1 but he was injury prone and had very little help from safeties and it was just a recipe for disaster. He didn’t lack talent in college but that’s where our scouting department comes in and why Brad Holmes has had so much success in his short career as a NFL GM. Both Arnold and Ennis are coming into a healthy situation with 3 experienced Vets already here he’s not expected to go 1 on 1 with Ceedee Lamb in his first game, they can learn and grow with talented young safeties to help them out.

    • @mikedehn8654
      @mikedehn8654 Před 23 dny +2

      I get it all. I'm kinda questioning the whole scoring.
      Every channel brings up analytics justifying Brad's picks being good.
      So has every regime.
      Then character was a big deal with Marinelli. Sure he drafted good guys but weren't good football players.
      I'm taking a sit back and watch for this draft class.
      Those first 2 picks makes me nervous.

    • @W1se0ldg33zer
      @W1se0ldg33zer Před 23 dny +2

      Okudah was injury prone for two reasons - he left college early and was also a Covid-restricted player. Players who don't get in enough college ball are well known to be injury prone in the NFL.

    James Houston was getting a sack a game until the Aaron Glenn made him drop back in coverage. He hasn't had a sack since, Thx AG. Does Von Miller drop back in coverage? Nope

    • @brandonbaty2291
      @brandonbaty2291 Před 23 dny +15

      First of all, Houston was injured in the 2nd game last year and was out the rest of the year (hence why he didnt have a sack since). Hutch drops into coverage as well (hence why he has 3 ints). If Houston wants to be a 3 down back, he has to drop into coverage sometimes otherwise we are tipping our hand EVERY time he is on the field. If he plays off the ball more he doesnt have to contend with being erased at the LOS. Also Von Miller definitely didnt only rush the passer on every down.

    • @righteousisthelord180
      @righteousisthelord180 Před 23 dny +2

      I share your viewpoint. Instead of utilizing the obvious freak abilities of Houston and using them to full advantage AG is trying to make him into something else. He didn’t same with Campbell. It is a stubborn point of view and if he is not careful Houston could end up with a coach who gets him and uses him to debating results.

    • @W1se0ldg33zer
      @W1se0ldg33zer Před 23 dny +4

      The Lions faced a lot of mobile QB's and you do need to have linemen dropping back to cover them. They had real difficulties with those types of quarterbacks.
