- Whipple Superchargers just released their new 3.0L twin screw supercharger. The completely new design offered higher boost and lower air inlet temperatures compared to its 2.9L predecessor. We liked what we heard and bought a lot of them.
The claims turned out to be true. The first one on our dyno hit 1,206 hp and could run multiple consecutive dyno pulls without any heat soak issue.
Our new engine build recipe has beefed up everywhere to handle the additional power. While others may try mounting one of these on a stock block, we start with a Dart's SHP Pro LS Next block. The rotating assembly consists of a Callies Magnum center-counterweighted crank, Callies Ultra I -beam rods and Diamond Race Series pistons. This is a short block that will last! You pick the oil pan to match your needs. Options include the Holley retrofit pan for LS swaps, and Dailey Engineering dry sumps.
You can't buy better cast heads than All Pros. These All Pro heads are CNC'd on our 5-axis to our own proprietary design for maximum performance. The hydraulic roller valve train is stabilized by the Comp Cams BSR shaft rocker system.
This plug-n-play package comes standard with the Holley Terminator X Max engine management system. It features both transmission control and drive-by-wire capability. This self-learning system gets a head start by coming with the tune installed from your dyno session. To solve your vehicle instrumentation issues, you can pair it up with a Holley Digital Dash.
Emtron engine management system are also available. These highly advanced units open the door to such features as: torque control, launch control, cruise control and much more.

A viewer asked about the possibility of getting a lot more horsepower running E100 on this particular Whipple supercharged engine. He did not specify whether the design would be dedicated E100 or flex fuel for street/track use.
Let's start with E85 and boosted engines in general. Other than requiring larger fuel injectors, the other parts would have been identical to the pump gas only design.
Whipple twin-screw superchargers are a special case in the boosted category being positive displacement air pumps. A fixed amount of air is pushed into the intake manifold with each rotation of the screws. Whipple specifies what max rpm is for the supercharger so that fixes the maximum amount of available air, assuming you follow their advice which we do. E85 contains 30% oxygen. Air contains 22% oxygen with balance being about 78% inert nitrogen. This is why the optimum air-fuel ratio for E85 is lower than for gasoline. You are injecting some oxygen as a liquid. The net result, all else being equal, will be more horsepower as you can pack more oxygen into the cylinders. The E85 tune will also have more timing than the pump gas tune taking advantage of E85's higher octane thereby providing additional incremental horsepower.
What about a dedicated E85 build? The big design difference here will be going to a higher compression ratio along with some cam changes to take advantage of E85's 100 octane rating.
What about E100 (actually sold as E98)? First problem is cost, particularly if you can buy E85 at the pump. If you are buying pails or drums, we'd rather use leaded ethanol at 112 octane for maximum effect. renegaderacefuel.com/product/ethanol-fuel-pro-e112-racing-grade-fuel-gold-renegade-race-fuel/
Methanol is another even higher octane option at 120, but it creates a lot of new challenges in design as it is far more chemically aggressive than ethanol and more hydroscopic.
Bottom line is that fuel choices can have a big impact on max horsepower for Whipple supercharged engines. As in nearly everything else in life, there are trade-offs to be considered.

HI Daniel. Our Whipple engines are indeed a handful as you can see in the "daily driver" video just posted. They have so much torque that street tires cannot handle your nailing the gas at any speed without torque control. I'd suggest you look at our 700 hp rated build. Good news. The 2.9L fits on 2010-2015 Camaros with 6.2L engines. We can therefore check with Whipple as they would know the 2.9L clearance and whether or not the 3.0L will fit. Please let us know if you want us to make that call.

What was the psi of this pull?What would e85 be worth h.p wise.Im looking to get between 1100 to 1200 to the wheels to run my number. Could this be pushed to 1300on the engine dyno? Would like to c a max effort pull with good gas.
@@duvall408w The pulley set we used had the supercharger spinning up near the top of its range. It was generating from 16.0 - 17.3 psi across the rpm range. Twin screw superchargers are positive displacement so there is no more air available than what you saw. E85 doesn't need as much air for combustion as gasoline does because E85 is oxygenated. The net result is that by switching from pump gas to E85 and pushing in a lot more fuel, you'll gain 5 - 6% horsepower after tuning. E85 is a higher octane fuel. Depending on the blend, which is often seasonal, octane can run from about 100 - 105. A dedicated E85 engine could therefore be built with a higher compression ratio and that would get you another bump in power. The problem is that you would no longer be pump gas friendly.
In round numbers, you lose 20% from fwhp to rwhp. That means you'll need 1,375 fwhp to get 1,100 rwhp. That's not happening here. You'll need a bigger supercharger. Here's a video (see link below) showing a similar engine with a 4.5L front-fed Whipple running E85 and doing 1,328 hp. As you'll see in the video, it hit 22.8 psi peak boost. If that engine had the optional Dailey dry sump like this 3.0L Whipple build, it would pick up another maybe 25 -30 hp. A little nudge up on compression ratio should get you into the that 1,375 hp neighborhood.
