- Wooden Marquee letters are very popular in populated areas or party towns. If you live near event spaces or know some event coordinators, Marquee letters are definitely something you should look into. Hopefully this video will help you build these and explain the process you can add this to your woodworking or rental business. Check prices in your area, but I sell these for $180 on the 36" high and $220 on 48" high. I rent the 36" for $45 a letter for the weekend. If you have a CNC, you are way ahead of the game!

Shared this with a wedding rental company down in Kansas. Hopefully, they’ll be buying a set of plans from you & gain a subscriber
These marquee letters are super cool! That is very generous for you to share your process.
They look awesome. You did a great job
Thank you for the info and direction on making these awesome looking Marquee letters.👍👍 way up!
Great Video!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for watching
Awesome video. Very interested in learning more and starting a business out of this.
Brilliant.
Thanks for watching
Thank you so much for explaining everything. (Including pricing to rent them out) I love them, it’s about to be my extra income!!
Thank you so much!
Hi David, I love this video! I would love to see more about the business side of the rentals, also the custom woodworking pricing you do for weddings, and even if you have building plans to share on the letters you have designed? I am a big fan already and hope to see more of your content soon!
The letters come from plans on Etsy. Source in the description. I’m just getting started on the rental side. I will make a video on how it’s going in a few months.
Thanks for the video. Great job.
Thanks
I need some right now ! Take my money ! I live in Texas
Not sure if you already do this but after you make a letter just trace it on top of wood then use it as a template, this way you dont have to keep doing the long process of the design every time.
I have templates for most letters
Did you buy the regular letter plans from the Etsy store or did you buy the wide letter plans? Not sure which you used in this video (I can’t tell - sorry if you said it and I didn’t catch it). And are these the 3-ft letters?
Yep 3’
Hi David loved the video thank you for explaining. Can you tell me where you get the measurements and design sheet for your letters?
DIY Wedding Market on Etsy
Thank you so much for the video!! Was searching for help making some for our sons wedding!! Would love to build and rent them also!!
Awesome, thank you for sharing. Question regarding the rentals, what paperwork/contract you use for these rentals. Ty.
I have a contract. If you are interested I can send you a copy.
Would I be able to get a copy too?

This is a great video and since I'm retired its a great side hustle job. Do you have the designs for the letters in a PDF or other format that I may purchase from you?
Plans come from DIY wedding market on ETSY
Good video very helpful, I have a question though what sanding paper do you use ?
I use 150. That’s really all that’s needed in my opinion.
What kind of staples do you use for the wire ?
@@XLongBeach whatever fits in the staple gun you have and won’t go all the way through the wood.
Do you know about how much wire you need for each 3ft letter? Like just a round-about?
It’s different for every letter. So I have no idea. I buy it in 500 foot roles
What grit pad do you use with the sander? How far apart are the drilled holes?
150 grit, and the holes are different on every letter. You need the plans
I just watched your video on making the letters. You started out saying you used 1/4" plywood, but in the video, the plywood looks a lot thicker. Is it 1/4 in or thicker?
1/2” back, 3/4” sides
What size of staples did you use for wiring and what kind of stapler and wat bit and size did you use for the holes for the lights and the are bulbs clear or clear led
9/16” staples, 1” Forstner bit, clear LED bulbs are best
Did you buy the regular letter plans from the Etsy store or did you buy the wide letter plans? Not sure which you used in this video (I can’t tell - sorry if you said it and I didn’t catch it).
Mine are the regular plans
This is fantastic! I have only had people ask for these to purchase - the rental idea is awesome... but where do you keep the letters when they aren't being rented out?
I have a 40’ ocean shipping container for storage
@@yellowhammerwoodcrafts wow! And I have a CNC - the plans that you have, are they compatible with CNC to cut the letters out?
@@collageandwoodthe plans come from DIY wedding market on Etsy and the backs can be cut on CNC but not the sides
I bought the 3 foot plans, so excited to try them out!!!

Hello David I’m wondering how you drawing the angles so fast for the back of the letter when I’m drawing it’s taking me a bit longer on the angled parts to find the right measurements
The plans tell the angles
If I were to drive to you how much would you charge per letter. I'd definitely need the major letters. I'd be driving from TN
Don’t sell them anymore. Only rent
Do you have any pointers for the measurements on the inside corners of the actual number cutout? The plans don’t give those measurements and I’m struggling to figure them out.
I put the side piece up to where it goes with it underneath and mark the angle then cut it.
Do you recommend to add a base on them ?
Mine don’t have a base, but the letter P and F need one.
I will like to see a video of the payment process. Do you take a picture of some one I.D. Do you give a contract to signed , or how will you go about protecting your letters from being stolen ? Lol
I have a contract for them to sign and I take a deposit I hold until I get the letters back
Where do u get the plans for the letters?
DIY wedding market on Etsy
What type of wood do you use for the sides and what thickness
Sides are 3/4” sanded plywood
Do you get requests for different color letters or lights, or do you just keep them all in white?
White is the most popular color for events and I e never been ask for any other color.
Hello! How many letters does a sheet of plywood yield? Thanks so much for any response 🙂
4-5 depending on the letters. That’s just the backs though. You need another sheet for the sides
@@yellowhammerwoodcrafts thanks so much! 🙂
What website do you use to advertise this type of business?
Lots of ways to advertise. Biggest way is Facebook Marketplace and Facebook community group pages. I also use my own website, T-shirt’s, brochures and cards to event planners and venues.
How far apart do you do your holes for lights
Depends on the letter. They are all different
Plans come from DIY wedding Market on Etsy
Can you tell how can order the lights please?,😊
There should be some Amazon links in the description
Hi, you say 1/4 in plywood in video but in your description it says 1/2 in. Which one do you use?
1/2” back and 3/4” sides. Thanks. I didn’t realize I did that
@@yellowhammerwoodcrafts One can use half inch for the sides too?
@@kleenchick3102 yes definitely. I just like the look of 3/4 better. Just personal preference. The plans I have actually call for 1/2. I found that 3/4 is easier when trying to mail corners together

Thanks
Which letters do you recommend to start with for a business?
Letters to spell common phrases like, PROM, GRAD, LOVE, MR & MRS, CONGRATS, OH BABY, OH BOY, ITS A BOY/ GIRL
@@yellowhammerwoodcraftsim sorry one more question do you recommend the reg size letters or wider for 3 ‘
@@mariacisneros150 I only the build the ones in the video. Not familiar with any other ones.
@@yellowhammerwoodcrafts ok. I’m viewing the Etsy shop now and there’s a reg and wider option, I’m guessing you used reg width.
I can’t find the build plans in your Etsy shop.
They aren’t my build plans. You can get the plans from DIY wedding market on Etsy.
If you don't mind me asking, what is the approximate cost to build per letter?
$50-60 depending on the letter
@@yellowhammerwoodcrafts Are the letters that you have made the 3' wide version?
@@davefromholz5850 3’ tall
@@yellowhammerwoodcrafts wow !!!!
How many letters can you safely connect together before you connect to the extension cord?
Probably not a word big enough that would not be safe. Except maybe some medical words and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious 😏
A 110 volt 15 amp outlet can handle around 1500 watts. Each bulb is one watt. So most letters are around 10-15 watts. I’ll let you do the math
Hello I'm from Brazil . And I'm starting letter art from scratch and I wanted to know if you could give me some help. A tool or some help to get started
I have lots of videos on building the wooden letters I have. Should be everything you need to know.

How tall and wide are your letters
36” tall. Width depends on the letter. Plans come from DIY Wedding Market on Etsy
How much are for the Marry Me ? And do you ship if being purchased
I sell them for $180 a letter. I’m not sure what shipping would cost but I’m sure it would be several hundred dollars. The letters without shipping would be $1260

@@yellowhammerwoodcrafts ok thank you
Hello friend, what is the thickness of the wood? Thank you.
I use 1/2” for the backs and 3/4” for the sides.
How much do you rent them for ?
1-3 letters $45 a letter
4 letters $150
5-9 letters $200
10-15 letters $250
Is it possible to buy these from you ?????
I’m only renting them at the moment
How much does it cost to build? A letter
Average about $50 a letter
Was the best plywood to use or does it matter
I use sanded plywood from Home Depot
You can get exterior plywood or marine plywood for outdoors
Is there anyone in San Diego, CA that rents these for a reasonable price?
Just google Marquee letters near you. I’m sure a populated area like that has a lot of event coordinators
Thanks for walking through how to build these. I was pleasantly surprised to learn how straightforward it is to make them.
FYI, the sound volume on your video varies widely from segment to segment. I had to constantly adjust the volume to either hear you or not blow out my ear drums.
Sound is a struggle I’m having. Sorry
I hope you charge $60+ per letter... that's a lot of work! Good work! But, a lot
That depends if you’re talking about buying or renting? I was selling them for 160-180 a letter.
@yellowhammerwoodcrafts ok yeah that sounds pretty accurate! Your letters would be worth every penny!
How much do you rent them for ?
Rental Fees
1-3 letters = $45 a letter
4 letters = $150
5-9 Letters = $200
10-15 Letters =$250
@@yellowhammerwoodcraftsthis is a great idea I never considered before so thanks!
It's normally windy here on the east coast...I'm guessing these end up outside alot. Have you considered a base in the shape of puzzle piece ends that lock together with holes through them to stake them down? If I did that how much wider than the letters would you recommend?
Can you get these lights in led so they are more energy efficient?
If you cut the letter backs out from plexiglass once...you can store them stacked and use them as templates for your router. It would speed up production.
Do you cover the front of yours with plexiglass?
Do you cover the back of your to protect the wires?
@@yellowhammerwoodcraftsI forgot to ask how much of a deposit you ask for please?
