  • I have been using the Shapeoko 5 Pro for about a month before this review and I would recommend it to anyone who asks. This line of CNCs is great for small shops and beginner or intermediate CNC users.
    Carbide 3D is a great company and responded to all my questions and concerns immediately after emailing them. They give you 4 one on one sessions to help you learn how to use the machine. They have lots of training on their website to help you and will replace anything you break in the first 30 days.

    I bought the 5 Pro 4x4 in October 23 & I can honestly say I have absolutely 0.0 Regrets about that machine. People think $4k is a hefty price to pay for a bench top CNC, but Carbide 3D has done their due diligence with their machines & you actually get a LOT for that $4k price. Kevin & everyone up there at Carbide 3d are super helpful & supportive. Plus not to mention you’re gonna make that $$$$ back (& then some most likely). Truly if I ever get another one it will be another Shapeoko from Carbide 3d!! 💯

    One of these machines is definitely on my list. We have two lasers now and the wife wants an embroidery machine next. After that it's a CNC.

    I own a Shapeoko 4 Standard (my first machine) and have made several inlaid cutting boards and some inlaid mantle clocks as retirement gifts. I, like yourself, haven't made any money with it yet either lol. I will be upgrading to a Shapeoko 5 Pro 4x2 in the next couple months. Just wanted to say, by your pictures, it looks like you have a pretty good handle on how it all works. Your work looks really good!

    Hope this helps someone but in short, VFD spindle kit = more power and less noise. Cheers!

    My front plate was broken. But still worked fine. They sent out a new one right away.

    I love my 4x4 . They don't include the printed manual because it's more efficient to provide it digital so it can be updated immediately.

    Hi David, great video! I'm looking at getting the Shapeoko 4 XL model. I was wondering if you remember approx how long it took for assembly of your machine? Also, do you think building an enclosure is a must? For both dust and sound purposes on this unit?

    • @yellowhammerwoodcrafts
      @yellowhammerwoodcrafts  Před měsícem

      Mine is not loud at all. I don’t think an enclosure is necessary. Took about 5 hours to build.

    You can use any software on the machine. As far as 3d, that's in the software. Carbide Create Pro is probably the easiest software and cheap.

    Is the speed of the VFD spindle controlled by the software/g-code? One of my concerns with using a router is having to manually set the speed using a dial.

    Do you have a link to the vacuum hose you used? How long did you end up needing?

      I bought it so long ago, back when I first started in this shop, I don’t remember. It’s about 12’. Sorry I don’t have any more info than that. Pretty sure it came from Amazon though.

    I'm guessing that there is no instruction manual because there are so many video's and customer support that instructions seem a bit redundant...Just my thought.

    In the video, when recording the noise level, it sounded loud. I think this was a recording issue. Why not measure the db level with an app on your phone.

    Have you cut any marquee letter or number backings yet? Can this machine work for the 36” ones?
