Another banger by Richard "Hit Loda with a chair in a steel cage match for PPV during dreamhack" Lewis. This time, he suplexes Astralis down to the mat.
my guy doing the "say that to my face" keyboard nerd thing to someone that has been to every club in Serbia and wider from probably age 16 is the pinnacle
Not to derail from your overall point about AST's mediocrity, but their Rainbow 6 team was actually one of the best in North American Siege for the 2022 calendar. Great start to the year, weirdly harsh falloff at the end, and they're going to Worlds next week. Doubtful that the 120k in prize money makes up for the cost of literally buying out an entire other org to establish their NA operations (google Disrupt Gaming), but it was still a good year for them. Just wanted to mention it, keep up the good work RL
Hey felt like I should chime in on some details I know that were not mentioned in the vid. Astralis actually joined the LEC in 2019 at the start of franchising of the league, however, they used the name "Origin" at the time because they thought more fans would gravitate towards that brand that they knew. And early on, they actually got to the finals of a split. However, when they still had good players is when they started asking players to cut back due to hard times. What was actually done with that money? Idk. Additionally, to save cost on their lol team, they were always stationed in the same facility as astralis (even when they were still called origin) which was to probably connect them to astralis's winning mentality at the time, but I personally think it was to save money by not having to have the team live in berlin. For those who don't know, LEC plays all their games live in Berlin. So the team had to fly to and from the astralis place to berlin once a week to play all their games jetlagged unlike the other teams. Additionally, they had one less scrim day or no rest day (i forgot which) due to the airplane trips. So astralis did do a bit better in lec than richard stated, but I would not credit the org. The players/coach sacrificed a lot to make it work
Can't wait for Richard Lewis to be a guest on Talking Counter ep 347 in the year 2031 where they talk about Cloud9 re-evaluating its position in CS:GO2 (again)
Living in Denmark and having a very biased coverage without any nuance when it comes to Astralis is very tiring. Thanks for this video Richard - much appreciated
I hate the fact that astralis got lucky with the lineup they had in 2017-2020 and they built their fortunes on the back of the players, if that lineup wasn’t so great they would be forgotten so long ago like an org like godsent..
We've done an internal investigation and found Hunden to have done nothing wrong. He will be receiving a pay bonus as gratitude for putting up with this irredeemable slander brought to his name by Richard "Megadeth Shirt" Lewis.
For people not following r6 The first places are NA (strictlly) league that consists of 9 BO1s and you play every other team in the league once and one upset BO1 loss could easily remove you from #1 spot. Top 4 qualify to Major (2nd biggest tournament in the game, 16 teams, GSL groups) They got 2nd at the first major (may? of 2022), looked solid(but they legit only had to play NA teams in the playoffs). Bombed out of the 2nd Major in groups and straight up failed to qualify to the 3rd. Also one goofy online NA tourney with only like 3 tier one teams where they lost to fellow t1 NA team in playoff (absolute blow out) Theyre not bad but arent any world beaters either, take that for what you will. Pretty sure the only reason they got in was because they got to buy out some super small org for peanuts that already had secured spot in the league that would always be in the middle of the pack and the r6 team esport skins for tier1 teams bring insane money stated by few CEOs including Carlos
Now, we just need for Richard to buy some Astralis shares, or be appointed as spokesperson for a group of investors, so he can ask those questions to the org directly
Astralis R6 aka Disrupt gaming was not a bad purchase at the time. They had a solid team, great social media presences, and a solid line up of personalities. Now…. Not so much.. In my opinion the R6 comp scene died with Kixstar. As much as people disagree with that statement, I barely have watched any pro league since then. He was an amazing caster, and felt like he brought the hype. It also doesn’t help the game just isn’t fun anymore. After 1000+ hours I’d rather watch paint dry than play R6.
Agreed. I think I have roughly 1000+ hours on the game also, yet haven't played it in around 2 years. For me, the retirement of most of the 'OG' pros killed the scene, alongside the direction the game is going in not being something I like. It continually feels to be aligning itself closer to COD and losing its tactical uniqueness which set it apart from other FPS'.
@@Samjie I completely agree with that too, a lot of the older pros we’re so much fun to watch, and had crazy high emotions. Pengu leaving automatically killed the Pengu vs Shaiiko virally, and now Beaulo is leaving the scene too. I can’t see the esports scene being around for another 2 years. Unless they make it free to play, which will kill the game anyways. I think they should purposely kill the game on it’s 10th birthday.
