You're the best Pete! Loved all your engine building educational videos, I learned soooo much from every single one of them. Your videos also make me even more excited for motor school in the fall! Keep up the awesome videos man!!
That's awesome Spencer, thank you very much and good luck in school...never stop learning!
Great video - the first thing that stood out for me, is the title sequence. I love it because it says everything, and says it perfectly, in just a few seconds! Kudos to whomever designed your title sequence! Keep up the good work!
I thought it was time for a change. Something new instead of the boring title. I worked with a graphic designer. Thanks my friend
Good stuff Pete. Thanks for posting this video
Thanks my friend
Thanks, Pete!
First video if seen from you and I loved it. Quick, simple and to the point . I am now subscribed.
Awesome! Thank you!
I may never build an engine, But the amount of knowledge you provide Open my eyes to the world of possibilities. Your videos radiate kindness and success.
Thank you very much Daniel
Thanks for the information. A very good job!!!
Thanks Marshall
nice video, i have pulled many engines and have used both the lifting plate and the load leveler, and once i used the leveler i would never go back to using the plate ever again, its a game changer for walking a engine in or out of a vehicle exp if you are doing it by yourself, no more jack on the back of the transmission, no more pry bars, makes the job of a engine swap way easier.
I agree 100%
Good vid pete. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks Robert
The new intro is insaaane ! 😃
It gets more insaaaaanerer soon
Very cool intro... Well explained video with important safety details. Good stuff!
Thanks my friend....safety first
you all probably dont care but does any of you know of a way to log back into an Instagram account??
I stupidly lost the password. I appreciate any help you can give me!
@Nathan Ivan Instablaster :)
@Zaire King Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Zaire King It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass :D
Great topic and video :D
Thanks Codey
He said "it'll fracture your foot" lol...More like smash that sob like stepping in a pile of dog crap! Joking aside safety is important not only for yourself but that 500lbs of gold soaked in blood, swesr, and tears haha. Great video as always, I always learn something new, and if not I at least get a good refresher course. Love seeing the channel grow these past few years & hope to continue being a part of it!!!
I've never had it happen, and I hope I never do. Thank you for sticking around and watching!
perfect
Nice Garage Pete!!
Thanks 👍
Good one Pete
Thanks!
Excellent video. Pulling a 302 V8 out of my 70 Mustang and don't want to dork it up!
You can do it!
well done
Thanks my friend
Good video! Could you do a video talking about a hydraulic roller vs solid roller? Pros/cons? Also will a retrofit kit fit in a oem roller block sbc?
I'm collecting parts for that video
I appreciate your videos and the info shared.
When it comes to engine storage, is there any downside to using an engine stand that attaches to the back where the bellhousing normally mounts?
An engine cradle makes more sense, but just curious...thanks.
Sure, you can store it on a stand, just keep it covered.
Hey Pete, nice video. Thanks. It looks like you primarily work alone out of your home garage, or do you have a commercial setup?
Thanks Ralph. I have a shop I build on my residence. It's big enough for what I do and not too big so I'm walking around too much.
Great video, it would be great if you had a video that shows the installation process with the engine plate system on the carby ....
It just bolts on like the carburetor
Good info Pete
Glad it was helpful!
@@PetesGarage I am pulling a Ford 400 and C6 from a 79 Lincoln and after watching your video purchased a load leveler. I have a conventional engine stand but now will fabricate a lower more stable 4 wheel engine dolly
Awesome...good luck
I like the new intro
A couple more slight changes and it'll be perfect
HI, i was looking for info on using an intake manifold mount plate to pick up my iron headed marine small block by it's Edelbrock Air Gap manifold.. Looks like you have been doing that with your example engine.
This is going to save me a bunch of time because the plate will allow me to clear the engine bay with one less very cumbersome step. Thank you!
They are only $15 and I use them all the time
I've been trying to find the lifting points on a 2015 f250 6.2 engine. I purchased one of those universal plates but the holes don't seem to line up over the four bolts. And the four bolts are in the front of the engine.
You probably need a leveler with the 4 chains
Love your videos! I just found out that my aluminum Mercedes 560SL engine is too heavy for it’s own weight & I stripped the bolts in the case while on the stand. Now I can’t find anything to support the engine so I can rebuild it. I purchased a so called universal cradle stand, but it doesn’t work. And once you remove the intake & heads (not sure how) you no longer can lift the engine with a hoist either. It’s an over engineered block of aluminum & I can’t figure out how to do this.
For an aluminum block I use all of the bolt holes to support it, or else I use the motor mounts
@@PetesGarage thank you Pete. I guess I will need to fabricate (have fabricated) a different attachment plate for this build. With Chevy & Ford there are bazillions of products available & many different lifting plates (even lift the side of engine), but nothing for Mercedes. Try to find a single video on CZcams or even a post on the web where a 560SL engine was rebuilt. I can’t find a single one. I’ve seen LS swaps, but no rebuilds. I’ve never rebuilt an engine or even taken an engine out of a car, but it seems I will be the first to document a rebuild on CZcams. My first tip is to support the engine when on a stand.
Yeah, not too many people rebuilding their Mercedes engines
Nice intro.
Thanks my friend
I had a 1972 440 built with lots of aftermarket parts . Had it Dyno ran . So my 70 Roadrunner is taking way longer to build . What is the best way to long term storage the engine ? Maybe 2-3 yrs storage . And do I want to hook a starter to get oil flowing and pistons lubed up ? Thanks
You want to keep it dry and lubricated, so turn it over once a month, pull out the distributor and spin the oil pump while rotating the crank
hey pete, you know that intake manifold bracket is bent? I could see it on the video.
Which bracket?
Hi Pete is it possible to mock an engine up on an engine cradle and run it? Anything I would need to do it?
I don't think it's strong enough. If you beef it up and make sure it doesn't move you may be able to do it.
Had a buddy try it once and when he hit the throttle damn thing flipped on its side, tried to tell him lol He still does it but bow he keeps the engine hoist attached to the top end to support it from throwing it's weight like that. It's risky but I guess sometimes people do it with what they have just know the risk going into it cause there made to hold the weight but once u factor in the torque and momentum of a running engine it changes everything when that same weight gets to be jumping around
Will it also hold if you don’t remove the transmission
Yes
Can I get one a them engine pullin carb brackets for my dual quad manifold...I been trying to move this thing for a long time....
There has to be one available
Yeah, Idk a pn for 1 but I've seen them plenty! It looks just like these but longer with 8 holes for the bolts and 5 holes on top instead of 3
I have to push a 560lb engine up the driveway slope, what do you suggest?
Put wheels on the dolly. I've done it myself, but a friend helps.
Life safer!
About to go pick up my 1st 454
Awesome!
Pulling an engine with buddies and no beer drinking???? WHAT? They would never come over again.
And pizza
How bout a Gen 2 Hemi;. What do you use.
I often make my own lift brackets
Can you test run a engine on this cradle?
You could, but just run only, I'm not sure it would be strong enough for any HP
Isnt it better to seat the torque converter into the transmission itself?
For shipping?
Where do you get your engine cradles at
Summit
Has any one lifted 454 with Edelbrock air gap intake by manifold
Yes, no problem
What if my intake manifold is made of plastic, how am I suppose to lift the engine? My car is 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis
Take the intake off
Which attachment that works for my car engine with a hoist? Do you know where can I find an engine stand specifically for my car engine? Thanks a lot!
Lift brackets, hoists, and engine stands are universal
Hold my beer 🍻
lol....hold my shot of Crown
Can't do on any (van).
2nd!!
Technically I was 1st through 10th, I watched it a few times.
Pete's Garage hey Pete, you mean 1st thru 10th gear, lol
Anyone else noticed the Mach 5 Build.
Never saw it...lol
hey pete can you do a tear down and rebuilding of a 2jz gte engine please
Shinigami Spanto yessss
I feel like JDM isn't his cup of tea...
I'll do it if I get one....I do more American muscle
thanks i'll appreciate it because the V type engines cannot fit in most of the vehicles in my country so we more use inline
Plenty of Nissan and Toyota V8s fit where the RB/JZ will fit. If Pete could, a 1UZ would be more closer up his alley. VH/VK for the Nissan and UZ for the Toyota. For reference, the UZ fits where a 7M will fit. The width of an inline 6 is mainly exhaust and intake manifolds. The beauty of the V6/V8 is that the exhaust can hide under the heads with some clever pipework and the intake manifold is only limited by the height to the bonnet. I'd think an early 90s 1UZ would be more closer to Pete's interests, being non-variable timing and relatively simple. Not as simple as a carb/dizzy setup though.
i worry about the strength of my aluminum intake when lifting my all iron Ford FE motor
I worry about that every time, but I've never had a problem, even with big blocks
@@PetesGarage thanks , yeah I’m looking for casters for my engine cradle today. Great informational video 👍🏼
0:46 It looks like someone forgot to finish the welding out the lift bracket!
That's the way they come
I had a Ford AOD transmission fall on me. It's not fun, TRUST ME.
OUCH! I'm with ya brotha!
Tape off the Intake before you start!!!
Thanks Rob
First
...know what that means...
Pete's Garage I thought I was first
You were, after I watched it 10 times....lol
Pete's Garage oh
You can waste your time stacking all those washers or you could have used 4 oversized nuts! Five minutes explaining how to fasten the lift plate and hook up the hoist! If people need to be told how to lift an engine they have no business being in a garage!
Everyone is at different levels of learning. We all had to start somewhere. Thank you for your comment
