- Mario Party Superstars? Move over! In the years 2000 to 2008, we got a Mario Party game every year, each with tons of modes and mini-games different from the last. And today we'll be talking about my favorite, Mario Party 5 - probably one of the best full game Mario Party experiences out there.

Mario Party DS having actual boss battles for the single player makes it my favorite to this day, the Bowser block fight is so unique I forget that I'm playing a mario party game!

I loved Mario party ds growing up and still love it! I could never beat the piranha plant boss when I was younger because of the button mashing lol
So many fond memories of MPDS
Back then I was stuck in hospital for quite a while and all I had was my DS with Mario Kart and Mario Party. Of course I ended up playing these games with no end.

@@Rediscool9 Older Mario games pre "New Super Mario" were less standardized and got weirder with the characters and designs. An example a lot of people like to point to is the difference between the first two Paper Marios and the more recent ones. Mario games are now more concerned with keeping the "brand" consistent than they use to be. Of course there are exceptions like how Odyssey had a lot of great new ideas and felt really fresh but we haven't seen anything on that level since.

This is unironically my favorite Mario party game. It was the first one I owned when I grew up and I played it so much. There's a certain charm to it that not many games can match

also, fun fact, in the older titles, you can start a 50 turn game, then go into settings and turn off cpu battles and saving, then make yourself cpu-controlled

My biggest issue with MP5, you can’t buy items in the board game mode
Mario Party DS is one that's seldom talked about, but it has a lot of content to boot as well. A (actually good) story mode with unique bosses after each board, trophies to collect, many side-modes, and more.
I know right?
It's probably one of the last good mario party games before all the car stuff was added in the wii version.
Really hope if they end up making a new mario party they take inspiration from older games and bring back some mini games, although some mini games from DS probably can't be brought over.

This was my very first Gamecube game as a kid, and as a result of having only this game, I obliterated every game mode this had to offer and it was great
What I love about Mario party 5 is that it's pure chaos on the boards. The fact that capsule spaces didn't belong to anybody meant that there was uncertainty when landing on pre-placed spots. It also meant that every game felt different because these spots could have been randomly generated. And let's not forget that by far the best "final 5 turns" modifier in this game is the one that makes ALL SPACES have an effect. That shit made the end of the game insane. I still wish that someone could have a hack so that the entire board is covered in spaces from the beginning and play and entire game that way
Dude for a while I was convinced the battle go kart mini game thing in Mario party was a fever dream I had because no one I talked to seem to remember it lol

mario party 5 was my first ever mario party and one of the first games ive ever played Ahh the memories of going over my cousins house and playing/watching them play mario party 5 while not understanding a single thing on what's going on but "mario :D." will never leave me. Thank you for making this video as it truly recaptured those memories in a neat bowser tie.

so impressed by the variety and depth of those random extra pieces they threw into that game, specially that bowser final battle it actually looks legit even better than some main mario game fights, crazy how GC era mario spinoffs were real games like they put real effort into them compared to what we get now

Mario Party 4 and 5 were my childhood Party Games. Seeing it being acknowledged brings back so many memories!

I clicked this not expecting a Mario Party 5 video, but that is exactly what I got, and I absolutely love it.
While I know "objectively" MP5 is not the best; but it was always my personal favorite.
It was both my first MP game, but I also just grew to love many of the maps and minigames. (Also; I was OBSESSED with the Super Duel Mode as a kid. The E-Gadd body/jets/engine with the Mr. Eye laser was absolutely busted.)
Mario Party 5-7 all are in that weird GameCube era that just has that certain vibe to it. I loved 5 growing up! Spent countless hours in Super Duel Mode and grinding out story mode but I loved the party mode too. The orbs all being trap spaces made this game seem more strategic as you fought over the board. I remember the chain chomp music being a banger

I’m so grateful for these videos.
A lot of bundle or party games like this tend to have what seem to be "side modes" that are actually fun and have more depth than what's billed as the "main game". I'd bet many people never with Mario Party 5 never even bothered to see what the other modes even were. Most people overlook them or take a single glance, but if you played them then it feels like you're in on a secret.
(Maybe a hot take, but this is how I feel about amiibo Festival, cash grab aside. The board game is emphasized so much and is rightfully dismissed as the most "mid" possible version of Mario Party, but the mini games, well really Desert Island Escape, are so much more fun and surprisingly complex I wonder how they're even part of the same game as "Happy Points".)
I feel the most exciting thing about these new videos is what kind of crazy off the wall introduction he makes. This is probably my favorite Alax entrance. Lmao.
Also, thanks for bringing me nostalgia to my first ever Gamecube game aside from Zelda Collector’s Edition.

when i was in middle school i had braces for a while and my orthodontist's office had a small game room with (of all GameCube games) Mario Party 5 on one of the stations. i'd play the single player every time i went to get my braces tightened and now i will forever associate this game with the most awkward time of my life

Some of the most fun I’ve had is playing “competitive” Mario party doubles with friends. 4 and 6 are my go to for it and I’ve yet to hear louder screams then during those games

Mario Party 5 is one of my beloved games, played with family, never knew what was gonna happen, played the story mode, it was just great despite what other people say
No matter what one thinks of thus game but it has that trademark QUIRKINESS that we don't see as often anymore. Lol.
Super Duel Mode is the mode of all time. (Still sad you can't unlock Bowser in this mode)
I grew up with Mario party ds and Mario party 8. I still go back to play these games sometimes just because they were really fun and there’s so much to do in them. With the newer Mario party games, I barely played them on my own and really only play them with friends. This may in part be due to the fact that I’ve gotten older and have less free time on my hands, and I get that Mario party is intended as a multiplayer game, but the fact that the older games had that single player content to keep you coming back even when you didn’t have friends to play with is a big part of what made the games special for me. Also, I can’t help but feel (with superstars in particular) that there isn’t really much to do outside of the main party even when playing with friends. I’ve enjoyed several really fun online games with a friend on MPS, and after each game we went and played some minigames to cool down afterward. However, we kinda got bored of the minigame modes quickly. The only ones that were really all that fun in multiplayer were free play and coin battle. Not to mention, only five boards in the game and no other side modes. There just isn’t really anything to keep you coming back to play this game, it feels like Nintendo is just focussed on pumping out games and not really putting the same kind of care into them anymore. Some recent Nintendo games have been absolutely amazing, but I feel like the Mario spin-off series in particular has been suffering lately due to a lack of content and an overall more corporate feel (other than maybe Mario kart 8 Deluxe, that dlc is turning out to be pretty amazing)
That was a wild ride I had no idea, I only ever owned Mario Party 4 so it’s really surprising there was so much more N64 type stuff in 5

I didn’t notice the Super Mario Bros. Overworld theme in Card Party’s music until my fifteenth listen or so. It’s not super noticeable at first, but once I noticed it, I was kicking myself for not hearing it before. It’s actually a really good rendition too.

We were one of the few whom owned ALL of the mario party titles on the gamecube (4-7), including the first two N64 games, and me getting the Mario Party 8 game, ALL made by Hudson Soft, before NGL took it over and destroyed everything that made the series iconic in the first place.
