you can literally take it off at any time by just going into the menu, arin hanson
Holy shit you can?
My life has new meaning
There are three modes for that.
Calling someone "Arin Hanson" is my new favorite insult.
He actually did sound like Arin Hanson throughout the video
Also remember how Arin Hanson then immediately forgot the controller inputs on the WII remote? The remote famous for not having many buttons. Or was that just hin playing the game in general? I honestly can't tell anymore because it really feels like he intentionally plays the games poorly so people can get mad and he can drum up controversy about it just to hype himself up
Ha, you think Bowser's fake out final fights are too much?

They actually changed this in Persona 5 Royal from what I hear, you can now do additional activities after palaces in Jokers room.
I have the game and I can confirm you indeed now have the ability to do some extra stat boosting activities after leaving the meta verse.
There are still some days where Morgana says you should rest but they are far and between and only depend if it's a major story beat.

Bless Up: Alax blesses up, preventing him from messing up, he loses 5 MP but his attack is increased for a few turns.
I actually really like Leitmotif. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it brings a little charm to a small game.
That's probably why I like it so much. If it were widespread, it'd be rather annoying, especially if the game was very long.
@@VivianGoat Oh don't worry, I have other anime to watch.
it is either used like that, or absolutelly and orribly abused; I believe the only game that strikes both a middleground and both extremes with that is sonic adventure: namelly, sonic and gamma stories;
soinc is the long story, he does the most; his theme happens once in a while, when important development are going on (and sonic barelly reacts), and at the end of his story in full
gamma story is short and very emotional, his theme goes off every time something important happens and we hearr the last clsoing round of notes as the camera is panning out. and then it restart in full for the credits less than 6 seconds later.
the main music theme, open your heart it only goes for the intro and for the first phase of the final bossfight (should have inverted it, as a side not)

I mean, to be fair, Dark Pit is more a parody of "dark and edgy clone characters" than an actual straightforward example, and Shadow Mario (despite the name) is about as edgy as Care Bear fanart drawn in Crayola.
And the music repeating in Omega Flowey's boss fight makes sense since, y'know, that's Flowey's theme song. And guess who you're fighting? Flowey.
Yeah, if you have a dark and edgy clone character that serves narrative purpose and has a personality, like Shadow or Dark Pit, I think it's ok.
He said just because it's a trope doesn't mean it's bad, and even of it's a parody of a trope it's literally still the trope, just self aware. It's like if a show points out that its plot or jokes make no sense, pointing it out doesn't make it suddenly better or make sense.
And Omega Flowey has a theme, which is, you guessed it, a leitmotif! It's not necessary bad, but that's what it is.
Also shadow as a purpose and goals separate from Sonic... In SA2 at least

I think BOTW did a good job with Link's silence, it's explained that due to the pressure of being responsible for so many people's lives as a knight, he shut away his emotions to help deal with all the stress. Little hints in the game that you might not even find gives Link's character so much depth, he has a reason to be silent. So my point is, if you are to make a silent protagonist, give them a good reason to be silent.
Nick Clark Yeah, like in Fire Emblem Three Houses, where
*SPOILERS*
The reason why Byleth is silent is because they were basically the result of an experiment where they were used as a vessel to bring the goddess of Fódland, Sothis, back to life. Causing them to lose part of their humanity such as having difficulty expressing their emotions and even having no heartbeat. So it only makes sense that what’s essentially an emotionless blank slate has very little dialogue.
Some of these so-called "silent protagonists" actually are saying something. The weird thing, like with Link from BotW and Byleth, you as the player have to select what they say, even if there's only one choice.
I mean, you can just assume they function as characters within the world and not as mutes. The silent protagonist thing is merely an unfortunate symptom of the video game avatar mechanic, and not necessarily a narrative tool.
After all, turn based Pokemon battles aren’t meant to literally represent how battles work in universe.
BOTW also had a weird thing going on where in over half the voiced-cutscene memories, link was borderline motionless. It was as if they left him in as a test model and forgot to remove him in the final render. Zelda and the Champions came off more as talking to themselves.

Video-game tropes are very cool in that they are an interactive art. Tropes for plays, paintings, and other purely observable mediums has been refined over thousands of years. Videogames are extremely new and are still in their infancy in regards to mechanical tropes and still heavily borrow from other mediums. The automated interactivity video-games provide is still being explored mechanically which is what draws me to it. It's a great time to be alive.

Not gonna' lie. Watching this was like watching the cutting room floor of multiple unfinished scraps of episodes
I really think you should go back and play mainline SMT games, such as IV, Strange Journey, or Nocturne. They're all really good
Nocturne (not sure about other SMT games) has a bigger focus on gameplay/battling than story so I'm not sure he'd like it very much since he pretty much hates turn-based RPGs.
@@spacedp I think he should at least play Persona 3 since he enjoyed 4 and 5.
Those are great RPGs but they encapsulate a lot of the things Alax dislikes about RPGs.
@@aldenreed1523 I enjoyed 4 and 5 and couldn't stand 3
There's a very clear difference between the styles of Persona
I really doubt he'll like it. He likes P4 and P5 because of the social link mechanics letting him take a break from the turn based RPG mechanics (which is what he hates) and is also all what those games are
I can definitely see why you would find Xenoblade Chronicles 2 annoying, but honestly, I still think that the series’ battles are dynamic. Especially the first one, with fights such as Zanza and Yaldabaoth being some of the most climactic and epic battles I’ve ever played tbh. Definitely check it out if you haven’t already, and especially if you’ve already tried out Xenoblade 2
He doesn't like RPGs. It'll take more than a good RPG to change that. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, but nothing appeals to everyone.
I didn’t WANT to hate Xenoblade 2 but I did
@@oceanman4843 same, I love the first game to death, it's one of my all time favorites. I was so excited for the second one, I preordered the extra expensive extra special edition. Had the game for 5 months before I even had a Switch. Then I finally played it and hated how it was dripping with weeb bullshit and big anime tiddies. It's like they gave it the Teen Titans Go treatment: threw out everything that made the original great, and instead tried to appeal to the lowest common denominator by filling it with cheery anime waifus.
I still have not beaten it to this day only because I can't stand the story and characters. The combat is needlessly bloated, and every enemy encounter takes a painfully long time because of it, even when just fighting weak random mobs. I really want to love it and still play it every now and then, but the slow fights and the cutscenes where the characters act too "anime" really kills my enjoyment.
Snugglebuns I personally loved Xenoblade 2, but I don’t blame you for not liking it. Xenoblade Chronicles is by far my favourite game, and there are a lot of aspects in which XC2 just kind of betrays that with its overuse of tropes and mechanics that go ultimately unused. I still ended up loving it, but it’s definitely flawed and pails in comparison to the first game

Really, using Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as a example for a too simple and easy game. Yup, you really don't play any Jrpgs beside Persona 5.
He previously said he dislikes RPGs because he's not very patient and finds them boring. P5 has been his first positive experience with the genre.
Personally I agree with Alax on that one Xenoblade Chronicles 2's battle system felt like the game was on autopilot to me
@@colinhinman5405 What chapter did you stop on?
@Vazazell Very funny and cool shitpost, have my upvote!
TLDR: The flow is the problem, not simplicity. XC2's combat is still good but not as good as P5. XC2's combat appears worse than it is since both games before it have a similar system but make it more fun and satisfying.
While I can't speak for Alax, I think the simplicity isn't the issue between XC2 and P5: it's the flow of the combat. Different genre's aside, both games have very simple battle mechanics. XC2 is essentially an ATB (Active Time Battle) just with the cooldowns being on specific moves instead of acting at all. P5 is a turn-based game with classic RPS element combat. The difference lies in how the game utilizes those mechanics to make the battle flow. P5 introduces "Once more!"s where teammates can jump in and do follow-up attacks allowing skillful players to generate a satisfying chain of attacks. It even adds to that by having "Hold up!"s where the battle can instantly be over if the player knows how to get the upper hand. XC2 tries to have flow with the different super move combinations but what really kills XC2's combat is that it was done almost perfectly in the first game. XC had the flow of "Break->Topple->Launch->Slam" which is extremely satisfying to string together, deals the perfect amount of damage, and can other teammates using pop-up commands. This then fed into the chain attack system which is pretty much the same in either game with XC2 making it a bit easier to know how to carry the chain, imo. While XC2 has that loop, it's vestigial in comparison to the super move combos and doesn't allow the player to be in control of that chain due to not being able to use the pop-up commands (not to mention the auto-attacks are leagues worse since you have to choose between a long, slow chain or lots of weak, fast hits and you can't move and hit at the same time). I'd argue it's not a bad combat system with the quick-time event super moves being satisfying in their own right, but it can't compare to P5 and is perceived as worse than it is since both games before it had a similar yet more fun and satisfying system.
This is one of my favourite videos from you ever because of how funny it is, even though i think that some of these tropes serve a necessary purpose in games.
This video was awesome! Love the editing!
