    TW Kustoms...I know the General build was a while ago, but I've got a question for you. We've got an '18 ride command and under hard acceleration, I get a vibration (audible only, you can't feel it). It sound to be coming from under the right side of the box. I tried tightening the under bed heat shield. No luck. Did yours have any moans & groans under hard acceleration ?

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 5 lety

      No not really, but I know the box latch has been a noisy item on all the machines I've had. I would check that first before tearing anything else apart. Mine always squeaked, not really a vibration, and lubing up the latches where they hook to the frame would take care of it. Try that first before you dig into anything else. That might show more on wide open throttle since the frame tweaks a bit under power... good luck! :)

      I have had excellent service out of the machine after the kit. Now keep in mind I don't flog it on a day to day basis, but I do use the power from time to time. I'm sure if you beat the machine hard every day, you would probably run into maintenance issues. I haven't run into any issues that would prevent me from doing this exact mod again. Very happy with my experience with it!

    I'm wanting to Gilomen kit, but still deciding what to get. Your top speed, (looking at the mph gauge) was about 72. I'm getting 65 mph using 93 octane. What are you using on octane in this video, and do you have the clutch kit?

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 4 lety +1

      Premium 92. Using the clutch kit. The speed in this video was with the full cab (less doors) and 28" x 12" wide tires going against the wind. But the machine will run out of gearing at about 78 turning about 8k rpm. Been there a couple times in good conditions. So in a nutshell, the ECM and Cluch kit take the machine to it potential and unless you start modding the engine, I dont really think theres much more to be gained. Take care!

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 4 lety +1

      No AC. But has the heater. The new cab does a lot better job at keeping dust out but it still gets in noticeably. I think a little time in placing some foam seals under the seat would go a long way in cutting it down even more. That where most of it will enter. None of the cabs are air tight, but they didnt to too bad on this model. A little extra prep can go a long way on this Ranger. Ymmv, but it's a pretty good unit. Not perfect of course, but the closest Polaris came at this point... thanks!

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 5 lety

      I've over loaded it at times and pulled loaded wagons way heavier than I should have. It hasn't given me any troubles to date but i also don't thrash it in these situations either. Always low range and easy on throttle. That being said, This machine and the prior 2 Rangers I've had impressed me. They did whatever I threw at them with great results and no big surprises. Like everything else, you mainly hear the bad things that happen since people like to go on the net and complain. With the thousands and thousands of these machines sold, you will hear a few complaints here and there, but the percentage is very low. I think they do a good job for the situations these machines get put into.

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 5 lety

      If you change the clutch operation, you will have to change the ecm parameters to match so it doesn't throw codes. Otherwise the ecm will think the belt is slipping and trigger limp mode. There's a certain tolerance built into the ecm for this so it "may" not trigger the codes. Give Terry a call at Gilomen innovations, he will be able to tell you for sure. :)

    Is the 1000 eps a suitable trail rider? Especially on long flat rail trails?
    Also..wondering when one would start to need work done to it, I’m talking about miles put on the engine.

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 4 lety +1

      Its an excellent trail rider for flat to intermediate trails. If you get into jumps and stuff, then you should be RZR, or General for a 50/50 mix between the Ranger and RZR. I had a General before this and that handled the bumps a little better if you were running fast.
      But as for the engine, if you take care of the air filter and do your oil changes regularly, I haven't seen anyone really diving into the engine for thousands of miles. There are a couple 900s running around me at 6500 and 8000 miles, still running great and they trail ride far more than I do.. The 1000s are a little to new for that king of miles to be seen around here yet, but I don't think there will be any probs that I can see.
      Of course if its flogged day in and day out, that would probably have an ill effect.

    • @Forestwalker111
      @Forestwalker111 Před 4 lety

      TW Kustoms thank you for the info. It’s a 2020 and in the last month it’s had 1000 miles out on it. Averaging around 25mph. And I think it’ll see an average of 750 miles per month. So I was worried it’d get run down faster than we’d want to see. How often do you suggest air filter maintenance? Lots of dust/silt on these rail trails.

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 4 lety +1

      @@Forestwalker111 I've seen guys in excess of 10000 miles on these things so its possible.
      On the air filter in dusty conditions, I would check it monthly at the very least. If it has a prefilter over the element, then wash that. Do not use compressed air to blow out the main filter. Even though that may look like it cleans it, it actually opens the filter media up letting dust in the next time its used. If you want to lightly tap the ends of the filter, not directly on the media, you can shake off the bulk of the dust. Always best to replace the filter, but that can get expensive. If there is no pre filter over your main filter, you could look at getting one that fits. If will help prolong the main filter.

      Yeah the engagement is set pretty aggressive on the factory setting. While this is 'technically' better for less belt slip, it's kinda like "popping" the clutch on manual transmission vehicle if that makes sense. The clunk you hear it the slack in the driveline tightening up under power. This setup engages less aggressively and more progressively. Mine doesn't make the clunk on take off at all. Ymmv. 👍

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 4 lety

      I haven't heard of anyone running into engine issues with the program yet since it is really just taking it to where the General runs at. But that doesn't mean you couldn't run into issues like snapping a drive shaft or similiar. If you're contemplating any mods to your machine, you should accept that there is some inherent warranty risk. They still have to prove the mod caused the issue, but in the case of the engine, IF THE MODDED ECU IS CURRENTLY INSTALLED ;), then they could easily deny warranty on that. Bottom line is, if you're going to run the 100hp setting and thrash the machine constantly, you will have repairs to do along the way. Just use common sense and you'll be fine. I haven't run into any problems so far on mine either, but I'm easier on the throttle in rough or slippery conditions where "shock load" could happen, so that helps a lot im sure.

    Hey man love the videos, really has been helping me alot, one thing I called my performance shop about is hearing about the turf mode gear breaking, the performance shops correction for this is the razors gearing, kind of eliminates the turf mode issue. Reason I'm asking is they told me if I wanted to buy larger tires that was the major issue.

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 5 lety +1

      Larger tires will have more leverage when you have it "locked" mode which can cause the broken carrier. If it's in turf mode and you're not beating on the machine, it would be fine. But to strengthen the rear end a bit, yeah you would ha e to go to a spooled rear end like the RZR. Your lawn will suffer but the is the trade off ;)

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 5 lety +1

      They did a better job on the engine braking this round. Not quite as aggressive but pretty noticable. I hate engine braking myself but I can "live" with this level if nothing come out to eliminate it. The 28" tires help lessen the braking also.
      As for the 20hp, it is very noticeable. With the 3 level switch you can feel the differences. STD and work mode are stock 82hp, when you flip it to perf mode, she comes to life. Just a note, if you're not in perf mode and you flip it on the fly with the throttle engaged, it will not switch power until you let off the throttle once then get back into it. You WILL feel the difference lol. The ECM upgrade is the single biggest upgrade you can do to the machine. And I think the best, but to each, their own...
