      I just got a 2020 highlifter ranger, definitely doing the clutch kit because it doesn't rev high enough, peak power is around 8k rpm and it doesn't get anywhere near 8k. But yeah thanks again for your video, ive done tons of my own work on rangers from exles up to motor and trans but it's always nice to see a video of the new stuff before u dive head first into it lol.

    Make sure you put the washers that go on top of the spider (under the outer black shaft) in the correct order, you were holding them incorrectly in the video. The new service manual says the order is black outer shaft, thick silver Belleville washer with domed side toward outer shaft, then yellow thin washer touching the spider. Torque to 96 ft-lbs.

  • @mountainMAN3225
    @mountainMAN3225 Před 5 lety

    well you could grind the spacer on the inside so it will roll free

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 5 lety

      Yep, thought of that but it gets a bit to thin. Gilomen came out with a shim to keep it from engaging the belt which would work better. Now if they come out with the helix for the secondary, we'd be set!

  • @pat4145
    @pat4145 Před 4 lety

    Gilomen has a clutch video out and he does not take the primary off to change the wieghts and springs is that enough ? just the 6 10mm bolts and then the weights off and on good to go no ? love your vid's keep them up very helpful !!

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 4 lety

      Yep that works fine, but if you gave the bolt and spider cover off, the outer sheave slides right off. Either way is good.👍

    I have the 2016 570 SP with TPI clutch kit currently I have exploded seven belts gone through a wide range of Springs and several different sizes of weights, yes I am an overly aggressive Rider and this new clutch system will make access much easier but more must be posted on options whether you wish to get on it and do a wheelie Orr change it up and go hundred miles an hour so far I've seen nothing posted as for which weights do what which Springs do what? Trying everything at my expense currently trying snowmobile weights

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 5 lety +1

      Springs and weights will go hand in hand to a point. It really is trial and error when you are attempting to change yourself. Best to find the stock spring pressure and stock weights in grams. More primary spring pressure will raise the engagement rpm. Less weight in grams will raise rpm range. Secondary spring will affect how fast shift out occurs. It really is a teeter totter of balance to keep proper belt tension through the whole rpm band. If you are going through belts and alignment is good, it is possible there is not enough belt tension between the clutch for proper grip. And that would affect belt life. Best to check with the clutch kit makers like Dirty Dog for example. Dale might be able to set you on the right track and he has adjustable weights so you dont have to buy different weights all the time. Wish ya the best on getting it sorted out!

    Polaris has a clutch update I am taking my 2018 in next week having issues with mine creep, whinnying hard to shift not a recall yet but Polaris sent me the update you have to ask for it to be done at dealership

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 4 lety +1

      Haven't seen that myself, but I haven't had those issues either. Those conditions you describe sounds like the belt deflection is too tight or the clutches are out of alignment. they are very sensitive to alignment since the do run the belt pretty tight on them. It'll probably be an adjustment to the secondary if I had to guess. But could be anything. Good luck getting it sorted out!

    Do you think a weight change on my 2019 ranger 900 would eliminate some of the dreaded take off belt slap that almost all rangers do? Wondering if it would help anything that way. Only use mine around the farm, with no speed running. Wondering if diff weights would help.

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 3 lety

      If it engages very harsh, a clutch kit would smooth it out. Most likley, you will need at least a spring and weights in the primary. You could check with Terrry at Gilomen Enterprises. He has the springs and weights that should set up up well. 👍

    So you do not need a clutch puller to get off the 2018 primary clutches?

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 5 lety

      Nope. The outer half will just slide off. You'd need a puller for the inner sheave if you wanted to remove that, but it's not necessary to pull it.

      @coldairbuick Před 4 lety

      My outer half would not slide off. The fit between the splines on the shaft and the spines on the spider was a little tight. I used a 3-jaw puller to remove it. The spider has 3 cast-in pads on the back to locate the 3-jaw puller perfectly. If anyone else runs into this don't fret, get a puller and it will come off. DO NOT try to pry it off with a crow bar!

    What clutch kit is this?

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1  Před 6 lety

      It's actually just the primary spring and weights from Gillomen Innovations to optimize (raise) the RPM for the ECU upgrade. The ECU upgrade makes the Ranger about 100HP. It really wakes up the machine!

      I had a 2017 Polaris General with Bikeman Performance's programmer and STM Rage 3 Primary and secondary, I would say this machine would now hang with, if not beat, the General. It made the Ranger feel like the General in terms of power for sure.
