What level of training has Elon had so far? Will he be able to match Mark?
@lexfridman Hey Lex, isn't like the 'ole golf with the boss where you know "winning is really losing" game? 😉 the game, like raquetball, is all in good fun until someone loses an eye - then the game becomes find the eye 😂 .. anywhoo who's charity gets the proceeds?
Elon didn't take ANY steps, and he won't...

These Boston Dynamics Videos suprise me everytime and all this with just 1 year of programming. Very impressive
As a Jiujitsu practitioner I'm very happy to see Lex and Mark in a training like that, where they are pulling for each other and also creating situations where they can improve.
They probably one of the highest AIs developed in the world and you can see they still have a lot to learn, it gives me hope.

Lex is clearly an excellent training partner, he provided simple and slow technical resistance and allowed Mark to solve the puzzle of how to escape and where to push his advantages.
Well put
This is what I also noticed.
Agreed; I said earlier "Lex is going super easy on Mark" but Lex is doing an absolutely perfect job for someone at Zuck's experience level in order for Zuck to take something away from the training. There's at least one choke submission Mark gets on Lex where it's clear that Lex literally twisted his head/neck into position so that Mark would get a tap out of it.

@@iansmith8813 I agree. I was struggling to put this into words. You nailed it. I can only go on what my intuition is telling me here, as I am no expert, but I think you are completely right about this.

Good training, good give and take.
Wow he did great! I really liked the way you helped him just instinctively learn what to do by doing solid moves but allowing him in over and over.
Incase anyone is unaware, Lex is allowing Zuckerberg to get into many of these positions basically as a courtesy so that both might learn more from the sparring. He isn't just a magic one year white belt who can go toe to toe with a black belt
yeah he's being super nice. frames with legs but not with hands
yeah that's the general training process. You resist, walk out and counter slowly so the *trainee can practice each skill..

this was great to watch. I would love to see Zuck make content regularly about his journey
Takeaway: Lex is an incredible training partner. I expected no less.
He is truly a humble teacher. Such an optimistic human being...
I was shocked at the level of skill he displayed by how he moved, lead and created openings for mark to notice. Now he missed nearly all of them but the really incredible part was watching Lex create more openings in different ways for him to try and see and take advantage of. That's how I teach martial arts and it's EXTREMELY RARE to see any instructor do that anymore. The last time I saw instructors do that is in china town in the 90s.
Mark should go over this video with Lex and have Lex explain how and when he was creating openings and where he missed them and then train to remove those mistakes. In that regard, this video is great for ANY instructor to show students and see if they can recognize these openings and ask them how they'd take advantage of them. Great stuff.
You KNOW Rogan's gonna do a fight commentary on this
I find this very inspiring. LEX, I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL. You are changing the world and helping people grow in their minds and their hearts. Helping people become aware and informed. Amazing work Fred and Zuck. Would love to see you two on a pod together!
You guys are so awesome!!
I love it when you see two people sparring without trying to show off and are just intently trying to practice and learn while prioritising looking after their sparring partner.
gay
I mean that makes sense, you’re there to practice and injuring your sparring partner means you no longer have a sparring partner.
Run into this issue a lot in push hands too people just wanna use force to win and get sloppy and stiff
That's the point of sparring. You learn a technique, you are familiarizing your body with the technique, make some set-ups, and then test it with your partner, get feedback, adjust, then repeat till mastery.
You guys in the West are so EGOtistical to the point of sparring flies over your heads, that's why most Thai fighters don't spar with you guys cause you intent on winning instead of learning or finnese a technique.
@@machine_learning_engineering sadly it's not uncommon for people, specially at beginner levels, to think sparring is some macho balls to the wall apeshit brainless shuffle, they get carried away and instead of learning anything just flail aimlessly, and damaging their sparring partner is sometimes a result
Great to see Lex engaging Mark in a regular human activity giving Mark a chance to be a regular guy.
It's great for the soul*
that doesn't change the shit Mark brings down on the rest of humanity
He is a pretty regular guy. Maybe awkward from time to time but there is no shortage of regular people like that. I think the media has painted him as not a "regular guy". I worked at the Facebook HQ for about a year and have seen how he acts and he is a pretty normal guy, with the exception that he has created options to be successful.
"See? Mark is just a regular robot."
Not funny.

Can't tell if Lex was going easy on Mark or if he was actually tired. Either way you gotta give credit to Mark's crazy stamina, he was going full-throttle the entire 10 minutes, very impressive.
Lex was rag dolling half the time lol
Well ones a blackbelt. Ones one year in. But regardless zuck was impressive
Full throttle 😂😂
Mark was going 70% at best. Lex was going 30%
As someone built like Mark, I can tell you I guess that's one of the benefits of being the skinny / high metabolism -type. I don't see anything weird in that. I'd wager he could go about 4 times as long before starting to slow down. It's like being a chihuahua or something, I suppose. Lol...

I feel like seeing more of Mark like this, like actual human would help his public image quite a bit.
I'm thinking not so much
I think this is a very salient point. Mark is probably the best example of a hyper intelligent person who has book-smarts to beat the band and the self-confidence to go with those smarts but lacks the ability or perhaps the humility to listen to someone who understands public relations and how one should receive that advice and how best to act upon it. That's why he comes across as a waxy, Huxleyian robotic form of a man whenever he is in the limelight (congressional hearings for example) rather than the alive-and-kicking, strong-backed, unsure but very human Jujitsuka we see in this video. This is a Mark Zuckerburg I can believe and trust and I'm ready to change my mind on the guy. But for now...
You don't suppose...that might actually be the whole point of all this, do you?

Lex is just training the AI
Lex I recently discovered your podcast and it immediately became my favorite. You are a gifted conversationalist and interviewer. You used meta as a descriptor on several occasions(I have literally seen 90% of your shows). I thought I knew what meta meant but you have used it in context that confused me. Would you be able to explain what you mean when using meta, perhaps during an intro? I even looked it up on several different sites and some of the usage makes sense but I may not be the only fan who is confused by this. I chose this video because I practice Tai Chi and have trained some BJJ, in gi, so I find this whole Zuck/Elon cage match to be fascinating and even bizarre, but seeing you train with them both was great. Zuck is the founder and CEO of Meta and it just made sense to ask here. I subscribe to the simulation theory devoutly and two very high profile CEO'S of the two original social media giants after MySpace died participating in a cage match, with some legit beef and a very substantial height and weight difference is just one piece of evidence that the simulation operator(god?) is just totally fucking with us. Sorry this was so lengthy but it was necessary.
I love that it's not a 1x1 in some isolated elite space. It's in the intended space, among peers, as it should be.

My observations:
1- Even though Lex trains in judo and wrestling, knowing Mark doesn't have much practice, he barely uses them. He went easy with foot sweep and takedown.
2- He left himself vulnerable at times and didn't exhibit strong defensive moves.
3- By sharing the video of him having a 50/50 match with a white belt despite being a black belt, Lex demonstrates his humility and lack of ego. Unfortunately, some people may not fully comprehend the situation and criticize his black belt without understanding the context.
I have immense respect for Lex.
Only a person who never trained BJJ could blame Lex for not going all in as a black belt.
Man, it is not obvios that it was training where you have to let opponent do techniques on yourself? If Lex would fight at full strength Mark will tap all the time and will not learn how to atack
idk I train with black belts as a white belt and I enjoy them tapping me a ton, showing me their mastery and my weaknesses. Never seen a black belt go so easy. Maybe cuz you can't bruise a billionaire's ego? But what's the point in that then? How much does Mark get out of the sparring if he can't work on, say, an actual escape from mount
I can't wait the match
I've just had a dream and in this dream I was a guest on Lex podcast. I did not have much to say and I felt I was nowhere as successful or inspiring as most of his guests. But Lex seemed fascinated in my ordinary life and said he was proud of me for overcoming all the obstacles and striving to achieve a better life.
It was kind of weird, but still inspiring and motivating.
if you listen while falling asleep you'll have many more dreams conversing with Lex and his guests!
I'm glad to see Lex allows Mark to get submissions. I know many who refuse to get tapped by "lower" belts, but Lex gives him space and lets it happen to give Mark the feedback for when he's executing techniques well.
I love how at 10:53 Lex puts his hand there, waiting for Mark's hand to reach for the guillotine, and Mark gives Lex his hand

Good, controlled shime-waza workout. I was a danzan-ryu/kodenkan sensei, so I would have liked to see more standup/ippon stuff, but the exercise of the day is the exercise of the day. We used to call this "groveling" work, and it IS where anything that keeps happening ends up happening. You did a great job of letting him explore his options while making him flow with the changes. For only a year in, Mark did well with his mental flexibility, and he will learn more economy of motion over time as he matures in the art. Thank you for sharing your personal work with us!
The ending of this video was unexpected. Who knew Lex had such strong, raw power. Rest in peace, Mark
They were just going through the motions
Great sparring chemistry. The amount of humility and discipline Lex showed in this sparring match was outstanding. From waiting long enough to pass the guard but at the same time showing how fast is can be done, to letting Mark get into submissions and making him work the submission into place till its viable just shows the skill gap and time Lex has put into the sport.
Agreed, that was the most enjoyable part for me. Knowing that Lex is silently teaching Mark nuances of moves and has the control to make it challenging enough for Mark's ability level without just crushing him but allowing him to practice his own skills. I feel like I even saw Lex quickly grab Mark's right foot and helping him set it into place during a submission attempt at 6:41. Just a pleasure to watch and I don't even train BJJ. I'm sure a beginner and advanced bjj practitioner can see and appreciate way more of the complexities of how Lex is rolling to make it a good experience.
