- This 2000 Porsche 996 Carrera was bought as a track-only car by its current owner, who is slowly converting it back to street use. It has the stock powertrain, but a host of track-ready upgrades in the suspension and chassis department, and represents a fun, fast versatile car for California summers.

I don't get peoples hate towards the 996. It's actually my favorite era. These turbo 996's in deep blue, with those curvy 5-spoke factory rims and the turbo wing with the front splitter look fantastic.

enigmaPL, some ppl don't like it bcz it departs from the air-cooled era, to liquid cooled. Also, they didn't like how it shared headlights with the boxster. I too like it regardless of the haters.
They also hate the headlight design. Plus the 996 had the horrible IMS issue unless you got a turbo or GT3
True. The problem is which 5%? Since no one knows which car is going to be affected you must assume yours is going to grenade so...you pretty much have to take the precaution and an engine out service isn't exactly cheap. If you can do it yourself in the drive way fantastic if not you're looking at several grand in labor alone.

996's are by far the least valuable generation of 911, they are worth more or less the exact same as most S2000s are now. The S2000s are on the way up, they are worth more or less as much as they were brand new now and it's only going up.
Also upgrades (whether legit or not) usually lower the value of a car, but still, I'd say he got a good deal lol.
People may laugh at him now. But in 10 years the S2000 will be the last NA convertible Honda and the 996 will continue to be the ugly 911 no one likes. And to be fair that 996 isn't in mint condition, actually the collect-ability was ruined by being a road car with track upgrades which reversing is actually a good idea.
It's a good deal for both. One guy got a Porsche for an Honda and the other traded an ugly duckling for a future cult classic.

I think you nailed with the comment about it being perfect for clearing your head on a weekend - I work in IT during the week and am behind a desk, it's so nice to either spanner on the (wonderfully analogue) 996, or take it out for a drive and just enjoy the manual driving experience. Love the way it looks too, one of the best looking 911's in my (completely biased) opinion :)

IMO.. It's not that you're asking for handouts. It's that we're asking to give them to you, because you provide valuable content to us - but you don't want us to through any easy means besides ads. Matt, you should drive the 996.2 with the stock 3.6 motor (up from 3.4 in early 996s). It really solves the power problem of the pre 2002 cars. 3 gear would have pulled that hill you went flat out on.
Well, that's a RELATIVE statement which is true. However, with that said, only an idiot or Paul-Walker-wannabee kid would consider the 3.4 "slow" .

Porsche 2ng gear pops out on mine too. Don’t hold it in tho cuz it will grind the gears. Just throw it in and make sure if it comes out your quick about taking it out and putting back in. I thought I was the only one.

I don't even use ad-block(have it disabled). The ads today (at least on YT) are far more reasonable than they were a few years back, and i understand that they are very important for yt content creators.

Matt, i used to run super sports for track usage/street and switched to AD08r's last year. I have been very impressed with them and, in my opinion, they are the best before going to r compounds. Also they are incredibly durable - more so then super sports.

Also I've given up on ABP's built in whitelist options. Despite following several guides I still don't see ads on your channel unless I disable ABP. I take it from all the comments I've read here and elsewhere suggesting the need for supplementary plugins to simply whitelist in ABP properly, that I'm not the only one that's genuinely trying and failing to give CZcamsrs I follow some ad revenue.
I'd recommend a sternly worded letter to ABP.

Trading an S2000 with a 996 straight up, my first question was whether or not the IMS was serviced/ retrofitted.
I love the 996. Probably because it's the only 911 I can afford LOL. Anything older than that or newer than that is going to cause me to refinance my house to own one. So I'll stick with the 9 9 6

Congrats Andrew on getting in to Porsches! The 996 3.4 liter is a great place to enter for the money. This particular year came stock with a double row IMS bearing, which is very robust. It's great that it was already swapped, but this particular year and model don't have too many IMS issues. It's the 2001-2005 models that I would recommend the IMS bearing replacement for sure. Looks like you already have the GT3 front bumper so I can see what look you are going for. Add the GT3 side skirts and paint the tail black and you will have a really great looking car. Definitely do some track days. You will really appreciate and get to know the mannerisms of your 911 more on the track. Car sounded great and looked really light based on the interior delete modifications. Enjoy and drive it like you stole it!

+563ripper or content creators can stop being assholes and having whole page ads, and pop up ads, and misleading ads. I have white listed CZcams, and other sites that don't use bad advertising tactics, but I think in order to browse the internet safely and quickly Adblock is essential

I'd keep the wing yellow but paint the engine lid underneath black/color match. Paint the front lip and mirrors to matching yellow then you'd be set. You could even do front lip AND side skirts yellow.

Matt just nailed the reason that Porsches are a tough sell for me as a cheap fun weekend car. If you get one of these for $20k - $25k or so, if the engine fails, you're in for that much again. You see him talking about how great these cars are, and I'm sure they are, especially when someone just hands you the keys and you don't have to pay for anything. But when it comes down to it, I see what he actually purchased. I agree with Matt on that.
If the engine fails just LS swap it. More power, less weight, dirt cheap (can do a fully built N/A LS-454 for the same price, though), greater reliability/durability, cheaper parts if it DOES need work, AND it's already been done a few times so there's literature on the subject. Shit, you could buy one with an already blown motor and make a project out of it.
You could also do a turbo K-swap or a turbo J-series swap for similar results. If you REALLY wanna get crazy you could look into a ZF 8-speed transmission swap with a turbolamik TCU and virtual clutch pedal for the ultimate transmission. Nobody has turned it into a torsen equipped transaxle yet, but from what I've seen of various variations, not to mention custom machining, it SHOULD be possible to do so.
If you keep the weight balance 60/40 with RWD only, give it a 4-turn steering rack on steering knuckles that provide 50 or 60 degrees of steering angle, and parallel steering or a touch of anti-ackerman you could even make it into a decent all-rounder with the ability to drift extremely well.
What's with the faint line down the center of the windshield? Is that a Porsche thing?
