Fleur-de-Lys: Julie Zenatti (voice: Natasha St.-Pierre)
Song taken from London cast CD
Lyrics:
You ride so high and straight and fair.
You look like you belong there.
So strong and right and four square.
No other man can compare
Or maybe you don't really care.
Just look for pleasure out there.
And always get your share.
Is there a heart in you somewhere?
My heart is pure my heart is rare.
If you are hurt I'll be there.
We'll start again from nowhere.
You'll have my heart if you will swear.
You'll have my heart if you will swear.
That you will hang Esmeralda.
I'm not a little girl now.
I'll show you that I know how.
I'll show you how I can be.
You think that I am so pure.
I tell you don't be so sure.
I can be wild and free.
Your words of love are hard to bear.
Your promises are thin air.
My heart is hard and I don't care.
I'll leave you hanging out there.
Unloose my belt let down my hair.
Come take me if you still dare.
Your love is all I want to wear.
You'll have my heart if you will swear.
You'll have my heart if you will swear.
That you will hang Esmeralda.
You'll have my heart if you will swear.
You'll have my heart if you will swear.
That you will hang Esmeralda.
That you will hang the Zingara. - Hudba
good lord this song is amazing in every language *sigh*.
Hii
French and English are my favorite versions.
Natasha St Pier has the most beautiful voice for this song, and stole the London production
this version comes to ears softly but when song is changed it comes to heart so powerfully. these changes make listeners to be phoebus
I find the lyrics for the French version a little more powerful but the English is still really great =D
Ah non c'est largement mieux en français. Notre Dame de Paris c'est français, et le français c'est plus beau que l'anglais.
Fleur-de-Lys is cruel in the musical, more than in the book I'd say... In the book she's just jealous of the relationship between Phoebus and Esme, but she doesn't AT ALL give him any kind of ultimatum like this. She just wants him to watch Esme's death to make him confess he has been with her.
Natasha St Pier has a beautiful voice !!!
Is there a heart in you somewhere..
She's the most good Fleur-De-Lys and also she is perfect
You think that I am so pure.
I tell you don't be so sure.
LOL!
At first I have to say very well sang! It must be hard to let it sound that soft in English, especially with words like "hang".
She teases in her voice so much oO. But I still prefer the French version. The French singer shows so much more anger, jealousy and hate in his voice. But this version is great also!
This song is awesome! The translation is really good and the voice just... fits with the lyrics. Really nice!
This is an amazing song in both English and French!
Wow I really enjoyed this more than I thought I would because I love the french version, but this is pretty wonderful.
These are the lyrics, for the original English production of the show. I watched it, in London in 2000
YOU ARE A GENIUS. Thank you thank you thank you
I really like it. In some ways better than the French. i still love the French version the best, but this one does not lose the feel due to the translation
This is actually a good dub. Nice lyrics!
I definitely prefer this song being first like in the French version. I like the idea that Fleur always tries to act sweet when everyone's around but when alone she let's her real feelings come out. I don't think the two songs have to connected as I'd imagine Phoebus would come crawling back with a reversed apology whether she asked him to kill Esme or noy
I guess in the day, they had arrange marriages and you weren't allowed to have sex before marriage. I think she was younger and that she had to marry him when she was of age. I guess, Fleur de Lys tries to tell him, that she wants to be in a sexual relationship with him, before they marry, so he won't stray as he did with Esmeralda. My thoughts, on how I'd portrait Fleur de Lys if i got to play her. Pure meaning being a virgin
julie is THE fluer-de-lys to me.
Awesome! I like this version more than the others! You can feel the pain of a woman scorned.
love this song so much!
I think the French version is amazing and nothing can beat it, but this one is definitely great as well.
AH I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!
I've been looking for this song for weeks!
I personally like both the French and English version of this song...brava in either case :)
brilliant
@Animewacher121 I like the way the English and most subsequent versions changed this song. Fleur-de-Lys isn't just morose (which was most of what I got from the French) but she's hardened and a little manipulative. It gives her character so much more growth than she had in the original production.
nice voice!!
even though i still prefer the original version, the english one is not bad at all!! nice work how they can still make the lyrics rime so perfectly!!
Love Natasha !
The french version has so much more venom in the words. In the French she is literally saying "Hang the gypsy bitch!" she wants him to beg for forgivness, where as in this one she is asking Phoebus to love her again and taunting him how easy her love is to obtain.
Ah! I like that. I like the French a little better I think, because I think French is such a beautiful language, but man! I love that translation and she sings it well.
this is probably the only english dubbed song from notre dame de paris that i actually like. the others just tick my off, but this one wasn't so bad.
nice lyrics for the English version :) rhymes, especially :)
I like this version too. I agree, Julie was very good but on the sweet side. With Natasha I believe that she could ask someone to hang another woman to get what she wants.
As for the song itself, at first I was kind of angry this woman was putting herself through this for a cheating guy. Then I started to admire her how she say things like "I'm not a little girl now" "Your promises are thin air, my heart is hard and I don't care. I'll leave you hanging out there." Tough women. Go her!
this is so how im feeling right now...except the hanging part lol
Phoebus'ün kaygısızlığı inanılmaz cidden 🤷🏻♀️
Elif Usta aşık olunca görümüyorsun etrafı
Kesinlikle 👍🏻
je préfère la version française mais la version anglaise est jolie aussi surtout avec la voix de Natasha St Pier
She might sing the French version as well, look for it, seeing as she's French Canadian
@Animewacher121 If she at least sang "La Monture" to Phoebus I could like the French version more, but she sings it to herself, then Phoebus comes in with "Je Reviens Vers Toi" and she just kind of rolls over and accepts him with slight silent contempt. It makes her such a weak character in my eyes and rather than getting a bit of a backbone through the story she remains this bland and complacent girl.
In the 2000 London production, she actually walks around the injured Phoebus and berates him roughly while she sings. Plus Natasha St Pier's more sensual voice, it makes the English version Fleur-de-lys more menacing.
I love Natasha, but imho her interpretation is full of feminine maturity. It is undeniably beautiful, however it is very far of being somehow naïve and innocent - just like Fleur-de-Lys ought to be, and what Julie Zenatti expressed perfectly. Maybe because Julie was way younger than Natasha... Anyway I prefer Julie.
@OceanAnimus u should see Claudia d'Ottavi play Fleur. she's by far the best actress for that role, but i agree that Natasha is the best voice for Fleur
@MidnightDreamer1313 Yes.
Thre English one isn't " Horrible " but not the same as the French one , all the Notre Dame de Paris Songs sound amazing in French ,, but the English one seems to lack alot. ;)
In the italian version of this song, she's very sweet and sensual, but this is better because she's cruel. lol, I love her voice.
Me thinks there's jealousy going on there.
this isnt bad at all!
Imagine if I was there Ill be married to Frollo.
maybe it's because they translated it form french... it reminds me when i was younger and i did this for fun lol but that's sounds really great anyway!!
I agree, Notre Dame de Paris is good in english, and the singers are great too, but I prefer the french singers and the french musical...
@RacbecSkywalker Actually, unloose and loose mean the same thing. Its a weird quirk of the English language. There are several examples of this. Inflammable and flammable also mean the same thing.
I think by "Sweet", they mean her voice just sounds sweet and cute, unlike here(but still very good!)
this one is good!!! but still french is the one
but just watch is veeeeeeery cruel to my mind too
For me she doesn't sound like 14/17 years old girl therefore although she sings very well I prefer French version.
Sheet music? Anyone?
Is there a filmed version of the English version?
No it's the french version but someone add the english song on it
it's interesting that russian translation is absolutely the same almost
The English translation doesn’t hold a candle to the French or Spanish versions.
She has got a beautiful voice...but Fleur De Lys should sound more innocent and sweeter...anyway, really a great voice :)
I really like the translation because there are some bad ones out there... but her voice could use some more training...
La version anglaise n'est pas mal du tout.. cependant; je touve la version française meilleure et de loin!
The english version is nice as well; though; I prefer the french version!
It's good, but not in comparison to the french version. It seems she doesn't even change the temp of singing and this song is a the one where you need to do this.
oops mistake only one part was tha same like russian
i actualy like this version but the french is still better but yeah.
I like her vioce, but for Fluer de Lys, i'm not really sure if her vioce fits
Why?Tina Arena is perfect!
i prefer italian version
Natasha sings in English? Honestly i feel bad for Fleur. She is a loving girl but jealous and a jealous woman is more dangerous than Isis. She is perfect for Esra from "Geçenin kraliçesi", a Turkish TV novel. Because Kartal is Phoebus and Selin is Esmeralda.
It's beautiful!!!And vocie is pure!But Fler should be bad!=))
I like this song in English. Is not very bad. But I don't like Esperalda's voice in English... Fleur-de-Lys is good :)
I just prefer english version of this Fleur's song, cause I don't really like the voice of Julie Zenatti. Natasha fits better with her voice here.
This song just doesn't have the same effect in English...
Ah, that's the problem with the language barrier...
This version is SO great! But judging by the lyrics she doesn't seem AT ALL a 14 years old girl... where does she takes from all this experience and cruelty???
In the book she was 23
so good with English voice! i dont like french
I don't know. I think her voice is good, but doesn't match to Esmeralda....
Fleur de Lys doesn't sound sweet at all! At least I don't find...the way they have her speaking (I guess you need to understand French...) clearly shows her disdain.
