Feast of Fools was popular medieval festival regularly celebrated in Europe until the sixteenth century. Its central idea seems always to have been a brief social revolution, in which power, dignity and impunity is briefly conferred on those in a subordinate position. It was constantly the object of sweeping condemnations of the medieval Church. The Feast of Fools was finally forbidden under the very severest penalties by the Council of Basel in 1431
Gringoire: and Ensemble. The feast of fools, the feast of fools. The feast of fools, the feast of fools. I'll show you how to run, this noble feast of fool. I know we'll have some fun, I'll show you all the rules. The feast of fools, the feast of fools. Pick out the ugliest, amongst the faces here. The worst face is the best, the face that children fear. Of all the ones who try, the one who make us sick. From lips to nose to eye that's who we'll have to pick. The king of fools, the king of fools. That's who we'll have to pick, that's who we'll have to pick The king of fools The Feast Of Fools The feast of fools, the feast of fools. The feast of fools, the feast of fools. The feast of fools, the feast of fools. Those eyes that nose so thick, that tongue that hangs and licks. The face that makes us sick, that's who we'll have to pick. The king of fools, the king of fools. That's who we'll have to pick, that's who we'll have to pick. The king of fools. The ringer of the bells, that hump upon his back. That face right out of hell, Quasimodo we like. It's Esmeralda's name that makes his poor heart tick. He's twisted deaf and lame that's who we'll have to pick The king of fools, the king of fools. That's who we'll have to pick, that's who we'll have to pick. Quasimodo! That's who we'll have to pick, that's who we'll have to pick. The king of fools That's who we'll have to pick, that's who we'll have to pick. Quasimodo! The king of fools!
why does everyone have to hate on english!??!?! It gets annoying watching this vids and see all these negative comments. I'm watching the english one so I CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE SAYING!!! I don't speak french and russian or italian or spanish if i could i wouldn't be watching this and if you don't like it DON'T LISTEN TO IT!!
hey, some people only speak one or two languages and they might not be french. from experience, im only just learning french and this is how i can enjoy this beautiful show for the time being till i learn the show. and it will kinda help me understand the story. so quit hating on all the english versions. sorry us english speaking arent as blessed to have learned all languages that you people are required to learn in school. we arent as lucky. so we try our hardest to learn to understand.
I agree. I'm French but have been looking for an english version for my bf (who only speaks English). This is wonderful! A lot better than I expected honestly.
To my knowledge there were two live video performances recorded, one in France and one in Italy. You can buy or download the majority of the songs in english, and dub them yourself, but as anyone will tell you, they suck. If you download/torrent the video (personally I like the French) you can also download subtitles.
Some things can't translate properly. My experience w/ the French language makes this more enjoyable, so i reccomend you learn. Otherwise, read the subtitles. Queen is God has all of them up with English subtitles. While some English versions r good, ze French ones, are better (i REALLY prefer the French version of this one). Think of it this way: ever listened to Vive le Vent? It's Jingle Bells in French, only it's about the wind of winter. It's awful, and way better in English.
I wish the music by itself (not the singing) was a bit louder. I think Bruno's voice stands out too much in a way that makes it sound like a karaoke version...
Well, I just wanted to watch umm, english version of the musical. I prefer French version as well. Just, interesting to watch the english one too. I can't find it anywhere though...
Bruno's just one of those who don't even have to try to be awesome. As much as this translation hurts, he still brings it.

I've heard Bruno Pelletier singing in english so many times, I know how he vocalizes and I honestly don't think this is him singing.
he says 'that's who we'll have to pick too many times"
thank you for posting all of these in english!!!

Is it really Bruno? It doesn't quite sound like him.
I know better....but it sounds like they're saying 'le' feast of fools. Not when Gringoire's singing...when it's just the chorus

mgralston1993 well said! I speak fluent French but still enjoy the English because it's my own language!

Is it still bruno's voice? I can't tell....

was this like the Roman festival where an idiot played emperor for a day?
Something like that... The one you're talking about gave origins to Carnival celebrations.
The church repurposed the feast of fool to allow the public to voice their grieves with limits and humanize the pope
Can sb give me the lyrics?
The audio engineer who edited his singing did a crappy job, but the singing is spot on.
I wish the music by itself (not the singing) was a bit louder. I think Bruno's voice stands out too much in a way that makes it sound like a karaoke version...
Guys, is anywhere performance of this spectacle in english? I mean video?
It’s been 11 years and yet no
how can i get the English songs, i have found a soundtrack but it does not have all the songs.
add 'ss' in front of 'youtube'
i don`t really liked it`s kinda odd but ok we can know what is the song saying...right??? what`s the problem i don`t get it...
Io preferisco la versione con Matteo Setti. Voce meravigliosa.
Well, I just wanted to watch umm, english version of the musical. I prefer French version as well. Just, interesting to watch the english one too. I can't find it anywhere though...
they should have just did the english stubtitles of the french
it doesn't have as much power behind any of the voices like it did in the french version
I don't like the english lyrics, and bruno's not as cool in english. mais quoi peux je dit? J'aime francais.
Oh no, why is he talking and not singing??? It is not good!!!
