French video with English dubbing.
Gringoire: Bruno Pelletier
Phoebus: Patrick Fiori (voice: Steve Balsamo)
G. Upon the streets of St Denis.
There is a place for you and me.
And when it gets to dark to see, look for the lights, knock on the door.
If you have loving on your mind.
This is the place you have to find.
You will be back time after time, back to the house called Val d'amour.
At Val d'amour they close the door, they give you what you're looking for.
No pretty words no diamond rings, but you can buy most anything.
Just pay the price and love is yours, behind the doors of Val d'amour.
From every corner of the world, they come to take their choice of girls.
The captain's and the sailor boys, they come to find their little joys.
No matter what the tongue they speak, their money talks week after week.
Ladies of love my heart is sore, I am Gringoire the troubadour.
I'm sick with love you have the cure behind the doors at Val d'amour.
Guitars implore come one come all, come take your tour of Val d'amour.
At Val d'amour they play a part, give them your money not your heart.
Beneath the sheets your love will flower, it'll last the night or last an hour.
P. When sick with love I know the cure; I take a trip to Val d'amour.
It takes all night, but be assured they get it right at Val d'amour.
Mesdemoiselles excusez-moi, I'll wait for my Esmeralda.
She read her fate here in my hand; tonight she'll make me understand.
G. Just north of Paris on the square, off Popincourt you'll find us there.
The lowlifes come from everywhere, Oh nothings pure at Val d'amour.
And gentlemen in courtly dress, they fall in drunk and make a mess.
At Val d'amour we close the door, and give you what you're looking for.
No pretty words no diamond rings, but you can buy most anything.
Just pay the price and love is yours, behind the doors of Val d'amour.
Behind the doors of Val d'amour.
Behind the doors of Val d'amour. - Hudba
The only bit I like is, "Give them your money, not your heart."
Though not in the original, it is a concept that works.
It's rather refreshing to find a french person who appreciates the english version. I think that they are all great, it's hard to ruin something so beautiful!
agree
i love when Phoebus says " mesdemoiselles excusez-moi " x)
Oh jeez who cares if it's in French or English? Let's just appreciate the amazing music which beats Les Miserables and Phantom.
agree
Как непривычно слышать на английском, а не на французском🤔Но голос Бруно всегда для меня наслаждение! 🎶😍🎧👏👏👏
Oh please, everyone always has an issue whenever anything is translated into English for the sole reason that it's English. This song especially was translated nicely into English while being able to stay true to the cadence of the song. But obviously the French version is the best.
When this song was sung at the Spore performances, the suggestive silhouttes behind the screens were axed.
this is a rare song! thanks for share!
Thank you!! I hope I can get it!
I got the French version at HMV in London, but I think you can also order it at Amazon:)
So sad to read this comment 12 years later... I miss HMV in London 😥
i love this video and song.
Did I just listen to all 3 minutes and eight seconds of this out loud with my parents, niece and nephews in the room - Even though its a song about the red light district and prostitutes?
I SURE AS HECK DID
I believe it is him. It is his voice.
You can also look at the "more info" up in the right corner. It says explicitly he's the one singing while Steve sings the part of Patrick.
i love Bruno
He's a New Zealander.
From Christchurch south island.
italian is best version!! and french! ;-)
Being French, I guess that the original version would always be special to me. But I quite like the english one as well. Of course, it sounds different still. And I prefer to have a translation less literal that conveys the right meaning. They did a really good job! - Or maybe I just love Bruno Pelletier far too much?^^
Honestly, a mood.
@Longshot593 I agree about the stage being an inaequate mean for such a mount. But if he were a good professional , then he would keep an eye to the kind of soil he walks on carreer.
I also want to now where I can find the CD!!??I've only got the french version!
I saw the show in Moscow and the scene was even more sexual there.
Is there a copy of the whole show in English somewhere . Can you send me a link
French version the best!!!
Generally I like the English versions as much as the French and don't agree with the comments that say the English version are terrible. But I've heard both versions of this song now and I have to admit the French version is streets ahead. It's faster, subtler and all together more suited to the music and lyrics.
Where did you get the English version of this song??? I can't find it anywhere!!
PLEASE!!!!!!! where can i find the full english version of nddp?!
Do you have lyrics for this version? I was searching the net, but with no result...
AlexPazza - That's because Bruno Pelletier is a French Candian, whose mother tongue is French and not English. But a great voice has he, Master Yuda!
Wow. I didn't know it was him. That's really cool. :D
But it does show why his accent isn't really English or American.
I guess the reason so many people think that the English version is terrible, because the language, translation just doesn't sound right with the music.
This song is just much better in french
Do you have this song togewthe with the English video? I mean the London Cast, with Bruno.
The figures' movements leave nothing to the imagination and if I remember correctly, there were moans...
They can really bang out a good tune can't they?
Shame they didn't bother though, isn't it !!
:op
Mayanavo:
Yes, he has a great voice, I agree. :D
On the other hand, I didn't say he was the one who translated it! And he didn't sing the English version either, did he?
I thought the Italian version was the most sexual. Omg...the silhouettes...*twitch*
You should hear the french version. For one thing, the singing is a lot better. For another, the lyrics are a lot dirtier. As for the soil....Bruno got pretty popular singing in this musical. It was a major hit, so I'd say it only did good things for his career.
it 's goog version but I think the french version is the best :)
from me
That's not a British accent...
It's weird, not quite American, but not British either. I think the singer is vaguely trying to sound French.
But you're right, the song sounds so much better in French!
I think this version's much better than the Italian version, but it's not a patch on the French one. The French version rules all.
well it is much diffrent from the ture one
But it is much better than Russian one!
It isn't Bruno Pelletier who sign.
Hi MagicalFenfen, Not a fan of this genre anyway but I do appreciate effort and talent. Anything looks good with a big stagedrop+lights, but I found this mediocre, repetitive & limp. Some lyric lines hit the mark but aren't consistant.Could have been vastly better had they thought about it more.I'm a musician so maybe I'm overly critical.Plenty folk seem to like it so what's the harm. Not for me though. :o)
@Longshot593 Indeed a lot of trashes: the actors, the music and the message.
This translation actually isn't that bad.
Bruno Pelletier, Daniel Lavoire and even Garou sound far worse in English than themselves in French, but Steve Balsamo sound great, even better than Bruno in this performance.
wow... um this rhyming is unexceptable!
Ok, this version just sucks! Bruno, were you high while you were signing the contract with the creators?!! He has such a beautiful voice and he makes such a fool of himself here! Was he choking while he was singing this? I'm not saying this because I think he's a lousy singer, it's the opposite- I adore him! Nothing can't beat the French version, I'm tellin' ya! BTW, thank you for uploading this! :)
Somebody needs to slap the translator. Seriously.
This is VERY bad in terms of subbing/dubbing.
FIRE THE PERSON WHO TRASLATED THIS!
Gosh, the translation of the lyrics is good, but the english voices just don't fit the delicate and sweet musics... O.o too bad
Its not Surreal. Its Unreal. While criticizing sexuality commerce - a fruit of the inherent repression of any civilization- , it becomes sicker than what it criticizes.
I wonder if there's going to be a revival with a revised choreography, staging and set. Sorry, but this pseudo-avante-garde "concert" version just... Does.. NOT... Work!
@miguelmouta Actually, the guy is an excellent singer. But the message and the lewd conduct is inappropriate for a stage.
Acoording me is the french version the best, italian isnt good and english is realy bad.
The English translation was a DISASTER! But the show sounds great in other languages... If only it had a staging and art design to match! Oy... Oh, well, perhaps a revival someday could fix that.
Awful, mindless,ill-conceived lyrics and boring repetitive 'melody'. Could have used some interesting key changes and phrasings to highlight the main riff, but as it is, they didn't. Someone likes it though!
Geordie T this is true, I am a musician, and I would say that this musical has issue with being very strophic.
If you don't like it, why are you here in the first place? No one gives a damn about your opinion.
