2020 was bizarre, but it was real hockey.
Me remembering 2020 Demko: It was special…
Anyone who knocks the winners that year is just sour grapes. I'm sure not one Tampa player cares.
@RRaquello Tampa fans seem to embrace the hatred from the 2 wins calling them fake lol. You're given what you're given. Not like they chose to have covid happen.
@@RRaquelloin any case it was probably even harder tbh. Just having to adapt to the Covid year and all the stuff outside hockey especially constant Covid tests must have been tough.
The 2020 playoffs were a bizzare time, but one we'll look back on... But seeing that shot of Benn on his own in the locker room after Tampa won the Cup still hurts.
Honestly, cant really say Benn deserved that cup though..Guy fell off a cliff and had been trending down for years already and has only recently (since last season) seemingly found his place again with this team.
@@TheScotian82 Yeah you're right, and the Stars were punching above their weight after the WCF, but still... Plus I'm a Stars fan so there's that.
Anyone who says those playoffs were not real can be referred to that picture of Benn after game 6. That shows how real they were
@@ironseguin9838Or look at the 7-game series in the 2nd round between Dallas and Colorado that ended in OT in game 7. You can’t say those teams didn’t play their hearts out.
Might be the best collection of teams we've ever seen in the West qualify for the playoffs.
Minus the Golden Knights.
i think we’re finally starting to see the west become stronger than the east
@@oilersridersbluejaysdon’t worry buddy’s we shat on em tonight :)
Let’s go Stars! My dad died in November - he loved the stars since they started in Minnesota. Let’s win the cup for him.
sorry about your dad but no
Yes
My dad passed in 2019 and the Blues won the cup, it was actually really special. All the best.
I'ma be screaming at my tv during the playoffs like, "DO IT FOR JUSTIN'S DAD!!".
Sorry for your loss hockey brings us all together but the rangers baby
As an Avs fan I’d be livid if the Stars won the cup.
Anything short of embarrassment and disappointment is unacceptable
As an Oilers fan, I also would be livid.
As a Stars fan, I'd be livid if anyone else won the Cup, especially the Avs or Oil.
@@ITYWITFL it’s the hater’s code 🫡
As a Canucks fan we starting another riot 😂
A Stanley Cup for any of the Canadian teams would be amazing.
Too bad it probably won't happen for another 5 or so years at minimum. My guess is Montreal has the best shot at it once they become serious contenders.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028Vancouver is my bet. They need at least one more year to gain playoff experience and make some tweaks, but unlike certain other Canadian teams, they have a star defenseman that actually balances the roster.
@@cptjeff1i mean bouchard and reilly and morrisey r kinda stars
@@WestonNYRdon’t know how much the oilers rely on bouch… he is obviously like our top offensive defenseman but we rely heavily on eckholm and nurse too
Honestly though.
And this seems to be the best chance in minute.
Dallas Stars look terrifying with their depth scoring. 7 players with 20 or more goals. Benn is 2 away from making it 8. That's almost 3 lines of 20 goal scorers.
Tanev has done really good work shoring up the D-line. Feels much more intact than it did prior to the all-star break. Much better neutral zone disruptions, great poke checks, squeezing players to the boards or forcing dump-and-chases and then blocking off the route. It's looking way better.
Goaltending is the scary part. Wedgewood is solid but he's not a starter, lacks rebound control. And Oettinger flip-flops between impressive and questionable. He's looked good lately but who can say when the next flip will be. If either of them can get and stay hot, I think the amount of pressure Dallas can put out offensively will take them deep.
I WANT TO BELIEVE
Yeah I’d like to see Otter maintain his recent form, if he still looks like this during the Oilers and Avs games then the Stars might really be cooking.
Sounds almost identical to the 2022 Blues, prognosis: Out in the second round to the Avs
Benn is now 1 away from 20. Otter now has 2 shutouts in a row. And during the current 8-game (!) win streak, Wedgewood has done what has been needed as needed, and with the back to back this weekend, bet we see him in net Saturday against Chicago and save Otter for Colorado.
The CZcams comment bots suddenly becoming very positive is kind of funny honestly

Another Gotta-Watch from Hockey Guy . . . and thanks for the laughs, Shannon!
I like the Canes chances. That said, our success in the playoffs is tied to our offense not drying up. I think our PP and PK are good enough and with the options we have this year I think we're in a better spot.
Sorry Hurricanes, your '06 cup still puts you WELL behind in line..
Oilers, CANUCKS, JETS, hell even the Panthers still need their cup. Philly hasnt won since the freakin 70's.. Nashville never.
I need not mention the Leafs..
Yea sorry no dice.
@TheScotian82 Trust me, there is room in the trophy case for more, lol.
I have a hard time seeing the offense drying up now. Canes are clear far and away trade deadline winners with the way Guentzel and Kuznetsov are playing for them.
When the Canucks get Demko back it's settled.
As a Rangers fan, there are definitely other fan bases who would NOT be happy with the Rangers winning a cup lmao. I think the Canes would be the most acceptable from the Metro. There aren't as many long held rivalries against the Canes
As a Habs fan, nothing would suit me better than to see a Rangers-vs.-Bruins Eastern Conference final!
As a Rangers fan I’ll take that.
Most likey New York would be my best guess

Dallas or Carolina. Either would make me happy. Pavelski and Burns both have waited 22 years to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup, and either would feel like a San Jose Cup win no matter who won amongst the two teams.

I like the idea of this as the final series. Truly, the best of the East vs the best in the West.
Hertl was in a regular jersey at today's practice and may debut on Friday.
I'm a Vegas fan, and I'm definitely here to see everyone rage. Let's get another Cup this year!
They will win the cup again Vegas is in a league of its own
Vegas Golden Knights... Punking the Canadian Hockey Mafia since 2017.
Someone seems to be forgetting 2021.
I would rather see Vancouver win it myself.
There isnt a chance for Detroit to win the Cup but for fun ADB and Kane go vintage Chicago in the playoffs and Copp channels his Rangers playoff. Lyon and Husso make a killer tandem and Larkin gets the Cup winner
Larkin will win a Conn Smythe someday, that's my prophecy
Lol
I’ve been a Wings fan all my life…that said…this ain’t our year lol. I think they could absolutely upset a team or two if they’re taken lightly, but I don’t see them winning the Cup. Just making the Playoffs this season would be a HUGE success, and the team is only going to get better as the younger players start coming up from GR.
Lyon has been fantastic for Detroit and a big reason they’re in the spot they’re in. Glad to see him doing well.
@@williamsteffey3434 For sure. It would be like when the Habs made to the Finals being carried by Price
Great Vid brother. I would love to see the Rangers win but to be honest I just want exciting playoff hockey.
Would love a future discussion on scoring chances after icing (with tired defensive skaters) vs goalie changes when both teams can make line changes. Would love to know whether the rule change has led to a significant improvement on offense.
Other than my Bruins, I’d be happy to see cup wins by CAR, WPG, NYI, or NAS.
If Vegas wins, it will implode NHL Twitter and CZcams . So I hope they do so I can get my popcorn and watch the chaos happen .

If Vegas pulls off a back to back it'll really shine a spotlight on how important management is and what it means to be a good GM.
I know the slow-rebuild through drafting talent and developing is considered the "right way" to win a cup. But owners are going to start wondering why when what Vegas is doing seems so effective.
Vegas started off with more pieces or “currency” than teams who have to opt to “rebuild.” When Vegas’ good arc ends, I don’t think they will be able to replicate their current run when they are spent, like other teams who have been around long enough to get bad again.
@@LoveandGrace77 There seems to be teams who, at least in the expansion era, remain with large swaths of playoff success. Then there are teams that are continuously falling flat.
I guess in three to four years we'll see how Vegas retools or rebuilds. I think the expansion currency people feel gave them so much leeway was really just shrewd management and weaponizing cap space. If you're literally to trade a vezina goalie, face of the franchise, just for cap space then you're willing to do anything to keep competitive. Don't think alot or franchises have that audacity.
Nhl needs to ban players that are not on the cap hit at the trade deadline . Rules need to be changes to stop teams from cheating the salary cap with long term injury reserve. Without the cheating vegas can't win
@@davehorseman I don't understand how the LTIR is cheating unless you believe Vegas is either A) purposefully injuring or faking injuries for players, both while the NHL is complicit since they investigate each LTIR claim or B) teams should not be able to avoid or compensate for the cap hit that injured players take.
The LTIR functions as intended, it isn't cap circumvention that is beyond any specific team given the scenario. I'm sure Vegas would rather have had their captain than suffer loss streaks and picked up an potential rental/helpful player. Not to mention the other teams over the cap.
@@davehorsemanpls go back and check last year’s Vegas PO Roster… their roster was cap complaint (some games about 1M over or so) …
On paper they were 15M over the cap. However, 6M hasn’t played for them. (Mostly Weber) and Lehner & Patrick were injured another 6M (didn’t play) and 1,5M non roster players. That ends up with roughly 1,5M over the cap the whole active players… if you take out Brossoit or Quick (3rd goalie/injury) they were under the cap for players on the ice… 🤷🏻♂️
Glad you're sober today ;)
The 2020 playoffs were absolutely legit, as a fan of a team that choked HARD during those playoffs.
I once saw an video of the road runner and coyote where the coyote finally caught him. At first the coyote was happy that he had won but then got depressed when he realized it was all over. A big part of his life was done. While I’d be happy to see my leafs win a cup I think I’d be like the coyote catching the roadrunner. Despite the roller coaster of emotions, the past 20+ years of my life has been a blast watching the leafs. Will I even care anymore once they reach the top? It’s all downhill from there
Yah, it's like being a Cubs or Red Sox fan. They were special teams but since winning the WS they're just like any other team.
I donno, when the Avs won the cup in 2022, it was one of the highlights of my life. I had so much fun and I want it again extremely bad. It’s been almost 2 years and I still watch highlights of that season and the playoffs weekly. Hell I even watch highlight of the 01 and 96 cup runs! And after 22 YEARS RAYMOND BOURQUE!
@@tylergruen9948 do you think things would be different if after the cup they were more mediocre-bad?

I never imagine that angle... not a Leafs fan, but if there is a team that leaves me upset that they never won a cup it's the late 90's, earky 2000's Leafs of Pat Quinn and Mats Sundin.
The best team I remember that never won it all.
As my team isn’t a playoff team, from each division, I’d be ok with these teams winning a cup: Vancouver, Winnipeg, Detroit, and Carolina. I’d be ok with a few others, but if I had to pick one from each, this would be it (there was a part of me that wanted to say no one in the Atlantic - haha).
My Panthers will be fine once the playoffs start. #TimeToHunt
As a hawks fan i hope Detroit makes the playoffs! Give my boi Kane another crack at it!!!
My picks from each division are the Oilers, Av’s, Rangers and Panthers. For me the Stanley Cup champions should be one of these four. I think that fans don't mind it when a team which has never won a cup finally gets one. In the first expansion year the cup final was between St. Louis and Montreal. It only went four games but the fans in St. Louis were singing When The Saints Come Marching In and having a great time. I was very happy when they finally won the cup. I hate your team yet I respect your coach. And likely, you hate my team too, not sure how you'll feel about coach (Boston).
One thing we can agree on is seeing a team like the preds or jets winning the cup! Best of luck.
In the East, go Rangers, Bruins, and whoever survives among the Flyers, Caps, Islanders and Red Wings.
In the West, go Jets, Oilers, Canucks and Avs!
It's hard to expect much as a Leafs fan. Between their past playoff performances and the fact that they will almost certainly play Florida or Boston in the first round, we can't get our hopes too high. High enough to be disappointed when they lose but not high enough to be surprised.
Leafs only have a shot if the core 4 catch don't turn into ghosts again, but at least they actually have some scoring depth this year so we'll see.

Kyle Connor is ruining the jets. You can actually trace their bad play to the day Kyle came back from injury. Before that they were a team that all played as one unit. Now you add a guy who can score but plays zero defence and everything is off. I know it sounds crazy but I would rather play with axl jonsson Fjällby in the lineup. Dude might not score a lot but he shows the rest of the lineup what hard work looks like.
2014 playoffs were when I first started watching hockey, now 10 years later it’s time for the rangers to complete unfinished business
With 4 Canadian teams in the playoff, is this finally the year a Canadian team wins it? From a MN fan.
2017 we had 5 Edmonton , Calgary , Ottawa , Toronto and Montreal

Who would be happy if “Red Ass Rod” wins a Cup as a coach?
I’m happy with any team winning besides Vegas, Colorado, Dallas, LA, Toronto, and Tampa. But the 5 teams I would absolutely love to see win a cup are Florida, Arizona, Ottawa, Buffalo and Columbus.
I think the cup will be the avs vs the canes
Panthers need this to establish the market for good. Lord knows when we will get another window like this.
Let's go Islanders! Otherwise I can't work up much enthusiasm for any of these teams. Maybe the Canucks. It would be fun if when a Canadian team finally wins the cup, the captain who raises the cup is an American guy (who grew up in Toronto).
The Oilers have been winning a lot more under the new coach and now have a points percentage of .733 (42-14-4). This is higher than any team's overall points percentage.
The Oilers are massively underrated.
They're really not, I think most people can see that team isn't built very well, goalie is mid, D core is kinda bad and they've really only got 1 dangerous line. If they were going against the Kings I'd say sure they'll pocket a round, but atm it's looking like the knights and they should have no trouble knocking out the oil.
@@paulthompson8793 The Knights are not performing as well in the standings. And the Oilers also have nearly twice their goal differential. There is one more game between the Knights and the Oilers before the playoffs start. We will see the potential preview.

But I’m not sure about their chances. I think it really comes down to their effort, and goaltending is something of a question mark. I’m not banking on them winning, but I’m also not going to be the person when the playoff brackets come around that doesn’t pick his team only to have them go all the way.
In 2020/21 The real cup was awarded, so that makes it real hockey.

VGK fan. I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but growing up here, we have always gotten hate. We got hate when the UNLV Runnin' Rebels won the NCAA basketball championship in 1990. The haters called that team "thugs" and the UNLV program "cheaters," when they weren't doing anything different than any other major NCAA athletic programs.
(Shout out to Adin Hill for wearing a Larry Johnson UNLV jersey at the Stanley Cup parade! We understood! )
We've gotten this hate mainly because of the mobster "Sin City" stigma (as if every other city has no crime or other lascivious activities going on!) Vegas got hate just for being awarded an NHL team. Haters hoped the team would be a disaster from the start! We got hatred for making it to the Cup Final in our first season. We got hate for our continued playoff success, and we got MORE hate for winning the Cup. The only time that the VGK haters are happy, is when VGK DOESN'T win, or when we missed the playoffs altogether. We will get hate whether we win or lose. But, there's one thing the haters can't do; THEY CAN'T CHANGE HISTORY. Also a Blues fan, (not expecting them to make it) I like your list except Winnipeg. I’m fine with anything other than Tampa, Colorado, or Vegas.
Definitely NOT the Blues. They have to get in first. And if they even make it, they're wrestling with too man inconsistencies and holes in their game.
Teams i would like to win the Cup that i dont cheer are Edmonton, Dallas/Nashville, Florida or Carolina. Vancouver, Colorado, Winnipeg and NYR are ok. I dont seriously even count STL, DET, WSH, PHI or NYI to be possible.
