- Sky News host Danica De Giorgio says King Frederik looked “quite emotional” after Queen Margrethe II signed the instrument of abdication.
Prince Frederik and his Australian-born wife, Princess Mary, are officially Denmark’s new King and Queen.
King Frederik X and Queen Mary ascended to the throne on Sunday afternoon, local time, after Queen Margrethe II declared her abdication.
“He looked quite emotional there - quite solemn as his mother signed that document,” Ms De Giorgio said.
“And then she stood up, and she left, and he took that main position in the middle of the table and on his right side - of course - was his son.”

I am a Dane and I love Queen Margrethe. She will still be titled Queen and her Majesty, and she will be superintendent for the son when/if needed.
For me it was a very emotional day to see her stepping down and to see King Frederik take over.

I'm from the U.S.A. and have mostly followed the British Monarch. As far as the Denmark Monarch, Queen Margrethe, abdicating the throne was an incredibly selfless, beautiful, honorable act for her Son King Frederick X and for her health.
The Queen Margrethes word as she left the room after she pointed the new king to take the chair at the council of state. Deeply moving : God Save The King.
She has always been my favorite of any monarch.
The Proclamation Ceremony of King Frederick X of Denmark was an event of great emotion, and a great demonstration of support and applause from the Danish people for their new Monarchs, King Frederik X and Queen Mary , Danish people , who , have also well expressed his admiration and gratitude to his previous Monarch , Queen Margaret II.
The huge crowd that attended the various Palaces where the King, Queen , and their Family , appeared was truly impressive, having King and Queen, in all situations , being highly applauded.
The attitude of Queen Margarethe and of Prince Frederik at the time of the transfer of Power was a great demonstration of sensitivity, elegance and respect, and simultaneously an adequate aristocratic posture, between the Mother, Queen Margarethe, and her son , the King to be , Frederik X.
