Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Review | What even IS this bike?

- Join me for a ride on the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 as I try and figure out just what kind of bike it is. Bobber? Retro? Cruiser? Custom? Possibly all of those things at once with Royal Enfield's 'by custom, for custom' promise and one getting some surprising reviews for the way it rides. Time to find out for myself, with fresh memories of having lived with the Interceptor 650 with which it shares its engine. More on that at the links below.

I've been motorcycling since 1978. I live in the EU where a new Suzuki SV650 is 2600 pounds cheaper than the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650. The SV650 is my second Suzuki. My first one was the two stroke three cylinder GT550. It took my girlfriend and me from Denmark to Monaco and back with all our camping gear. After 2000 miles the SV650 has not disappointed either.
It's a raw motorcycle. Akin to what the HD Sportster used to be, or what the Triumph Bobber is pretending to be (at twice the price).
I can see this being VERY popular with the custom crowd.
58 years old. Only been riding for 15 months. I own a classic 350. Bloody love it! I'm awaiting the classic 650 with anticipation. 😀👍🏍
Good work! Never too late, eh?
Nice to see a reviewer giving it a proper ride. So many just toddle along. I just ordered one myself. I live in Cambodia but am from the UK - Nice review 👍
I'm saving to buy this bike, I already did the test drive, I guess I tried everything to take a safe decision, I even crashed it against a car and got to keep the broken front brake lever, maybe I'm gonna turn it into a keychain as a lucky amulet, thankfully that's all I had to pay. All in all, a nice bike which I plan to buy
I think it would look so much better with a small exhaust.
I'm old enough to remember that these were known as motorcycles, not pigeonholed into some bs category.
And then you have to buy all the correct gear for that category. BS, indeed.
Chin mount, my dude, chin mount.
@@mikeandmona6584 Haha, yes, and you’ll be glad to hear it’s been sorted for the next video!
It's a do it all kind of bike..good at pretty much anything other then high speeds at highway(it's a naked) and real sporty riding..
I have done 600 miles on mine, agree pretty much with everything that you said. I'm still not sure what it is, does take some muscling around corners and she is heavy. Riding her after getting off my cb500f (my commuter bike) requires a whole different riding style! Balanced review, thanks.👍
@@jimmyjam8795 Interesting, thanks for sharing your experiences.
As an Indian reviewer put it, its an "Un-bobber bobber" 😂
@@codingwithk5725 Haha, I might have to ‘borrow’ that line!
@@midlifecrisismotorcyclist 😂🙌🏽
@@michaelmurdock4607 yup!
You own an interceptor, your should have compare the ergo and handling. I was looking to purchase an Interceptor. I m 6' tall. Tired the interceptor and liked it before shotgun came up, I ride the super Meteor didn't like it tho
@@kommonman.5011 Sorry, perhaps I wasn’t clear - the Interceptor was a long-term test bike, not one I own. We’re about the same height, tho, and to my mind an Interceptor with the better suspension of the Shotgun would be the best mix!
I booked shotgun, then waited a month. Then the day came for test rides. Riding shotgun was ok but nothing special. Then I jumped on Interceptor, right away I made my mind on Int650 chrome tank and took it home. Also saved couple grands :)
@@ijja123 Nice!
I'm 6foot and I bought shotgun 1 month ago, it's has perfect ergonomics for me
Despite the ugly big radiator you keep calling it an air cooled engine. Why?
What is induction noise?
How do you feel induction under the seat?
Do you wear a tin hat under your helmet?
ok👍
Your chest camera is too low
@@flesz_ It is indeed - have since swapped to chin mount!
Really heavy bike with low power..... not very comfortable, arse pain guaranteed... better fit n finish than other REs ..... intriguing design though
99% of People riding 100 HP+ Bikes are not even close to really handle that Power. Except on a straight road. If you think 50 hp are low power than you are a good rider or a bad one whos thinking he is good.
It is not a really heavy bike at all..yes on paper it is but all that way is down low..it feels no different then most 200kg motorcycles
What even is this grammar??
