Bran mostly lives in the past and doesn't want anymore... It's like he's a metaphor for Game of Thrones fans in general during this season.
Oof
Haha good one
Damn, thats a good one.
Ferrell AF
And the one before that.
The greatest casualty this season is Alt Shift X's faith and love for the show.
I know, it's so sad. Even back in S7, ASX wasn't calling out dumb plot moments directly, because there was always a hope it might still get fixed. But there's just no redeeming quality about some of the S8 scenes.
@@karlzone2 It's just a fucking show it's not sad. He should thank D&D, he has earned a lot of money critiquing and recapping their show. And, he should create his own show if he feels he can do better.
@J Films lmao you shill
J Films shut up
J Films Just because you can’t create something better, doesn’t mean you can’t criticise it. If someone draws a stick man and unironically thinks it is a complete masterpiece, you can criticise them even if you’re not Michelangelo. Because you know what would be better.
"It would be a depressing ending If 7 seasons of Daenerys' rise to power ends with her going crazy and then getting killed."

He was seriously predicting everything in this video. It had me bursting out laughing the entire time 😂. (I think Alt Swift X might have some Targaryen blood.)
"And suddenly Euron 360 no scopes the dragon Rhaegal" lol.
I like Alt Shift X's subtle hints that he also thinks S8 is ridiculous just like the rest of us.
But somehow still keeping it straight.
Discount Jack Sparrow 🤣
The first two arrows hit Rhaegal in the heart. Then the next one hits the neck. And the dragon falls. But then we see like 30 arrows miss Drogon. It makes no sense.
To be fair, season 8 could have been a lot worse. I think the story isn’t too bad but it was just rushed to no end
@@MrMattaiusify To be fair, the fucking holocaust could've been a lot worse.
"Won't be explained, so don't think about it" is basically the tagline for the entire show after this season
It's like, fuck u all, we turned the story into shit and u have to accept it
YEP. Not even an explainer to the NK's rise & reason, or the faceless men
Exactly. What's the point of theorising anymore?
Hopefully Cersei wins, at least. So the show goes back to it's roots, where good guys don't always win.
YES! im sure every single one of us will be completely and utterly disappointed with how it all ends. its gonna be THE LAST JEDI times one million.
I enjoy watching these informational summaries become more and more passive-aggressive.
I don't. I feel bad for him.

The wheel Daenerys wanted to break is represented by the Iron Throne, which is a chair. This makes the Throne a symbolic "wheel" chair. Bran rides a wheelchair.

"It'd be nice if he revealed something useful like Cersei and Euron's military movements, but instead Bran talks about wheelchairs. "
Not so subtle shade. 😂
*"I don't really want anymore. Except for this fly wheelchair"* - Bran
I mean why should he tho? Given all we've learned about the 3er he's supposed to be neutral in this war right.
That makes him a liability. But he's... Family
Its like in a scenario: the one where you have to put out the fire, hypothetically & idiotically your brother doesn't tell you where the extinguisher is, and eventually....eventually it engulfs and destroys your house. I feel that's what bran is this season.
but Bran cant really see the future though? he only has visions on certain things that will happen in the future
@@MisterCovek The Three Eyed Raven _did_ tell Bran *"You will never walk again. But you will be fly".* Or something like that :)

Wow surprised to see you here!!
"This bitch empty. YEET!"
Thats what I said when I first saw the episode. If she landed on Cersei, she would have survived the fall to boot. Albiet with some broken bones lol but then, Euron would have seized the throne and ordered the soldiers to fire on Drogon, who was not too far in the background. They would have sniped him easily, even if he tried to fly away. Then Dany and co would have been easy targets.
I‘m here after watching S8E05 and I just want to say I’m very sorry AltShiftX this series doesn’t deserve your analysis. I’m so sorry.

Why does Jon keep saying he's was "Never a Stark". His mother was literally Lyanna STARK and he was raised in Winterfell with the Starks.
By blood, he's more Stark than Catelyn Stark and just as much Stark blood as his cousins Robb, Bran, Arya, Sansa, and Rickon.
Serious. But I guess it's cause he's technically a targ.
Because d&d know nothing.
Because of the patriarchy.the same way the stark children never refer to themselves as Tullys
Jon was said to look more like Ned than any of his own children.
I swear they forgot Lyanna Stark existed. Which wouldn’t surprise me at this point
It is really sad that Lena Heady has been reduced to looking out through the window for 5 minutes each episode, with an evil smile on her face. I think every character deserves a better last season, but the show runners are just cutting corners at this point to wrap it all up.
The first sentence of your comment made my day. First I had to laugh as how you described the situation. But you are absolutely right. And in episode 5 she is doing the same ...
BTW: I like your "Documentaries" playlist, I've watched almost all these documentaries as well :)
@@ShinyStarfire Hello! I am glad you liked it. I also like "collecting" those videos. The only annoying part is when they get deleted. Sadly, it happens. By the way, since you watched "The Bells", i have a theory for you: Danny is a Manchurian candidate, activated to the sound of bells. Also, episode 3 basically chucked out the "Prince that was promised" prophecy through the window, so poor, sweet, kind and innocent Shereen died for nothing. That made me very angry. But at least now we know that "valonquar" actually translates to "a big pile of rocks".
I wondered why it's triggered by the tolling of bells ...
Talking about the Valonqar prophecy, I found fitting comment under the video with the scene where Cersei and her friend visit the witch (or as in the books, Maggy the Frog):
GRRM: "You see Cersei's whole life is set out by the Valonqar prophecy"
D&D: "Yeah Yeah we got it, now watch her die by dropping a castle on her"
Not the unexpecting and surprising is happening in the last episodes of the series, but everything we never wanted.
oh boy i can’t wait for the episode 5 analysis
The guy probably had an aneurysm when he watched it.
he did say on the live he "doesnt see the point on jumping on the hate train" but his videos ARE getting more and more passive aggressive... so who knows.
It will be such a mess. I hope he will be more ironical because this show doesnt deserve seriousness any more.
Where the fuck is it
E LA yeah I’m waiting too
I love how Alt Shift X gets sassier and sassier as the show gets worse.
Totally 🤣
It's at an all-time high level now yeah, usually he stays pretty neutral but being salty is appropriate now
It's a coping mechanism. D&D pissed away 9 years in 10 seconds. Then a Dragon (a metaphorical nuke) gets knocked out of the sky with a pointy stick and and broken physics.
Honestly, who wouldn't be? This show used to be one of the greats and had tremendous potential. But the writing lately has been so bad that a middle schooler could have done better
2B why is there two simultaneous 2B profiles in comments
“Euron 360 no scopes the dragon Rhaegal”

Such excellent writing, huh?
Or it means she expects to die and people can’t read between the lines.
She is not coming back because she is going to be kings guard to Jon
She's probably going to die and she knows it
Well she did just find out that her favorite sibling isn’t really her brother, so...
The way they are pushing the mad queen Dany narrative so hard and by any means resulting into massive plot holes and completely messing up great characters like Tyrion and Varys...ugh
The foreshadowing has been there for seasons watch the show properly
@Nolan Russell Agree 100% book will be smoother and that ep 5 was out of this world in terms of cinematics i also loved the tension that it created in the lead up to the final episode
I'm actually glad they followed through on Mad Queen Daenerys, especially because they've destroyed the arcs of so many characters this season. It wasn't executed perfectly, but it seems like, no matter what we got, it was going to be shitty.
Alt made a great prediction when he paralleled Dany's potential turn to madness because of rejection by the Northerners (and indeed all Westerosis) with Visery's madness when he was rejected by the Dothraki. Combine that with the losses of two dragons, Ser Jorah, Missandei and most damning of all the spread of the secret of Jon's true heritage (from Jon himself) it seems more and more plausible that this end was inevitable for Dany. The problem is it may have been done to abruptly. The biggest problem with season 8 is that is seems extremely rushed. If they had spread the story out more it would have been more successful.
@@brendan6619 many of us are arguing the execution man ,I dont mind making Danny the mad queen but it was so forced this season. They mad other characters amount to crap to accomplish it,Tyrion is dumb now,Jon is a side character now and Varys all of a sudden betrays Danny,he must have read the script.
I know you get twenty million comments and won't see this, but I wanted to finally take a moment to thank you. This was a stellar video, as per usual; you were able to subtly convey your disappointment/confusion in regard to the way the plot is going, but also deliver a thoughtful, logical, deep analysis that made me rethink both episode 4 *and* episode 5. Your content is phenomenal, both for GoT and Westworld, and I'd be thrilled if you were able to branch out and do more shows - even more lighthearted stuff like the Orville. (I know this takes a huge amount of time, though.) Basically, watching your work has been one of the best parts of CZcams for me, hands down, and I appreciate all of the effort you've put into this endeavor. Thank you!

yeah man its like A+++ when most other people do B/B+ vids.
Nikoloz Kveitaia In some places we call that shade. 😏
"fucking discount jack sparrow" wasn't really subtle, although it was definitely earned.
Yeah...they weren't so subtle this time. It's pretty easy to hear the disappointment in his tone throughout almost the whole thing as well.
I was expecting him to tear these last few episodes apart in his streams, but when I watched them I was slightly surprised at how much he defended the episodes from some of the fans' harsher criticisms. It's refreshing to see someone who isn't nearly as angry about the way Game of Thrones has devolved, but is far more even handed.
Dany asked about those ships in the previous episode and her 'wise counselors " told her not to worry about them. She didn't forget. The writers forgot and hoped we would forget. They need to be fired .
That's the issue when the writers are the creative directors, and the executive producers, and some other stuff as well, they won't fire themselves.
As s8e5 shows, the ships are no threat to a dragon, except if Euron uses homing spears and magically appearing ships.
They need to be Fired and Blooded
@@mrmcawesome9746 they wrote 6 or 7 seaons of the most successful tv show in recent history, I don't think they where ever going to get fired. Even if you say it wasan't them, it was the books being well written they are still the ones associated with the success of the series because the books didn't sold this well without the series.
Also I loved the "brooding in the snow, which is what Jon was always good at". So sad the whole PTWP and Azor Ahai ended up in nothing, at the end...he was just a brooding guy in the snow.
The PTWP didn't ended up being nothing. Yes, Arya killed the Night King but it was Jon who worked to convince everyone of the existence of the White Walkers and let people know how serious the threat was. He is the one who got the dragonglass from Dragonstone and had it mined to fight against the Walkers.
Shakira Daley it doesn’t matter if the victory was quite literally just one stab.
The greatest casualty of this season : a coherent story
The greatest casualty of Game of Thrones: ungrateful toxic viewers. Get out of here. You couldn't do better if your life depended on it.

John's mother is a Stark. can we stop saying he is not one? He is full on half Stark. Jeez
THANK YOU !!!
so why don't we say about the other Starks that they are half Tully?
@@drjulietburke I hear you but being a Tully or not is not a HUGE plot point. Stark is.
@@zab6217 Jons' Targaryen blood is the HUGE plot point at this stage, not his Stark side. His connection with the rest of his family was based on a common upbringing, and remains as is. But when people say he isn't a Stark, they're referring (implicitly) to the family name (and line of succession) - like it or not, it flows paternally. The rest of the Starks aren't called Tully for the same reason - they took their fathers' name. Remember his old name, back when he thought he was a Stark bastard? Jon Snow. He thought he had Ned Starks' blood in him then, yet he still wasn't called a Stark, cos he didn't have a claim to the family name.
Patrilineality matters for your namesake in GOT. It's why bastards are called "snow" and "rivers" instead of their mother's name. because where they are from and the fact that they have no father is more important than their mother's name.
I enjoy the "explained" videos more than the actual season 8 episodes.
The writing has gotten so bad on these episodes that the explained videos are neccessary viewing.
Yikess
@Chris A. Medina lets be real, this show was doomed as soon as we found out that GRRM was no where near releasing his book. It was just a matter of when. This last season proved it.
Fans are in denial because this show was so great...which is because of GRRM. And relying on D&D to practically finish GRRM's work was always going to fall short.
D&D: our CGI budget limits how much we can show of Ghost and the dragons.
Also D&D: a zombie polar bear is absolutely necessary.
Jeb! i get that you’re joking, but HBO actually was willing to give them a bigger budget, enough for 2 full seasons.
This rushed ending is 100% on DnD
Michael Mansouri I wish they had 2 more seasons. They desperately needed more filming time and more episodes
and it makes literally no sense to me why Ghost can't just stay in Winterfell. I totally get the impulse to not want to take him to Dragonstone or Kings Landing, direwolves aren't southern animals, but at least 2 Starks will still be living in Winterfell for the time being, I see no reason he couldn't stay with them (especially when since pretty much every other one has been killed by now)
@@poorwhitepeoplearefailures2396
While I agree that the show runners are accountable for a lot of the errors we are seeing by refusing to have more seasons; which were offered. We have to take into consideration the cast as well, maybe they were tired of their roles and/or had other projects up coming which forced their hand.

"Discount Jack Sparrow..." priceless
(2011) Ned Stark's Last words to Jon: "You ARE a Stark. You may not have my name, but you have my blood"
(2019) Jon to his cousins: "lol im not a stark"
Yeah it's so stupid he just seems to dismiss his maternal bloodline
Why is this even a dilemma?! Jon clearly has the Stark mindset, was raised as one and Arya, Sansa and Bran are very clearly his adoptive sisters. Theon is something of a honorary Stark and he's not even related to them! I thought that the reveal will result in a typical "we are still a family" scene, which is a bit cliche, but appropriate in this case. But that would be in character, and we can't have that.
@@tereziamarkova2822 so true. Great observation about Theon there.
I think it’s because children and the mans wife would normally take their fathers name over the mothers. Just how Robb, Sansa, Arya, reckon are all Starks and not Tully’s
Swedish Wolf - don’t bother explaining king in good faith. Everyone knows he has Stark blood and everyone knows why Jon has never accepted he was a Stark even when his family reassures him. They are just looking for any excuse to be bitter about the show. Bad writing! Everything is bad writing!

Varys tried to poison Daenerys, that was how he tried to put Jon to the Iron throne. Remember beginning of the episode 5 when the little girl from the kitchen comes to Varys?

"The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward"
Funny stuff about Ghost, cause in Book 5 (Dance of Dragons) Jon talks about those closest to him. And to quote the book "Ghost did not count. Ghost was closer than a friend. Ghost was part of him."

@@yooringonghan I know but they should have put the effort. I've seen interviews where they talk about how much they loved the books. Jon and Ghost are super important in all 5.

@@sym2988 i think it was more lazy writing. Because why would he let it go? He is still half stark? He was RAISED by Eddard, infact He acts like him.
It's obviously symbolism, as Alt mentioned here. Jon was letting go of his Stark heritage.
But also probably the fact that HBO & D&D just don't want to spend their budget on a direwolf. And also because they never established just how deep the Stark & their direwolves connection is in the show. The only ones vaguely representing that were Rob and Bran
Can't wait for Ned to wake up and for this to all be a fever dream
The show will definitely end in Ned waking up in a cold sweat while a narration goes "and that's when I knew I should stop dropping acid" and that's when it hits viewers that this was all a massive anti-drug campaign
and then the show fades to black while the Seinfeld tune plays
That's the most perfect ending I can imagine tbh
So he tells Robert he won't be his hand and go to King's Landing?😂👍
I prefer the ending where it's actually an elaborate game of Dungeons & Dragons that got way out of hand.

His death and other factors led to that. Robert didn’t want to rule but the seven kingdoms were peaceful under his rule
@Sander Well, the presupposition is that you have to ACTUALLY rule and not spend time fucking boars and hunting whores.

Hahaha ok you win the comment section.
Very original!
Jon is a Stark. His mother was a Stark. And even if he wasn't he was raised by Starks. If Theon is an honorary Stark then so would Jon. These show writers are something else. This season, though.
Catelyn has considered herself to still be a Tully to some degree though
Look up ‘agnatic(-cognatic) primogeniture’. That’s the way inheritance worked during the Middle Ages and how it also works in the world of Westeros.
There’s a huge difference between openly being a Greyjoy and secretly being a Targaryen, mind.
@@cowboyhank456 guess what, it's because she was born to a Tully father
@@cowboyhank456 of course. Taking a name doesn't mean you entirely change who you are/have been.
Alt Shift X is the only analysis channel I have seen that reviews GoT in such a factual, logical and thought-provoking way. He’s not super opinionated or emotional; he just kind of tells you what happened and what might happen... which must be a considerably difficult feat given the writing of the show is a dead shell of what it used to be.
Just super grateful I’ve had this to look forward to - thank you so much!
Honestly this video is hilarious after watching episode 5.
I love the bitterness in this video, im glad Alt Shift X is as worried as the rest of us about where this story is going.

Jon is not a Stark yet his mom is a STARK. He was raised by STARKS. He lives with the STARKS. Hes the co-founder of STARKbucks. Like wtf. They even consider Theon a Stark and he's some random dude from an island.
Yeah I dont get why he keeps rejecting his family he lived with, particularly when he's in a position to make the rules in which the North legitimised Jon as a King.
Snag Prophet right that does not make senses to me and It’s like he’s dropped his family to be with Dany. I don’t like it at all. Why did he die to be brought back if he’s gonna make the same mistakes. He needs to listen to his family.
Damn so not only do the the show-runners not understand how feudal succession and heirship works but even you 3? 🤥 no wonder they think they can do whatever the fuck they want with the plot😂🤦🏽♂️ Thats now how any of this works....
they might have been raised as the Starks, but they are not Stark, Theon is a Greyjoy and Jon is a Targaryen, Jon is not rejecting his family he just tells them the truth and thats it
@@komesar4482 yes but he's EXACTLY as much Stark as he is Targaryen, half and half. Because if I've understood it right, every other Targaryen for many (if not all) generations was PURE Targaryen, because they kept marrying brother and sister so that both parents were of the same blood line. Whereas Jon now is half of one and half of the other.

Just listen to him get more and more sarcastic as the video goes on it's obvious the show has broken his heart
I guess it's back to waiting for the Winds of Winter...
OMG the whining and complaining is getting old!
I don't understand what people are crying about, this season is just as good, if not better, than any other!
Plus, it's the last season lol I don't know what people expected!
Nobody has given me a specific, valid reason for their complaints.
If you're disappointed, it's because your expectations were unrealistically high.
Way back in Season 3, when Jorah and Ser Barristan tried talking Daenerys out of trading Drogon for the Unsullied, they told her, "A Dragon is worth more than ANY Army, Aegon PROVED that."
REMEMBER?!?
Game of Thrones has NEVER made a choice based on whether it will make the fans happy or "satisfied," that's why the Red Wedding was so shocking.
We were all led to believe that things were finally turning around for Robb Stark, and all that, "character development," everyone's whining about now was erased in one, horrible episode.
Nobody has ever had a, "perfect," end.
Being mad about a specific character's death now only highlights how unrealistic your expectations have become.
Happy fans don't have anything to whine and cry about though lol so, all the negative comments are to be expected from the, "vocal minority."
And, the only, "theory," that has proven true is that EVERYONE'S theories have been proven WRONG hahaha and that makes it ALL worth it to me!
@@twstf8905 I can accept that you like this season's episodes, but they might be better than the previous years? Seriously?!
@@twstf8905 if you are setting up a story in one way, then subvert it all at the last moment just for shocks then you have failed the ending. That's why we're so bitter. There's no satisfaction for the story beats being set up, this season is a dissapointing mess with the best cast and technical mastery on TV.

If it hasn't already been requested, if it isn't a completely impossible task, i think you should make a detailed video summarizing anything not in the series that you think would be important to know before reading the final two book's yet to be released by Martin. For everyone who's already watched the series but doesn't want to read the previous 5 books and who are almost certainly looking for the proper ending we didn't receive in the last two seasons of the HBO series. I'd personally watch a feature length video of this especially if it were done by AltShiftX.
And since there's only two more GOT episodes (clearly your cash crop) for your amazing content i just want to thank you for the amazing work you've done. I've loved your videos since the beginning and I hope to see more content on other great and complicated media in the future. Thanks AltShiftX.

Jon to Theon S7E7 : You're a Greyjoy, and you're a Stark
Jon S8E4 : I've never been a Stark
WTF!
Dumb and Dumber
This always confused me, isn't he 50% Stark like every Stark that didn't come from an incestrous relationship in the Stark House (if that ever happened at all.)?
i think it's just that since rhaegar and lyanna married, he can't be considered a stark, because lyanna becomes a targaryen when marrying rhaegar. just like catelyn stark used to be catelyn tully. by this logic you could call all the stark children also tully children, you know?
@@atlifreysi Great, but Theon's parents aren't even related to the Starks. He was just a forcefully adopted child. So why is it that Jon, who is 1/2 Stark calls Theon one but not himself?
@@atlifreysi Makes sense though it seems, as TheAndice noted, very silly of Jon, saying that "he was never a Stark".

It was the best part of the entire video. Good thing even such a calm and analytic person like ASX loses his composure when he watches these episodes.
ugh the more time passes, the angrier I get at that whole Euron sequence. I mean, I had no doubt whatsoever that Qyburn was going to make sure as many of those giant crossbows were built as possible in all the time since the Loot Train attack (though I'd guessed maybe a dozen around the city, not apparently A HUNDRED in the city and on ships). Even aside from the absurdity that Alt Shift X points out that there's no good reason Dany and Drogon didn't see those AT ALL until it was too late, what pisses me off more goes all the way back to Winterfell. gee, we have someone on our side that can literally see what ever person in Westeros is doing at the present moment, as well as all the past.
Jon: "So Bran, what have Cersei and Euron been up to the last few days?" -- PROBLEM SOLVED
cause see, I'd been wondering if even book readers were sketchy on this whole notion of Bran becoming the 3ER, because would it be too much of the 'deus ex machina' concept, you're making a character with pretty much limitless power. And the key to good writing when you have that is figuring out interesting and plausible ways to still make that character vulnerable somehow. But here, he's simply used when it pertains to the plot strictly as they want to use it, and he's ignored for "reasons" when the plot needs other characters to be hurt in some way.
Discount Jack Sparrow was nice
@@kevinw712 Bran can't see everything everywhere. He can look through the weirwood trees, which there are none in or around King's Landing.
