You are supposed to use a 4T oil, which provides special lubrication of the clutch plates. Reduce friction and increase the longevity of the clutch. I use 20-50 Castrol 4T in the smaller air-cooled bikes, with no oil cooler and filter.

Another tip is to unscrew the dipstick first. The oil will drain much quicker.

The crankcase is vented it only holds one quart of oil and takes about 15 seconds to drain the oil. As a mechanic anytime we drain the radiator down we always pull the radiator cap or it'll pull a vacuum I know what you're talking about. Thanks for watching

I'm a Rotella fan as well. I use it in all my Aircooled engines! Been using it for years in VW aircooled engines.

Oil brand set aside, I do want to mention that because this motorcycle has a wet clutch, meaning the engine oil is in contact with the friction disks, an oil that is JASO MA rated is the correct oil to use. Engine oil for cars and trucks is often not certified in this way and may cause clutch slipping. I wasn't able to verify the JASO MA status of motorcraft. Thoughts?

Always use motorcycle oil in a wet clutch. Never use any automotive oil.

I stick to the Honda GN4 but a lot of ppl use the rotella t4 or t6 15w40. It’s rated for wet clutch so it’s suitable

I have the same bike. My questions is why the diesel oil? I’m in the process of trying to decide on what oil to use. Could you explain your reasoning please

I have always run diesel oil in my pit bikes I usually run Rotella T3 but they don't make that anymore and Walmart was out of t4 the bike specs 10w30 weight oil that's what the diesel oil is. it may not have the proper additives that Honda would like but it's not going to ruin anything not to mention how broke down the oil was after 400 miles I'm willing ti bet the motorcraft oil holds up better and I put it on my cereal

    Is an oil filter needed?

    • @fixitforfun577

It has a screen that you can take out and clean but it does not have an oil filter you do not clean it at every oil change

If you're really interested it does have a filter but it's a centrifugal filter inside behind the clutch cover

Much better if you measure 1 liter of OIL and pour it than POURING diert to the machine... Yes,we have dip stick...and its accurate, but there's a tendency that you will be over pouring. FAR from if you have measured your oil before pouring...
